I think your on a roll, with machines in some engineering sense, as having a limit to thread thickness. Also rolling towards a decision with thread size, though I would just say generally a size machine below 138 and then another above 138 will be much quicker in your study, whenever you explain the purchase. Example the uppers on a boot will be best fabricated with the smaller thread and with a machine best suited, or a couple different small thread machines. Good luck with your choice, and description for others in how to choose sew machines from your perspective. Floyd

Singer 153W103 stopped walking after adjusting stitch length
brmax replied to KeepItSimple's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
At the moment ( first coffee ) the last vid seems to be the reverse or stitch linkage area and shaft, so will have to figure what these parts might have in common with stitch length. In another step later on the presser feet adjustment, it looks as though the step height/equalization can use adjusting, maybe my morning eyes! back to adjustment, as mentioned what effect now is any stitch re adjustment, any vids there. Excellent work and time spent showing the issue Floyd -
This may require consulting with the project management group and the investment personnel with an emphasis on engineering. But all kidding aside I never worked with an engineer that was hesitant with a figure . ever! This machine parameter is based on the designed goods to be produced, so its make a choice what you want to produce. Any other positive answers would require a location and name to better serve the task Floyd

Flatbed for doing flat work sewing . A cylinder arm style machine no matter the density of sew is best used for curve, bends and circle needs in projects. Within that base info. areas of the project are a bear sometimes as if putting a boot over the cylinder and if desired, sew! as you can imagine its impossible on a flat bed. So another example may be just like a cuff on a sleeve, this example of task relates well with a cylinder arm machine. So in recommending this style and primarily with leather there has been a number of handy tops that can be quick or in short assembled to work as a flat bed. Weather any of this matters, I "try" to key in on projects mentioned to sew or primary interest and assign a thread size to this, as we cannot go from hair thin thread to 346 without adjustment seriously, no matter what anyone says. So considering these tips, also certain machines lend themselves to thread sizes, thus many times a project size as well but in any case certain machines can or "cannot" use or handle a big size thread. A tiny but important part is it really takes a bit bigger machine to pull a heavy thread up and through a chunk of leather successfully. So respectfully one could benefit by selecting a very small group of items and focusing a machine to work in that realm efficiently. good day there Floyd

Plus one on the looksee under the feed dog covers. And it sounds as two different system areas so we or I could use a bit more info to better help. I don't know why but at first read I thought of a loose presser foot mechanism somewhere that moved, but it warrants a good look around I better say. good day Floyd -
I think a side loader can be a good choice for the work, that's involved. Although it would be a great idea for a reducer type pulley setup, just because it sounds like some pretty tough corners and certain extra heavy seam areas sometimes on the sails. I know it can be a benefit in that canvas situation and similar to some leather stacks. So compromising a bit of speed would be worth it for the punch power through the thick stuff, besides your young so working canvas around the table, and not necessarily needing a puller yet! Could just keep an eye out for a ready to stitch machine in this instance, and if choosing used, I'd surely hope to hear so to help in anyway possible. Something for the biz part, It also depends some here if one has time to mess with working on a used machine as most do need adjustment. Sometimes in the year we might have time, usually its not the opportune time, as I recall. fwiw good day Floyd

Its similar as a base setup, though needing the extra foot for presser foot with a controlling rod could be a benefit. so take a look at st-05 is next up with need for the other pedal http://www.cowboysew.com/product912.htm Floyd

Good morning! Singermania As I was looking around in the last years at heavy stitcher machines with standard length cylinder. I did key in on the stands you set the machines up with and they are no doubt the best available! Great work there. With noticing that and appreciating the duty of it clearly, I wanted to ask Neel about this option and as usual quick response received respectfully they do have that particular option stand available here in the states if wanted. I thought this was a great time to add the HD stand you show in past photos on the site here is a great idea and well implemented! Floyd

There are so many machine brands used, purchased and sold around here many as this are certainly capable. With that this here has casting like some others and I'm confident they share similar operations and so are clones of something else really. In that I cannot say anything of specs that they might have, that I could discuss for better or worse. I would say something similar to your 562 with reverse would be the ticket for your straight stitch usage. You did mention you had a table so its in the running for sure, put it on a spreadsheet or big chief tablet and do some compares. Looks like a nice aluminum oil pan on the other side there, though I'm not positive if it can exchange with other machine heads if that matters. I can say constructively just like to see others find the right machine so compare and be patient. good day Floyd

Uwe, can you explain what stitch type is available with these machines. Single or multi step / point, I am curious but have no reference. thanks Floyd

