Latest Shipment Of Leather Machines
silverbullet replied to Singermania's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Wow some of those beautys must have been thru some wonderful years in our history , the flat belt overhead drive systems must have been wonderful to keep in operation . Line shafts like that would be extremely dangerous to work around . When I was younger I worked as a machinist and we had a shop with machines run that way . Man when OSHA came in we had to build all kinds of cages and covers , but what an efficient way to run the shop . The more we go forward the more we should go back. Just my opinion the old ways were better . Wish I could find a junker and rue like you have there any leads on one in the states . Gary -

Nice job I kind like to hand stitch my leather goods too. Even tho I have a. Couple machines nothing like the cowboy or Steve's , but my Adler 104 ? Will do a nice job up to about 3/8 leather mine has a walking foot on it , I think it was made for making the ruffled tops on moccasins . I'm disabled and one hand doesn't work as well as my other but it looks good to me when I'm done I'll never be an artist at leather but I like doing it , I made a fully adjustable sewing vise this summer so I can put it between and under my legs in my hospital bed and swivel and rotate it the vise to any angle while reclined or uprite , if I ever put some pictures on here that would be one I'd put up plus the mauls I made . Gary ,,, again thanks for the sewing hints , you make each step sound easy . I'm greatful thanks

Yupp that's about it they don't work real well with the thread you use. But they were made to sew hardto sew items the reason for the thin cylinder. Anything above say 6 ounce double and it's hit or miss on the stitches hooking up but they are usefull a lot of them out there. I own one plus an Adler 30-1 , the Adler will so a little better with up to 138 top and bottom tho.Gary

I agree may be the new one Bob kovar is selling al rigged up I think it's around $1,500 bucks or so . Don't quote me for price but I read and see that it's a nice machine ck them from the banner on top at Toledo sewing machine company. That said I bet you could get your machine fixed up sounds like parts are still available if you find the right person to do it , Even Bob might be able to help call him or email he's done lots of them . I would buy the leather already dyed then you can seal lots of ways ,I like neetsfoot oil and let it drye then carnauba wax and buff . Resolene , mopnglo cut 50% . No matter what you use after awhile you'll have to reapply about once a year to keep the leather pliable and alive . If not it'll start cracking and sweat bleading into the leather will make it hard also. Read my last answer the resolene and others are different ways of sealing not all at once sorry getting sleepy it's 4am here been up al night again?

Yamata Leather Machine Fy5318
silverbullet replied to summerfabian's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Try to wait for a walking foot machine you'll be much happier , try looking in a couple close states or big cities on Craigslist. It might be worth the drive . -
For help start by watching YouTube vids some very good ones some from tandy on there too. Buy just what you need till you practice awhile get some scraps even from eBay to start, to jump into a Sam Browne set up is not for the beginner but your the owner if you want go for it. You'll need either the dyed leather or a good Latigo tell the supplier what your making they can help . Snaps and setter, a Burnisher and wax , hole punch , you can buy the Sam Browne buckles and attachments for police leather also ck other post on here for pictures and ideas and where to find the items you'll need . Take it one step at a time, don't rush remember Rome wasn't built in a day neither is a Sam Browne . Gary

I like your design have couple questions tho? Why not make the strap mount the same top and bottom to me it looks out of sinc and the middle opening wouldn't that let the arrows seek out when bouncing around , looks kool and the workmanship is great from top to bottom. Gary -

Knife Sheath
silverbullet replied to BryonD's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks good I've been trying to only use the fold over and sew or rivet for the belt carry. My old ones always seem to ripp or get the sheath out of shape. Could be just me but they hang better for me doing this way. Of course it needs more leather or added like a swivel on a holster. Gary -
Ok open the door I'm knocking let's see how bad the jokes really are. Guess I'm old enough over 50 ok .
