have had similar troubles, its a right royal pain in the *****. You can splice and add in, but if they ain't given you enough it is mighty annoying, only thing i can suggest after that is try a simpler llacing as it takes less lace if your in a hurry, but they don't look as good. If you want to splice in a piece its relatively easy but you need the peice to splice, i started using vynyl coated stuff cause the stretch has saved the air turning blue more than once, I was given it so got no idea where to get it from though. good luck.

I love the spiralling effect of the black hair strand and the mirroring spiral from the flowers I would be tempted to follow that spiral with the flower to complete a circle around the edge of the stool adding a bit of foliage, I agree masking the face and the red/brown with natural wax finish would make her look awesome. my 2p's worth.

hows about hiding that boo boo with a pendant style flag hanging from the battlements a slightly smaller hole should pop over that stud and stay put..... a second stitch down the tower ensures you don't loose your lid whilst in a dice hurling frenzy!!!!! gnrrrrr

Thanks Clayb, another few years and I will have a go at that, really appreciated how to do eyes, as they are so important to bring life to animals or people. And i haven't got them right yet! hence no posts. I will come back for feathers, fur and modelling. Awesome tutorial!! I think you'd be a great tutor my 2pence worth, now to try and convince you to move to britain....... !

A ha and the leatherwork teeth and claws are in, its weird how it gets you isn't it, i started to make a sheath for a crook knife (for making spoons) which I was constantly slicing myself with, then thought, mmm i got a bit of leather left, i'll make a pouch, then another sheath, then my mums birthday pressie (for that I needed carving tools, and stitching tools and different leather) etc etc etc Next thing i find myself looking at handbags, leather jewellry, photo's, sheaths, scabbards, armour, and....... well there it is, now i just have to find a way to play with leather more and work less and i'll have cracked it. ask for a recommendation from the guys here where the best patterns can be found for your bag, someone will know I am sure, there are some super talented people here.

Monthly Figure carving challenge (March)
Pip replied to ClayB's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
my word yak lady that is awesome. -
Nice saw cover, traditional.... if you have taken out the rivets, and knowing how old tools can be got real sharp, you may have a problem with cutting your beautifully straight stitching (mine still isn't that straight). IF you do get that problem try stitching a thin strip of leather sandwhiched between the two side, it will protect your stitches it works for my knife sheaths, anywho.

thanks for your help guys, it really is driving me nuts, I can't seem to get the tongue to balance /sit straight hmm,Oscarb the second website is the pattern that I'm following, bt reworded a little I am now on tongue number 8, solved the size problem though, thanks. My partner has told me to put it in a bag and come back to it when I am less frustrated.... they are for her for easter, though she doesn't know it yet. oh well.

thanks for your help ferret, It looks like a great pattern idea but not really wot i need for this one thanks anyways. Happy birthday bud...

ok, so i am a little of dramatic but following a pattern fr my first pair of moccasins, I am eityher completely stupid or the *&$^%& pattern is missing a step. I hav e so far, cut out pattern and measured as per instructions stitched on the hard sole a la apache moccasins, with succes and ~I am pleased with stitching..... triumph... yes but short lived.. I have come to fit the tongue and top the pattern does not specify length of top and tongue, says it should be between 6 and 9cm wide etc etc across its widest point and it should be symetrical I have cut four so far and the end product is only fit to bin... No mention of glue, just 9 sets of 3 holes stitch on front through 1st and 3rd in each set pull tight which produces the shape of the toes.... lovely Then the central holes in the sets of three are supposed to be laced overstitch to the top/tongue but then says over stitch (but not where from) and seems to suggest starting at the toes and working back to the tongue, the overstitch turns to saddle stitch for the last bit, I only have one thread!! the whole thing looks like, i made it blindfolded everytime i put it together, its neither balanced nor straight with big gaping holes everwhere. grrrrrr! to make matters worse I took it apart to try again and then thought, i should have taken a photo first......d'oh I am just about ready to bin the whole project, and stick to something less stressful, does anyone have a sane pattern for a pair of Apache moccasin that says about the top/tongue, or can you set me straight. I am calling it a day, and will look for your wisdoms after sleep, Please any help any comments welcome.... within reason. (I have read the pattern twelve times.... so far. I must be missing something, but wot, I just don't know.)

dos cruces
Pip replied to Kevin King's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
And worth every cent, Kevin. Crucifixes aint my thing, but they are beautiful.... keep posting I am already waiting for the next one with baited breath..... Are all your wallets custom jobs or do you do stock too? I really enjoy doing new projects and figuring them out, but repeats tends to leave me a little cold. But I am just playing at it really.... well kinda, how do you get over doing repeats, cause they must all take a lot of work? -
big @$$ elephant
Pip replied to Kevin King's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Hey kevin, another fab project. that is a monster wallet, oh to have the money to fill it..... he he -
reel..ly nice, I am soooo sorry I couldn't resist the pun. I love the richness of the finish, the overall look is great. From a twisted out of shape peice of leather..... The creature on the original labelling looks more like a stonefly/mayfly/caddisfly to me, one has three tails, one two but iam b***ered if i can remember which way round it is.
