For thicker leather, some have used a bandsaw with good results--using a blade without teeth. For thin leather a good pair of leather shears might be your best bet, but might be difficult with arthritis.

so have snap cakes fallen out of fashion?
Troy I replied to Boriqua's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I have one made for a glock 19, that has been around for about a year...never sold many for the glock's...people are more into the kydex for this type of gun--just my 2 cents. I still sell quite a few snapcakes for other makes of pistols. -
The only Sheep Skin that I have used is from Wickett & Craig...the nap is 1+ inches...what I do is trim the wool with, my dog's electric hair trimmer to the length I need... it works ok, but is time consuming if the wool is thick. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum....that is some fantastic work for your first project...it looks like you used at least 3/4 of the side of leather that you got...WOW it has to be heavy, but it will last several life times, I'm sure.

I've had sides come in a week and others 2 or 3 weeks...give them a call and ask how long it will be before they ship your order. I'm sure they are getting a lot of orders this time of year, because they will be shutting down in July for their regular yearly maintenance. Also, be aware that when you are getting your hides split, that is more labor intensive and you were probably but in line with a bunch of other people that are having the same thing done. With all that said..give them a call or email them and ask.

Rifle Butt Stock Cover
Troy I replied to outlawcustomleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
You do great work...if not for the ammo no one would know the difference...if you did not include the ammo loops, I'm sure it would be interchangeable with both rifles and shotguns. -
Rifle Butt Stock Cover
Troy I replied to outlawcustomleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Great work...but if I'm not mistaken...this cover is on a shotgun or at least your one photo shows four 12 gauge slugs in your ammo holder. -
Try Springfield Leather. ..that is where I get mine...sometimes it is really good other times it is ok with some pin holes.

My tips for a "machine" look with Saddle Stitch
Troy I replied to DonorLeather's topic in Sewing Leather
Why are you guys giving the OP a hard time...if he wants to make his saddle stitch look like it is done with a sewing machine...fine...it is his style and what he likes. I personally like my saddle stitch look more traditional or in the classic style...but each to his own. DonorLeather. Thanks for sharing your style of a saddle stitch. -
Got mine yesterday...there is a slight learning curve...but works great--a little easer to use than a HF 1x30 belt sander, but you can get a shaving sharp edge with both. It's nice to have a sharpener that can be easily transported out into the field and run with an inverter hooked to the truck battery. By the way...mine broke last night after sharpening several knives...the tension wheel broke in two places and 1/4 inch piece of plastic flew off...called Cabela's and they are sending out a replacement as soon as I send the broken one back...guess I could have called Work Sharp, and got a replacement part and fixed it myself, but Cabela's has such good customer service and quick shipping, I figured I would get a new unit.

Just ordered a K O Work Sharp yesterday from Cabela's...their on sale...in the past I've used HF 1x30, but wanted something more portable. Hope the Work Sharp does the trick. By the way what angle would you recommend for leather cutting knives, like a Osborn Strap cutter blade.
