I have a question: Why is the interior piece only 8.5" long and the exterior piece 9" long? Shouldn't they both be 9" or at least the same? Wouldn't it make for a cleaner looking job? mlapaglia, Probably not! In todays world of "corporate crooks" I guess I was expecting some confirmation that it is truely HO. What that confirmation should be, I guess I don't even know. I will just use this side and be happy with how nice it is. I do believe it is HO. After all, HO IS what I ordered!

King's X, That's what I was kind of expecting to see on the side I got. Just an indicator that I actually got what I was paying for.

JLS, thanks for your thoughts. I always appreciate your thoughts on things. I just thought I would finally try a side of HO to see what all the glowing remarks are about. You are right in that I have gotten very nice leather from other tanneries but just thought I would give HO a try. I have a wholesale price account with Weaver Leather and actually paid $8.75 a Square foot (before shipping). 24.5 square foot to this side. They only sell TR leather but I can hardly find a bad spot anywhere on this side. I also got some other stuff so I will need to figure out my actual SF cost. I guess I thought there would be an indicator or mark of some sort showing it was "HO". Thanks again for your thoughts!

Just bought my very first piece (side) of Hermann Oak Leather from Weaver Leather. I asked for a nice clean, big side of 7/8oz leather. And I must say, this is one nice side of leather! It is listed as tannery run but I think it must be #1 grade. I couldn't be happier with what they sent me. I'm making a set of saddle bags from it and can't wait to see how it cuts, tools, and dyes. The one question I have is: How do I know it is really Hermann Oak? There is not stamping or identifying marks on it to indicate it is Hermann Oak. It smells just like any Cahin Tannery leather I have bought in the past. I'm not saying I didn't really get what I paid for but the thought crossed my mind of how would I know? Again, I couldn't have asked for a better side of leather for Weaver Leather.

Has anyone tried the new "Quick Change Edger" from Jeremiah Watt that Weaver Leather Sells? I ordered one this week and am very pleased with it. For the price of $8.95 you get a plastic handle and two blades. Both blades were completely sharp and ready to use. They worked great. I'm wondering what kind of different attachments for the handle they will develop in the future? Anyone looking for a good usable edger won't go wrong by using one of these.

Most work I do is custom work. I had a customer want a Bushcraft style knife sheath made for his new knife. I have never made that style before. Should I have charged him for the time spent designing and making the pattern? I had about $17 in materials and charged him $25 labor for a total of $42. Which seems like a reasonable amount for a sheath. With design and making the sheath I have 4 - 5 hours in it. Even at $25 an hour $125 seems to expensive for a sheath. But I believe my time was worth that. I guess I fell into the "I feel guilty for charging so much" catagory that was mentioned above and pull a number out of thin air. I guess I'm afraid of charging too much and not getting the business or experience of making stuff. How much would/should one charge for something like this. What would you all charge???

Okay, thanks for your advice. I am going to try both contact cement and the 3m90 on small samples to see what works best. I don't want to make any visible discolorations when viewing the top side. Thanks again!

Is it ok to use contact cement to glue a tanned descaled rattlesnake skin to veg tanned leather? Or should I use a spray adhesive? Will the contact cement show thru the skin or discolor it? A customer wants me to use it for a guitar strap he wants made. Thanks for and help you can offer. Tom

I like bag kote MUCH better than Tan Kote. I have never been able to figure the Tan Kote out. Again, I love the Bag Kote.

I really like the bag kote. I tried Tan kote and It seem to glossy for me and also it seem to streck really bad. Bag kote is really nice in MHO.

It takes me between 2.5 and 3 hours to hand sew sheep skin to one side of a saddle skirt. It all deepends on what I'm working on. Some things seem to go very quickly and others seem to just take forever.

+1 on the Master Maul that Weaver Leather sells. I have the 24oz and the 3 lb models. I think the quality is great. I plan on getting the 16oz for lighter tooling. Right now I have the "kit" poly mallet from tandy. And while it does the job there is something about the feel of a mual that I like. Tom

I know this is an old thread, but, the stirrups in the picture on the bottom right has an angled face on one side and a straight face on the other. Which side would I mount tapadaro's too? The side with the angle?? Thanks, Tom
