Belt "dragon"
Eccho replied to Tatyana's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Just beautiful..........very nice work. -
Sorry but waxed soles???? Sounds like a recipe for a broken leg to me. Waxed soles, wet marble or terraza floor, spells " law suit". Just sayin'...........

Another easy thing is go to an rv supply or Wal....., and buy a small roll of "No Skid". It is usually in with shelf lining paper and the like. It is used to line the shelves in an rv to keep your things from sliding around while bouncing down the freeway. It has a slightly pebbled surface and feels rubbery. $3-4 for about a 1' X 12' roll which will last for years. Works for me, at least for the carving. When you start to pound, take it off because it will give you a little bounce, which you don't want.JM2C..Eccho

If you are not going to line the inside, you might want to seal it with Gum Tragacanth. This will seal it as well as allow you to smooth the inside so it does not abrade the skin. While applying the GT simply smooth with a modeling spoon, or a kitchen spoon works even better, as it covers more area quickly, before the GT starts to dry.I use it on some of my cuffs if I am not lining them with pig skin. Very nicely done.Is that a cross stitch your doing with your lace?

Thank you for the reply Dwight. I did download the catalogue, and while they have a lot of buckles, sadly............no joy. It seems as soon as you go to 2" the buckles are huge! No way are they usable in a wrist watch band setting. Thanks again, I will keep looking. Eccho

Need Help Finding A More Durable Finish For Cuff Bracelets
Eccho replied to Eirewolf's topic in How Do I Do That?
Eirewolf, you may be missing the point. While you are happy with the dye you are using it does not seem too stable, if it is rubbing off. If you do not want to try the vinegaroon idea, try a different dye. I make a lot of black products, 95% in fact. I love Feibings water stain. Very easy to apply, beautiful lustrous color, and absolutely no rub off..........ever! Appy...........buff...........apply finish........apply Auzzie cream...........perfect! Because most of my products are black, I am using Goof Proof finish from Springfield leather, it has a tan cast and would not be good for other lighter colors, but works great on black. I make biker cuffs and some have been in service now for several years with no bleed off problems. JM2C........keep smilin' ...... Eccho- 15 replies

Hi there everyone. I have been wanting to make some biker style watch bands. The 2"( 50.8mm ) width seems to be the most popular. I am having a hard time trying to locate appropriate buckles for these. I see watches with the style of band I would like, but cannot seem to find them for sale, or they are so insanely priced ($31.00) I could never sell the band for a reasonable price anyway. I have made a couple fitted for the individual using snap closures, but to make it for the gen pop, I would need buckles. If anyone has a supplier in mind, and would share that information, I would be very grateful. Thanks......Eccho

What a great idea! How come I never think of these things..............oh! That's right.............cause I'm OLD!! I forgot. Thank you so much for sharing,,,,I am going to give this a try for sure.

I LOVE IT! Really nice job, and I know what you mean about the lettering, it can be a real #$%^&. If you don't mind sharing, how did you form your end caps, they look really nice and tight? The color is killer too. Well done.

I have been using the Olfa blades. They are made in Japan but are pretty high quality. The have a good edge, and more importantly they strop really well. They are usually available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. A little more pricey than the ones at Harbor Freight, four times the price, but they outlast the cheapies by a mile. IMHO Hope this helps Eccho

I want to try to use some of the koi images that are out there, many of them are quite beautiful. Now while they are used a lot in tattoos, I have seen some artisans use them in leather, rather successfully. My problem is I can't figure out what stamp to use for the scales. A mules foot is too much of a V, and a veiner usually has a riffled edge to it. Can anyone suggest a stamp that makes a good size scale, as koi tend to have rather large scales, being of the carp family. Any help, greatly appreciated. Eccho

I have been hooked from the first one I saw.....No pun intended. I may have asked this before, If I have forgive me....I'm old....but are these originals? If they are, you are really on to something here. I mean the art work of course, I realize you did the leather work. Creepy but somehow strangely beautiful.IMHO

Addition To Bag

You have a really good eye for balance, as well as good taste. Well done! -
I agree with quirtevans. I looked in the yellow pages for granite counter tops, called up the first place and the guys asked me what it was for. So, I told him, and he said " well, I have a nice piece of 11/4" by 21" X 18" if you want that". I asked how much, he said, " put a donation in the "Kids Miracle Network " jar on the desk and it's yours. Now I will grant you, it was not free, but I got to make a $20.00 feel good donation, and a kick ass hunk of granite, so win - win in my books. :>)

Welcome! Twenty sq. ft. of leather is going to make a lot of projects, but that does seem very expensive....but then it is Norway....Good Luck...and don't be afraid to show us some of your artwork, it's not leather but we all appreciate talent, where ever it may be. Eccho....

Ankle Boots Made From Cut Off Eelskin Cowboy Boots
Eccho replied to DoubleC's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
You could be on to something Cheryl. I was in Goodwill the other day looking for used ladies boots to showcase boot chains at motorcycle show and shines. They had lots of boots, but I was blown away by how much money they wanted for USED boots. I thought I would be buying them for maybe $10.00 Pr. Hah....more like $25-$30. Used men's boots $8.00-$10.00 ...what's up with the women's boots?....Sorry not trying to hijack...just figured since you were savaging a pair of boots, maybe you had a source.:>) -

I might suggest dropping a line to Springfield Leather....they are in the header. They do a lot of work for customers needing quantity, I am pretty sure they can help. Plus they are really great folks to deal with.

I was making something similar as a beer bottle wrap. Caught on a little too well, people started ordering them in six packs, and I hate repetition. But I just used a whip braid to close the seam. By using vinyl lace there is a nice spring action to it. Sorry......not trying to hijack your thread.

I really like it! What back grounder are you using directly around the skeleton, very nice effect.
