  1. or just see if you can take it to the bathroom and drop some water on it. If it absorbs the water, pretty good odds it's veg tanned
  2. only thing that looks weird to me is the eye. I think it's supposed to be a closed eye but the angle just doesn't look right. Other then that, looks great
  3. that doesn't sound right to me either for shipping. I can ship a wallet and a belt for less then $15.00 to anywhere in North America. I'll PM my postal code for you to check
  4. I'd be interested as well depending on shipping costs to north of the border
  5. Do a search on youtube for Chief31794 and you'll find 5 videos on how to start, finish, do the corners and splice
  6. I still go to your videos for doing the corners. I can do the rest fine but even with all the times I still need help on the corners so I'm glad you did those videos
  7. 10:1 water:oxblood will give you pink
  8. Anything you put on natural veg tanned leather will darken it some but you would need something with uva and uvb blocking as sunlight will darker leather. You don't want to use olive oil or neatsfoot oil as that will darken it as well. Not sure if resolene or tankote will do what you want or not
  9. looking good so far. For the lace, measure the edges you want to lace then multiply that by 9 and add 10%, just for good measure. I'm curious how comfortable it is with the suede lace going up the middle. Any time I've used it, it tends to bulk up quite a lot
  10. the fact that it doesn't give a thickness (1mm or 0.035", etc) makes me wonder just how heavy the thread will be when you get it. It looks a lot like tandy's Waxed Linen Thread and that stuff is 0.08mm (0.031") but no way to know and nothing to compare it to in their image
  11. not a bad price. if my local guy fails to deliver I may get a set from you
  12. ok, I got ya but the stamps are done in reverse to start with so the image shows properly when pressed into the leather
  13. /bows down to the Master and the master has spoken
  14. you lost me. what do you mean if it was mirrored? if what was mirrored? and the c clamp just takes the place of the arbor press
  15. nice looking burnishers. What kind of price are you charging for them?
  16. to be honest I've never tried but I doubt it, least not many. You could grab a cheap c clamp though and use that
  17. Looking at the one Marshy made, certainly not. It looks like your stamp is only about 1/8" or so thick. I have a contact here that makes custom stamps for me for $4.00-$7.00 each and he layers them until they are almost 1" thick. I use them with a 1ton arbor press and they stand up great. You may want to make them thicker and you'll find you may not need 2 clamps Here's one I had made
  18. if the stress on the item is low, use a thonging chisel (ie wallet edging). If the stress is high (ie motorcycle seat) then use round holes. The slits will be more likely to tear in a high stress location compared to round holes
  19. buff the living crap out of the flesh side, slick with water then hit with the resolene or beeswax. Better option is to line or leave natural color
  20. the ones I've made, I take the width, add the depth then add the thickness of the leather plus any lining. Also add whatever amount you plan on using for your stitching area. I usually line with felt that's about 3/16" thick so it gives a little extra forgiveness.
  21. To get an idea, look at how many bags you make in a 6 month period and see how many use zippers. Then figure out how many need each type of zipper. Add all the bags together that use each one and order double if you see production increasing in the next year
  22. still not sure where I found it but here it is
  23. I forget where I found it but I found a bracelet and necklace length guide. I'll see if I can find it and upload it for you
  24. might help if you posted a few pictures so we can see what issues you are having
  25. you can try some of the hand made gadgets found with a youtube search, pay someone to do it for you or buy a splitter. If you plan on doing a lot of them, buy your own splitter. However, cutting your own blanks at the 2 weights you want will be cheaper, especially if you go with the same weight for both the front and the back.
