Anything upholstery, Cechaflo is THE maestro. If you can't find what you need here I'd be very surprised. https://www.youtube.com/@Cechaflo/videos

My Adler 69 is almost the same as the Pfaff 335 and as Dikman says they work ok. Mine sews very well, it just needs a little help climbing over big differences in thickness but once it's up there it's fine. As @xnikolaos pointed out you just have to look at the end plate to see if it's a binder or not.

He says he'll unbox one today and get it set up for tomorrow. His Ebay add says specification is the same as the Juki LU 1342. I can find no mention on the Juki site of a Juki LU 1342. Should I be worried about all these anomalies or should I just go and test the thing? What concerns me though is, if the max stitch length is 11mm is it gonna go down to the lightweight bag/wallet range?
-
Update! First it was the same as the Juki 1342. Then the stitch length is 11mm (Juki is 6mm) The front throat plate is the same as the 1341 not the 1342. He's telling me that's a special order and very expensive. He's told me all their servos are 750s but his Ebay add says 1000W. I really don't know where I am. I'm never gonna use an 11mm stitch length and I imagine if the hump jumper was crucial then Juki would've included it in the 1341. So, this new W&G 1342 @ £1899 plus delivery or the used Juki 1341 @ £1450 plus delivery? Thoughts please peeps? These discrepancies may well be simple confusion. I'm gonna go see a couple of my leather shops in London on Monday so it won't hurt to look at the W&G. I've asked him for the full specification of the 1342. He hasn't come back yet. I won't go if I don't get it. The W&G guy also has a 341 which i've pretty much discounted.

Search for an 801 bell skiving machine. That's what most of em are. Preferably one with a vacuum. Most don't have a vacuum but you can rig one up yourself. People will say you don't need one and that's true but once you're used to a machine skiving is much easier and a hell of a lot faster. Lotsa vids on YT. Even if you don't need one now you can keep an eye out. I waited quite a time then found one in a warehouse type place advertised for £600 with vacuum. When I got there it didn't work properly but I'd done my homework and I knew what was wrong with it and knew it wouldn't take much to make it right so I haggled and got it for £300.

Have just come to the end of my latex gloves. Still have some blue nitrile ones but I don't like em. Been awhile since I bought any so thought I'd ask you knowledgable gang what's out there these days. Thanks guys.

Preventing Stuck Glue Lids
toxo replied to Gosut's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I'm definitely taking this advice from Don. And one of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/FastCap-Glu-Bot-Glue-Bottle-Ounces/dp/B0006IUW8G/ref=sr_1_3?crid=HXMWWX95ALS4&keywords=glubot%2Bglue%2Bbottle&qid=1703914765&sprefix=Glupot%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-3&th=1 -
I do admire your loyalty to "0wn brands" Wiz and I daresay what you're saying is the case sometimes but I spoke to the dealer of the Wilcox & Gibbs 1342 today. He's in London (about 30 miles away). He doesn't have one built at the moment but will have one done next week for me to go and try. He does have a 1341 ready made that I can try whilst I'm there. I must say it feels better finding one near enough to drive to and test.
-
Good job! She'll be telling people for years "my dad made it for me". My daughter still uses the first bag I made her every day.
-
Thanks kgg. I think they do it to confuse. After all the reading I was happy to see the Wilcox 1342 was in London because I can go and try it. No better way to buy a machine. I make bags so I don't envisage going much more than 138 unless I want to and there's the rub. Better to have the capability and not need it because you don't know what's around the corner.

So is this a 1341 or a 1342? https://thorsewingmachines.com/index.php/product/thor-gc-1341-cylinder-arm-walking-foot-sewing-machine-for-leather-upholstery-and-heavy-weight-materials/ All the 1341 clones seem to have the H/J. This one is labelled 1342 but doesn't show the narrower throat plate. I think I'll plan a trip to London next week to look at this one. If this one handles v92 and up ok it might be a front runner. I'll visit my leather shops whilst I'm there. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143959379246 Not sure where the Techsew 4800 pro comes.

