I was going to respond to the other thread about short skirts but my therapist thought it a poor idea! How'd ya know I havn't been sleeping well lately.

Very good 1st try. A word about sewing, if you glue the parts together, then sand or trim the edges equal before you gouge the sewing channel you can be pretty sure the groove on the back will line up if your tool is setup to follow the edge on both sides. Also machine and/or hand awl sewing makes a squarer hole compared to a round punch or drill bit. Purely a personal aesthetic choice but I find if the thread is not thick enough to disguise the round holes somewhat, they do not look as nice as the square one lying in the sewing channel.

How ironic, I married one of those in the early seventies, living hell for awhile.LOL

Stitching patches on leather motorcycle jackets
Jordan replied to UKRay's topic in How Do I Do That?
Can't be of much help other than it seems pretty straight forward, as long as you check if the leathers have a removable liner so you don't sew through that. And Bree is a few days into a 10 day fishing vacation from what I read. There are a few others here that do patches so I think you will get a lot of advise. -
Just did not have a photo of the left one

Here is some hand sewing that is my personal best, I have not been able to do the same or better since. Unfortunately the photo sucks.

It only took me 2 years.......
Jordan replied to The Major's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
A real nice binder looks to me like 2 years paid off in spades. -
I think they would be a better fit if you could place them in between the leatherworker.net main page menu bar and the logged in as menu bar.

I think I would like it if in thinking of me after I am gone, it puts a smile on someones face.

gun molds for holster makers
Jordan replied to troop's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
One option would be to purchase a weapon direct from the mfg. that has been rendered inoperable, usually a defective mfg process in some way causes an unsalable item and rather than scrap them they sell them as non-firing replicas. I have seen some occasionally for 75 to 100 dollars. Other than that the customers gun, rings blue or duncan aluminum dummies would be needed. Also a benevolent gun shop owner may let you spend some quality time with their inventory to make some patterns and test fits. -
Oil and Sun Dyeing ?
Jordan replied to HARVEY's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I have just oiled it and laid it out on the spa cover for 4-5 hours seems to work ok. I did make the mistake of leaving a few un-oiled pieces on top of each other in the basement where light from a window hit them, a few weeks later I had leather with a suntan matching the pieces laying on top. I was able to even them out by laying them in the sun for the day. If you buy a leather kit from a store that has been on the shelf for sometime the same thing happens if sunlight has been hitting the package. -
Verily I say unto you...Great job and your right about the lettering/background but I think it probably shows more in the foto than up close and personal.

application of "edge dye/ink"
Jordan replied to ABC3's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Clothespin and a thick piece of felt or dense sponge, or more often than not, a small paintbrush, tedious but effective. -
Really nice grapes and vine. Golf and wine are pretty good hobbies, personally I used to enjoy the latter.

I trace the lines lightly on cased leather, then seed the intersections then swivel the lines to the seed or whatever stamps design etc. then ballend stylus to open the lines up. At least I am pretty sure thats what I did, but whatever way works for you is the way to do it Oh yea I used a 6" machinists rule to mark the lines.

How do you organize your books/patterns?
Jordan replied to Rawhide's topic in Patterns and Templates
Most of my cardstock patterns I put a hole in them and hang them on a pegboard, of course I found out I need to mark the hole as a hanger and not part of the pattern! Everything else is willy-nilly all over the place, really got to work on that, I used to be so organized, sigh..... -
A straightedge, a swivel knife, a seeder and a ballend stylus is what I used.

Welcome. I can not help with machine information but am especially interested in learning about Top Hat design and construction. There are a few machine guru's here that I am sure will steer you in the right direction.

One of Stolhmans books cites a piece of heavy metal bar wrapped in thin leather and stitched. I use paper can't stand that curly velum.

oils??
Jordan replied to Tkleather1's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Extra Virgin has a stronger aroma than regular olive oil, as long as it says pure it should be ok. To my knowledge it does not go rancid and it is easy to apply. If you lay your piece out in the sun, the leather after application it will get darker kind of like giving it a tan. I use it on quite a few things, my feet smell like a Greek salad after wearing my sandals for awhile. LOL -
LOL, It seems that the stars of yesteryear were grouped in 3's as far as looks go. And they unfortunately seem to pass on in 3's also., cept the character actors.

I think he meant that the vid and site are a nonprofit political organization run by hollywierd elite designed to get the 18-29 yr olds in the U.S. to become politically active in their government. They make a statement that they do not endorse any party or candidate. but judging by the people involved I would say there is a definite libertairian or at least democratic leanings. Good Video though, and the basic premis is a good one, young people need to be aware and educated about goverment and how it works if they are going to make any changes.
