  3. Samuel, Welcome to the great leather forum.
  4. Welcom Aaron. And hope you live close to your dad so you can pick up some help/tips.

  6. Welcome Trevor. Always especially nice to see new folks with lots of experience. Regis
  7. Johanna, Ditto, Happy birthday!
  8. Someone recently talked about under cutting stitch line (rater than groving) so they could lay leather back down over the stitches and glued.
  9. Although, failure to do so does create future garage sale items!! Personal observation!
  10. You could backup to CD's. If you don't have CD writer, you could add in a USB port the same ase Kate was saying. Regis
  11. Very neat I also like the stitching
  12. Of course digital is faster to read but, slide and dial are pretty easy once you get used to it. Good luck on the batteries. Regis
  13. Batteries go fast in these in-expensive ones (unless you're really really lucky). I got tired of keeping extra batteries around and reverted back to a mechanical caliper.
  14. There was a great audio email going around a year or so ago. when telemarkerer called and asked for Mr XYZ, the guy said......this is detective Jim and you have called into a crime scene. We believe Mr xyz has been murdered. Just what dealings have you had with Mr. xyz? Don't hang up, we already have your number. Where were you at 3am this morning? Can anyone verify? I'm affraid we're just going to bring you in for some questioing. Just would not let the caller off the phone and........... It went on and on and was halarious. Hope someone saved it and can post it.
  15. Welcome to the most interesting and helpful forum....enjoy Regis
  16. Just amazing to see this progress in detailed step by step. Clay's skill AND patience to photo & document each step. I've got a lot of books and video but, none show better than Clay's. Kudo's to him for giving us newer carvers a tutorial like this. Thanks Clay and Johanna Regis
  17. I believe I would have it made with a pencil slot up the exact center of the T leg. Regis
  18. If you want one, it would be fairly expensive because someone would have to hand make & mark (e.g. figure about the the same as if you custom made one out of leather for a client). If you want to get few hundred made so you can market them, send me e-mail or PM. One of my son's in Arkansas has a computerized fab shop for metal that can easily produce these. Regis
  19. I just got my application returned with "No such number". I verified number on envelope with form (1536 Park Ave.) I called the phone number on the form but, it is disconnected???? anyone else getting their applications through? Regis
  20. Bruce, Happy birthday
  21. Got my new Henley swivel knife in today. Sure is great pleasure to handle and use a fine quality tool (of any kind). There is absolutely no comparison to the cheap tandy-like knives I've been using. My old blades feel as sharp (to touch) and are polished as well but, don't come near the smooth cuting of this Henley. I did get the 3/8" knerl handle and it is smooth turning and simply wonderful. My fingers are short but have fairly large hand and this fits perfect. I can't compare this to other high quality knives but, this one meets the "get-what-you-pay-for" test. I would still agree with those that say try as many as you can and then buy the one that works best for you. With no stores or carvers nearby, you can say I got mail-order-lucky (with the help of folks here on leatherworker.net of course). Regis
  22. After reading all this and then talking to the Henley folks, I took the plunge. I wanted to have one very good and very sharp knife. I think mine is sharp but, I have nothing to compare to (until the IFoLG in Oct). I did go with 3/8ths barrel as I wanted to try one a little smaller than the standard $10 tandy that I'm using. I'd much rather try several as suggested but, there's nuttin' round here! Regis
  23. Myriam, Welcome to this great forum of leather ideas, facts, and art. Lot of halpful folks here. I particularly like your roses on the bookmark. Regis
  24. WildRose had previously posted at Celtic Knot Font (from clanbadge.com) and that is where I went to get it. I think other have also posted it. It is a font that you can use in basically any PC program. Regis
  25. I downloaded the Celtic font program used by some of the folks here. Don't know how others use it but here is one design that I manipulated in Corel Draw. The one in the bottom right was done with the celtic fonts and the others were copies with various graphic effects applied. Wish my carving/tooling would catch up to my computer skills. You can definately take this to much greater extreme. Drawing - Carved - Regis