I'm annoyed now. I replied to this at least once and there's nothing there. I'll try again. Confusion is reigning in my head. It would seem that The Juki LS 1341 is the only one that doesn't have the hump jumper. ALL of the clones have it. And now I've just found a clone in London (driveable) that says it's a 1342 with the H/J. What's the difference between the 1341 and the 1342? And is the H/J significant. I remember someone saying they loved it so much they'd never be without it! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143959379246?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230906152218%26meid%3D8c272c72c6fe45e4a2d7476e2542c26f%26pid%3D101817%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D143959379246%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DPersonalizedTopicsV2WithDynamicSizeRanker&_trksid=p4375194.c101817.m47269&_trkparms=parentrq%3Ab02daaf618c0ab9c8cc20d9efffd5f34|pageci%3A0b783268-a574-11ee-bbe3-be5b84e0e8ed|iid%3A2|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage Looked up this site which suggests that the 1342 has a vertical access hook! Does it? https://jukiindustrial.co.uk/product-category/juki-industrial-sewing-machines/1needle-lockstitch/page/2/

You are of course right Klara. I should have said to be used with a printed pattern or a pricking wheel.
-
I keep looking at this one but it is pre owned. Is there any way to tell if it's Chinese or Japanese? Also the "hump jumper" is missing from the top. Is this significant? Apart from that, the only nit-pick is the top bobbin instead of the side bobbin but I can live with that. Comes with 90 days on the machine and a year on the servo. Come on guys help me get over the hump. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175861103293?hash=item28f2237abd:g:hgMAAOSwJIZiQyzI&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwIPx6eN7hRV0r98Sn3TLxdubyhzLxsobf23NNNUHTXK%2BN4cksh7HKggU0%2BPFyrDVr29fv%2BUYpisMNmYoEkdVoi8NaxHzyt36%2Fgys1eSIBSmmpcKIhByH5GWTjSE%2FyLgrs%2F5T0orpRjH2FXQlneqOUVMPUPWccsx0%2FVoOYh9nX%2BTR3yeITOueYCgwgbCTyk27UHEkpG0s3H7ckHib5LhfAc6vV270rRndK%2FytU29GsI3E%2FuTZCm490OeX8PluqwHAPQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6Sy_ZSVYw

Pigskin is cheap as chips and can come in various thicknesses and colours. @fredkFor some reason I'm wishing you could visit JT Batchelor in London Fred. Probably because I know you would love it. An old Victorian mews warehouse full of dusty aisles and boxes with cobwebs and still every kind of leather/tools/findings etc. The most friendly and helpful staff. Where else could you go with your clicker dies, buy a side of leather, hire their very large clicker press for threepence halfpenny and come away with your projects already cut out? I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Haven't been for awhile. I'll be going soon.
-
The purists insist that hole punches weaken the leather which I suppose has to be true at the Nth degree but for bags and bigger projects I don't think it matters. Certainly doesn't bother me and at beginner level there's a lot more of a learning curve to using chisels instead of punches. For now I would buy a single punch with interchangeable hole sizes. You'll still have to work out what size hole for what thread/needle combination. Later on when you know a bit more you can choose holes or chisels and can buy either 2/4/6/8 in one tool which will make the job go much faster.

I buy from this guy and have never been disappointed. Don't know about shipping and the US but he has a banner ad at the top of this page. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LeatherStampsTools?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=786179157&from_page=listing§ion_id=27085893&page=4#items

That looks good in all departments. Well done.

I have an electric skiver but I know a good one of these is certainly worth having. You could halve the thickness of say a belt with one pull.
-
Now that I've almost made up my mind to keep the Durkopp flatbed I figure I'll try to get the thing working properly. It's not holding firm, so that it moves forward and back when sewing. It still sews and you can adjust the stitch length. I thought maybe a bit more pressure on the presser foot but it's already marking the leather.Thought I'd ask before I go down the rabbit hole in case someone knows the fix. Please. TIA If there's any machine geniuses in the Kent UK area who'll come out I'll gladly pay a reasonable fee.
-
Oh that's great news, not least because I put the old Durkopp 239 flatbed together for selling and blow me it was sewing perfectly. And I have all the weltng feet in all the sizes and and all the spring loaded guides left and right So I think it's gonna be the Adler 69 That's gonna make room for the LS 1341 I do have an error to put right. The reverse on the 239 is pull down but it is high up.
-
I guess there are many types that could be used for backing French seams but are some types better than others? What do you guys use?
-
That's the kind of tooling that I like. Nice.
-
Are the presser feet on the 1341 the same as the singer 111 cos I've got all of them.
