  4. I use cereal boxes/cardboard. Also- manila file folders, old or new. Cheap and easy to work with.
  5. Picked up this CS Osborne for $25.00 at Montgomery MO. Old threshers show(steam engines and tractors) from an antique tool vendor...the rawhide mallet was had for $1.00. Found a smaller one for $25.00 at an antique store....some folks don't know what they are. So, my secret is out....rats, probably wont find anymore deals! And yes, it needed sharpening. But both are in GREAT shape and love the patina of a used tool...
  6. I consider myself a hacker - but I have fun. Made these for my Harley. I downloaded the skull off of the internet...apologies to the artist...my interpretation..
  7. Like your bag- like your logo!
  8. GerryR is correct- the VFD is the easiest - cheaper and safer solution....if this were a plumbing project, all you risk is getting wet. Electricity can kill and or cause fires,,,find a qualified electrician to help you with the VFD. Not worth losing your shop/house- your life or someone elses, over.
  9. Springfield Leather sells some nice ones- I decided I couldn't make them for what they charge...just another option.
  10. well there you go, thanks fellas!
  11. I have a couple of rawhide mallets that are at least 25 years old. I picked up my tools again after a long (oh, 10 years or so) break. I have been noticing some small "particles" of rawhide landing on my work while tooling. What is the proper care for old(er) rawhide- or is this just normal?? Thanks! DJ
  12. This topic is worth the price of admission right here! Never thought of reducing/ thinning.... MAKING the colors I WANT instead of trying BUY the color I think I want. Duh! Awesome tips. Thanks to all of you!

  14. Sorry- probably a stupid question- Which book?? I too would like to tackle one of these!
  15. Beautiful work! I really appreciate your style. How/ what did you do with the back side of the strap??

  18. There are some really good videos on u tube....
  19. Middle picture looks like some sort of swivel knives...the rest I am not familiar with. I wouldn't toss any of these until absolutely sure they are of no value. Please share when you find out!
