Made this one for an Indiana Jones junkie. This was my first try at a 12 footer. I have done several 3, 4, and 6 footers, but never a 12. It was fun, once I got used to working with thongs of that length (24 ft was my longest, 12 feet was my shortest.) for the final plait. The whip is constructed of 8 layers of plaited roo. Final covering was a 16 Plait over 1 under 1 for the handle and a under 3 and over 2 for the rest of the length. Definitely a challenge. And yes I will admit one mistake, after finishing about 6 inches past the handle, I realized I didn't bevel my thongs. (DOH!) Can't wait to do my next one. I have to say, once I got used to handling a 12 foot whip after knocking myself a few times with it, it sounds awesome. Seasoned whip experts and others. please critique.

Make a guide line and follow it with the front of the tool rather than the back. I have been trying to find a picture of a purse I did with a mule's foot simulating snake scales, but the one set of spur straps I did will have to work. Please excuse the crappy pic.

Hopefully your price tag will be much higher than that. You can always come down.

I have a Mach 1 and for what I use it for it works well. I have had to make several modifications to make it work better. I have a tendency to hand sew more than anything. Everything Art said is true. John is an excellent guy to deal with. When I bought mine, I was looking at a tippman boss. But since I found the Mach 1 at just about the same price, I went with the power unit. The motor is does take some getting used to to get the slow stitching, but you get used to it. I highly recommend trying some machines out. A mistake I made, but definitely not a regret. John will work you through any problem you might have. But try others out.

You know Clay, I have always been amazed at your lifted leaves. Personally, I think yours blow Jeff's away.

Depends what color. each color has a different density and ease of application varies with color and use. Also some rouge requires heat to melt it to use. It should be a little like chalk if it is fresh. But a lot of the time if you expose some of the abrasive beyond the outer layer it should be fine. Sometimes rouge forms a hard layer on the outside, scrape some away with a razor blade, and try rubbing it out then. But it will all dry out eventually. Store in a ziploc bag.

Great suggestions offered thus far. I can only add one more thing. If you wanted to save some time and ensure you are getting an even back on your strap. Invest in a splitter. -

Before everyone lights up the torches and gathers a mob, please consider this. California, passed laws banning the sale of product sold in containers not made of recycled materials. I had to deal with this issue at my company for some products which was already "eco-friendly" but the container was not made of recycled material. It may not have to do anything with the product itself, but it's container. Also a low VOC product does not have to be non-flammable. to be considered low voc. Finally, the term non-flammable also does not mean it is truly non-flammable. That is a myth.

Is it possible for you to define Crust and Vegetable Crust. I have never heard of that term. Thanks
