  1. Beers? I was hopeful! Rats. ( I don' know the answer to your question-I would do a mock up-then you would know: My approach anyway)
  2. Agreed! Tandy early '80's- I have one.
  3. No, I haven't had a chance to really dig into the matter. I have had this problem from the beginning. I assumed it was something that I am doing. I need to practice a bit more. My research here on the board has led me to believe that 90% of machine problems are/were operator error...figured I would work at it a while before calling, and or posting. Then this post came up... Thanks for the advice...
  4. Beautiful work! (Makes my stuff look like a 6th graders.)
  5. I'm two weeks in on my 3200 also. I watched Bruce Chaney You Tube videos several times (guitar strap and dog collar). Helped me a lot. I stop the needle at the bottom of the stroke then throw the reverse lever. Hits the last hole just fine _BUT_ I end up with a birds nest in the bobbin, I haven't figured out that part yet. So today, left the thread long, and used harness needles to do the back stitching. Defeats the purpose of reverse IMO. Following this thread hoping to learn more! Thanks!
  6. Happy Anniversary to me next month. 3 years lurking on this board. Minding my own business, goofing around on the internet...I find this "community" of professionals, hobbyist, and hangers on. I was doing fine- Blissfully ignorant. Then, THEN. I start spending hours learning from you folks. Entertaining, enlightening, educational. and INSPIRING! Met a good friend - Raysouth. Have learned from so many. Today I received a big box of leather from +gasp+ Tandy (great sale). For the first time I ordered a whole side of brown cow. A pig split and double shoulder too! I have been purchasing tools off and on for years ( still learning to use them). I have an impressive accumulation, and am blessed with an awesome place to use them, my basement. MHW ( My Hot Wife) got me a sewing machine for Christmas 2015 from Cowboy Bob (CB3200). WTH??? I have a freakin' full blown leather shop in my basement! I used to ^ give ^ my leather work away....I have SOLD (3) guitar straps. I Just cut out (2) rifle slings...from a SIDE of veg tan tooling leather. ????? No more "kits" for me! I have requests for holsters and dog collars. ( I tell everyone these will be available in "David time" - when I get around to it- still work full time). It really is YOUR fault! (and for that) I thank you David James
  7. Old saying in these parts: "Don't wrestle with a pig. You both get muddy, and the pig likes it."
  8. Very Nice Collar- may I ask where you source your roller buckle and D rings? Never thought to reduce the inner liner like you did...nicer finished edge. I really like that idea. Thanks!
  9. Used the my new CB3200 to line the guitar strap that I was working on with some goatskin. Took my time- pleased with my first attempt. Much more to learn...burnish the edges should be the only thing left to do...
  10. SWEEEET! One of the coolest things in the world, finding old(er)leather tools! These storage boxes look really cool too! Congrats!
  11. No Pressure! ( Thanks for the info- great ideas!)
  12. www.sailrite.com they have a video for this type of seat- in the "how to" section...should be exactly what you are looking for
  13. Old School way to do rope- Al Stohlman Figure Carving Finesse 1982 ropes Al Stohlman 1982 1.pdf
  14. Thanks! Pretty cool- I spent HOURS researching, contemplating, considering...Kept coming back to Cowboy Bob and Toledo!...this community had a huge influence, for that I am grateful (Wiz in particular) very excited by the possibilities. I have a guitar strap that I want to line...see what happens after some practice!
  15. MHW (my Hot wife) ordered my Cowboy 3200 for me a couple of weeks ago- said "merry Christmas" (she spoils me) snow/ice storms, holidays seemed like forever..my machine arrived today. Best friend Derrick hauled it from work in his truck and helped me carry the boxes and table to the basement to my shop. Only took and hour to bolt the casters and head to the table, and thread the machine. I watched one of Bob's (Toledo sewing) you tube video's a couple of time to get the thread stand and thread "threaded" correctly. Turned on the machine- started very slowly- running backwards, crap!. Flipped the lever, the other way...sewing! Awesome!
  16. The notes mention fillers and end plugs? What hand gun are you making/ constructing this for? I have this book, I will check it out in the morning! (don't know if I will be able to help- but now I am curious)
  17. Dude! I went into a Tandy leather store in West Palm Beach Fl. in 1981, I wanted to "make a knife sheath". Been "collecting" tools ever since. You have what you need to get started. Ken G. is right- a few of those things will be needed. this site, you tube are fantastic resources. Watch, read and experiment. Order some scrap veg tan leather from Springfield and dive in...you will find that you may already own tools that will get you by for now..(razor knife for example), and later, you will discover/determine what you really need. I always "need" something!
  18. Interesting thread! Cowboy Bob K. is sending/shipping my CB 3200 to me next Monday. Should have it by Wed. I asked him to wait because of the holidays- I was worried about the palette sitting on a dock over Christmas. Also asked that he ship the machine to my work. Hoping the folks at work don't mind- easier to ask forgiveness type of thing! Hopefully, fork truck off the semi and onto the bed of my buddies F150...let you know how it goes.
  19. I took your survey- would be interested in your results. Thanks!
  20. Cool! (nothing sounds better than a shovel with straight pipes!)
  21. Big NEWS! My hot wife told me she was "getting me the leather sewing machine that I want for Christmas". She knew what model number and brand I had settled on....She spoils me! I played telephone tag with Bob last Thursday. We connected, a new CB 3200 will be on the way in about two weeks. COOL!