That, narrowing of the present need is great and I think a great step. Flatbed machine is perfect and on the main projects just a servo with smallest pulley obtainable ?40 mm possibly. With the slings they can be done in short pretty easy with out a pulley reducing setup ( which is a low gear kind of ) but the sheaths with many times 3 layers and tough should have a serious look at http://www.allbrands.com/products/13324-superior-sr-2-speed-reducer-3-6-9-pulley-install-b?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feeds&utm_term=Superior&gclid=CKj5-MHK8dACFZWCaQodbjcKqA There are some dealers that frequent the site helping with questions at times and able to offer many of these as you may know. They could give some tips if phoned also, seems the phone is best. So if still looking at machines as your photo, I would have them remove the motor so you would not have to deal with that, its worth a coffee at the scrap yard maybe a doughnut. There are servos costing under 220.00 and there is experience on the site here for just about everyone so. There are great machines selling everywhere, sometimes they turn up when not looking so just keep an eye open. craigslist, and others local are super for finding a deal. Good day Floyd

I guess I should have ask, step up as in 3 point for the zig zag and if interested in a thumper or some lighter sail work. I could be interested in these http://www.cowboysew.com/product4.htm

I'm not sure I'm pickin up what your looking for but glad to help, so anyway is it another flatbed with reverse or ? maybe a cylinder setup. And I'm just asking not sure whats in the classified listings below And welcome to the site. Floyd

Oh sorry! I had thought you went to the store, locally. That issue is tough everywhere believe me, from experience just call in the morning when they have done one cup of coffee. They will be glued, to the conversation, they actually like messin with machines not the pc or phone even. give them a ring : ) Later Floyd

It does have a reverse lever, and this model as an industrial doesn't typically use a spool holder they use a giant spool on adjacent stand, thus less getting up : ) Its considered a top load having the bobbin easily accessed. I have an older similar non walker I bought my sister lunch for as she thought it would go to high if I raised my hand. She was correct, and that took a lot of work to properly setup for an 8 hour days usage, and you need that now. I hope that's not to harsh If this is your first machine, I would pass and find another a bit more ready for you to put the pedal to the metal. Some things that are really critical nowadays are following and will be required in this machine you have posted. You will need bobbins, a different set of feet purchased, then tuned/setup properly. This is not ready to plug n play, sorry! you would be needing a 200.00 servo motor with a reducing pulley setup of a rough cost of another 150.00 all these items and preliminary work takes a bit of time and enjoyment, yet can be costly. good day and please take this litely!? Floyd

I cannot imagine why a dealer, locally would not want to sell a machine, especially in the biz to sell. Maybe you can help clarify "more" how we can help your decisions, its always good to help another spend their money!. Sounds like Christmas! Good day Floyd

I would sure be interested in a engineers manual for the 1341, I'm not sure that its the same manual with what you could use for the 341. I just haven't got around yet ordering one, my ops manual is slacking on any great info for this. It may be an option using another model for the upper part settings with yours also. good day Floyd

Might be as easy calling a dealer, its sure possible there is one available. That sure makes it nice on other models being able to see the work a bit better. I've noticed there's been some with a thread slot in them I have seen before, and its a good question seriously, so maybe someone can find something. Floyd

Sewing Leather / Leather+Canvas Machine Advice
brmax replied to CloudyCreek's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
It helps to have two people anyway ya look at it, moving a "machine head " or the stand itself into a new location, be residential or commercial. These walking foot machines "industrial" 8hr days every day, several shifts, machines are tough and simply require some good help moving around. The first things I do is fit wheels on stands for my particular setup, and each place and persons station is different, as should be. I cannot stress enough to a person interested in this to select a thread size or sizes very similar as this is going to be the best choice and most precise setup you can ask a professional to set up. There is simply no machine that can jump from hair thin thread to rope size threads without "proper adjustment" so I remind myself of this often. It looks as though if bags are an item on the list, well the choice should lead towards the cylinder arm machine. Just because some of the tough ends or bottom sections to sew are really tough or impossible on a flat top, you can only twist and fold material so much. I think some great design planning can have a big influence on machine type availability also : ) So with that consider the tough nuts / material folding dilemmas at present and we look forward hearing in your future choices. good day Floyd -
Just from your part names the feed motion cam is the item to have more duration for lengthened stitch in my "figrs" I also believe the .007" clearance is perfect and being between .004"-.008 for flat land type bearing surfaces, many times oil film thickness is proportional to surface. Keep us posted on the work good luck Floyd

brmax replied to Thor's topic in Saddle Supplies, Tools & Trees
That's a pretty cool stand! any splittin adustment needs you may want later, here's and idea. A wood wedge with a couple dips for adjustment to sit at the cross pipe, like a door or wheel chock. nice stand for sure Floyd -
Sewing Leather / Leather+Canvas Machine Advice
brmax replied to CloudyCreek's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
It may be an option in using your existing Singer machine you mention, please lets us know the model and we can better help at this stage. As mentioned there are several companies that help answer questions here for members and in turn some purchase from these. There are many machines used with everyone here that are very old and newly purchased from everywhere on the globe, so welcome to the site and beware its one of them old school sites, people help others good day Floyd -
Sometime back in the summer there were discussions on this, and it comes up for many materials being sewn. You may find a choice you like better, and add sometimes these shapes and angles give purpose as I also found in reading. That link above and some post on the site here have quite a few tips. Welcome to the site and check out the sew machine areas Floyd
