  1. I to would like to try the 1 mm and the 1.4 , any color is fine . Willing to pay the shipping too . Thanks for sharing . Gary
  2. We all learn when we are willing . I tried today to use my Adler 104 to sew a sheath for a knife, didn't workout to well when I started at the point end punched the holes and was sewing till it got to wear the thickness increased to about half inch the feed dog and upper foot left the leather cock sideways just enough to run off the edge. Lucky it's for my pleasure but the thing couldn't be sold all my time tooling and gluing . Oh well not enough machine guess I'll be selling some and buying a cowboy or cobra my self.
  3. I have a similar table on an Adler 104 ? On number . But it's what I have I use an old cane to push the peddle on my machine I just used a screw eye to lock it to the edge and use my elbow to push or free hand if not needed to guide the leather. My machine is set up with the reducer and the servo motor. I'm lucky though I have the lift table in my shop and mounted the reducer my self . With out it I too had the same problem tough to control the speed steadily. I have mine set on the lowest speed and I have better control now. Bob Kovar is the man to talk to if he's close to you, Toledo sewing machine co. Top shelf service and he answers questions quickly by email for me. Gary
  4. You can get a pretty good edge using bees wax and a little water. Very little water. I sometimes just lik the edge then add the wax and burnish , I know yuk but it works for me . Gary

  7. I'm a machinist , welder , mechanic , cabinet maker, carpenter, fabricator , inventor , husband , father, and soon to be gran pop. I grew up with a father who was a jack of all trades and most all I learned from him was where there's a will there's a way . I went to vocational school to become a machinist worked in the trade for 5 years , when I became disabled from a malady called trans verse myelitis . Grew up hunting and fishing and roaming the woods loved every minute of it till I couldn't do it anymore even from my wheelchair, took up shooting trap and skeet , stayed with trap and made it to the all American team on the PVA team in 2004 , now with some more health issues . I don't get around as much and the stamina needed to keep shooting and hours of practice I'm just not up to it anymore. I've loved working with leather for at least thirty years I never was and still am not able to give it as much time as it deserves . This site is great there are some real artist on here. Wish my items looked as good but working from a hospital bed I think they turn out pretty good . I like making holsters and scabbards and shellbox holders gona make some for the skeet shooters in the 4 gauges as sets . I don't know of anyone making them or have never seen any . Could be something I can do. Gary I'm a machinist , welder , mechanic , cabinet maker, carpenter, fabricator , inventor , husband , father, and soon to be gran pop. 8. Shoot let's get toxic I use carb cleaner 2+2 by snap is the best it takes everything off . Gary
  9. You should be able to get a pulley with a 5/8" bore and a 2" diameter easily at a hardware store or Lawnmower shop.
  10. How about using the screw on type like the conchoes . You could even make the band to accept the same bolo type slide lock. Show us what you come up with. Gary
  11. How much difference can there be in oil. As long as its pure brand shouldn't make a difference. I'd buy the sheps if it was me.
  12. Very nice think I'm gona make one for myself , change a bit for size and width but you did an excellent job stitching looks so good it looks like machine done.gday and god bless Gary
  13. A machinist could make one in about 2hrs, might not be as pretty as cast but dimensions will make it work? Gary
  14. Are you sure it's cast iron? Didn't think they still made them in iron only cast aluminum . How heavy is it ? Gary
  15. You could polish the roller while the machine is together. Add a motor with a flat belt pulley and set it up to run the machine take strips of emery cloth wrap once around the shaft hold both ends and turn machine on and slowly move back and forth on shaft don't allow the polishing to stay on one area too long. Then use the next higher grit till all scratches are gone then wet polish with light oil this way the shaft will always stay true . When done it will shine like Chrome after you get the finish your happy with wash the shady with a rag wet with either or a carburetor cleaner to get the oil off , waxing will help protect from rust and shouldn't hurt the leather after all we use waxes in finishing , Gary
  16. I'd be willing to bet the bearings are fine, at the speed these would turn it take a lot of abuse and no oil to cause real damage to them or the shafts, if you clean them both gently and lightly grease them when putting back together then oil before use. I would use white lube for reassemble. The grease will protect shafts and bearings sliding together. The oil will mix and thin out with no problems. I do this all the time on engine rebuilds including pistons and rings . On valve shafts I use lead lube a high temp lead base grease. Never had an engine fail me and some were questionable even sloppy guides on ones where no parts available. That splitter looks like a great piece of equipment good luck and enjoy it. Nice to see your taking pictures it may help in rebuilding. If you were near and needed help I'd have offered to help if needed. I'm a machinist by trade with lots of time under my belt in the trades. Gary

  19. Mines the opposite I had to go up I work from a power wheelchair , I use a cane to work the pedals, will chage it to hand controls sometime tho. Maybe a lever type and use my elbows . Shoot I can even make it work by leaning on a lever . But for now the cane works. Gary
