If your life is busy, keep your projects small . This way you see a finished product. Try bookmarks or a coaster set. You can practice carving on these small items and if it doesn't work out no great loss of leather. cheers

love the skull and really like the black...

Oh clay, soooo nice. I have tried to make a full face mask for a wall hanging, but i cant get the nose right. Everytime i try to wet stretch the leather for the nose, the surrounding leather gets all wrinkly and gets stretch marks. Do you stretch from the back or from the front and then pop the stretched area back out?

love the dragon hat, maybe use a plain background next time, it will show up your work better. Well done.

Just thought i would post something here to start the ball rolling. My dog Banjo, a golden lab is such a darling. I really think he is an angel in fur!! He has a heart of gold and wouldn't hurt anyone. He doesn't dig, doesn't bark , he loves his cuddles and really wishes our cat would be his best friend (not in this lifetime!). He is six years old and i got him from the pound at 6 months of age. We did 2 years of obedience training and he will do anything for a food treat. He has become a celebrity on youtube with 39000 hits on his video, just type in labrador and he comes up on the first page (kitten attacks labrador or is it love) or go here He is my shadow, he is my friend, he is my big baby and i love him. My other pet is my cat Comet. He is a tonkinese and considers himself boss of the house as cats do. He is not the cat in the video, that cat unfortunately is no longer with us. Pets make our lives better.

garment patterns and clothes making

Was i the model? ...in my dreams -
I really enjoyed reading the latest topics about garment patterns and clothes making. It jogged my memory about a period when i tried my hand at leather garments. I must be getting old because i had totally forgotten about these projects. I have found some old photos that i have scanned so the quality is not so good. Of course going through old photos side tracked me for a while. Going down memory lane is quite distracting. The clothes were made from soft suedes etc, using both sides to get slight color variations. They were sewn on a normal sewing machine using "leather needles". I found any normal sewing pattern could be used for leather as long as the leather is not too thick, so soft suedes are great. These photos are from the mid 80's i think. The leather bikini was quite a hit, i don't know what happened to the top in the photo. I loved the pale pink outfit, it was a top and shorts set. The high waisted skirts and shorts are so 80's!! Happy New Year to everyone [attachme t=4818:IMG1_0002.jpg]

What got any of us started with leather?
leatheroo replied to Cora's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I was 16 at school and in craft we did one term of cooper work, one term of spinning and weaving and one term of leatherwork. I can still spin wool on my spinning wheel and have continued with the leatherwork. Thankyou to Sacred Heart High School and their teachers. -
I am making my first knife sheath
leatheroo replied to MikeO's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hi, i make molded leather masks that i have to wet mold. The method i use is to soak the leather in hot tap water until no more air bubbles are present. I then mold the leather into shape and let is dry in the sun. If i am in a hurry i dry it in an oven at a low low temperature...about 40 degrees celcius, equivilent to a very hot day. I have found the leather hardens more with hot water than cold. If the water is too hot, that is boiling, the leather shrinks lots!! cheers -
Love it!!!!
