  1. I've found through trowel and error that sometimes water will set the grain...before you add any oil...try wetting your leather--not like your casing, but like your wet forming...let it dry naturally.. then oil...sometimes this works, but not always.
  2. Money sent.
  3. Go Wickett & Craig Web site and email them. That is the easiest way to get in touch with them.
  4. I'm not sure what everyone's problem is about this post...I have enjoyed this topic and find it perfectly fine for this forum...just think of how many of us have found, friends and other people here, with the same likes and dislikes. If you are looking for someone with the same likes...what better place to find and communicate with them, than an area where we gather...be it this forum, a church, pub or place of work etc. In my opinion, Aika, go for it...just keep it PG13....LOL
  5. The are cute...my wife wants a Corgi and I want another Shepard...she is going to love this photo. Thanks for sharing, you have made me smile today.
  6. Fantastic work...any chance of seeing your new puppies...:-)
  7. I have never used edge coat...what I do is apply a light application of dye to the edge...burnish...then I rub beeswax on the burnished edge and the burnish again...repeat with beeswax if necessary, until I get the edge the way I want it.
  8. I use 100% Beeswax...but would like to see other options...always willing to try something new...if it works better.
  9. Where are you located, what are the size of the hides, how thick are the hides, and how much are the hides.
  10. This is why I don't do belts...except for myself and close friends and family...LOL
  11. That is very nice...all hand stitched, very impressive...I did not see one drop of blood from thread cuts..LOL Nice work.
  12. Just received my email on how to log on the new site...wow...what a big improvement over the old site...Very nice.
  13. I had one guy do the same thing, with one of my rifle slings...as soon as he got it he forced the leather around the swivel on his rifle...the leather cracked...he then wanted me to make him another sling in a different color....I gave him his money back and told him that he needed to go else where to have his next sling made. Keep in mind I include a full sheet of instructions with each purchase...that has in it to not force the leather, let it break in on its own. Also in my discription I state that leather is a natural product and may have blemishes and scars that make each item unique.
  14. Wickett & Craig in PA.
  15. Their called Pull The Dot Snaps...they will only open up when pulled in the right direction...Google search will turn up many suppliers..I get mine from Scovill Fasteners
  16. The holsters on the ebay site are all sewn with #277 thread using a CB4500...I only hand sew for customers who request it and/or where I can't get to with my sewing machine...Thanks for your compliment. By the way #277 is a little smaller than 1mm. (I think)
  17. 1MM will work just fine...that is the size I use on all my stuff that is in the 8/10 oz leather weight class, sewn togeather, so I guess that would make it 16/20 oz weight class. A lot of what size of thread has to due with what you are making. If your product has a lot of pulling force on it, I would go up in size accordingly...if it is just a holster, key fob, belt...you will be fine with 1MM thread. Also, if it looks nice to you...use it!!!
  18. Welcome. You sound like the woman of my dreams...where were you 30 years ago...LOL
  19. Many people use one size smaller in the bobbin, without any problems. I personally like the same size thread, top and bottom for my projects.
  20. I have and have been using Twin Eagle thread...Tiger Thread is still better, in my opinion...the Eagle Thread does not have as much wax on it and the ends seam to fray more easily, when trying to thread a needle...but for the price, it is good.
  21. The only thing that I have found to minimize rub off on a finished product is...buff...buff... and buff until no more dye comes off...then seal with an acrylic wax or some other sealer. By the way are you using veg tanned leather without a finish on it???? If not this is most likely your problem...if the leather has a sealer on it the dye can not sink in until this finish is removed...alcohol will take off most finishes, but it will also dry your leather out...thus you will have to condition it. You might also want to try Professional Oil Dye...this works pretty good.
  22. I apply the oil after dyeing.
