  1. You can also try Montana Silversmiths. http://www.montanasilversmiths.com/ The only sell through dealers.
  2. Actually the tool we are talking about is the one pictured. Delrin is a trade name product from Dupont. Delrin is an acteal homopolymer
  3. My $0.02. I have purchased the tandy ones and had to modify them to actually do what they are supposed to do nicely. I first learned about Jeff's petal tools just before the IFOLG show last year and was able to see them at the show. they are some nice looking tools. I am saving the pesos to get a set from him, as he does offer more sizes than Tandy or HC.
  4. You bring up an excellent point Alex. I find it interesting that one of the oldest art media, still has issues being recognized in the mainstream.
  5. Welcome aboard!
  6. When I dye, the only thing I like to do is clean the surface with rubbing alcohol or deglazer. When you apply the dye, start in a horizontal direction, second coat go in a vertical direction, then on a third go diagonally. This should eliminate the streaking. The stolman book on coloring leather explains it better. Just start out with lighter colors. Thin your colors out so the color does not get too dark. For oil dyes, I usually use a 3-1 mix of 1part dye to 3 parts NF oil.
  7. Welcome aboard!
  8. Veg-Cowhide for sure, The dimensions are really dependant on the size of the tools you are stroping. You can use the same type of leather for the strops. Keep the strap natural. I will add a tad bit of oil to my strop, the same honing oil I use on my sharpening stone. I will also use red rouge on it tool You should oil it often. When I made mine I used a piece of 2" wide 10 oz leather and the finished length of the strop is about 8 inches overall.
  9. Unfortunately, we are our best and worst critics of our own works. But sometimes we just have to let the piece go as is if we still expect to make money. I have lost allot of money over the years starting over if I am not happy with a project. I have to fight the urge nowdays to start over. But the thing to remember is that YOU are the one that is unhappy with it, so a line may not have been completely straight (unless it is really off, let it go). 90% of the time the customer won't notice. Chaulk it up to learning and move on. If the customer complains about it then deal with it. Also try working your errors into the design. From what I see in the pictures it looks great, I would add some more feather details on the body and head. But that is great work. Don't be too hard on yourself.
  10. Happy Birthday Bruce! Finally old enough to drink huh?
  11. SEM Color Coat. Used for repairing automotive interiors. Will remain flexible. All you need to do is scuff the leather a little with some 200 grit and clean it.
  12. I used to be of that mindset. And all I got out of it was squished thread. As have been mentioned already, I just run a bone folder over the stitches to set them in the stitch groove. You can also use the overstitch wheel, but I have found if you do a nice tight stitch to begin with, you almost never have to go over them again after you are done.
  13. Welcome aboard Scott. I am sure you will find a home here.
  14. Pecards has pre packaged 0.75 oz packages for $1.25 each. They are nice and small. But have enough in there for several applications. You can order it directly from their website www.pecard.com
  15. Happy Happy Frank!
  16. Very nice Dave.
  17. I would give a coat of saddle lac (my preference) and put a coat of leather dressing on it. And supply a small container of dressing for the customer to apply every 6 months or so. Neatsfoot oil may cause more problems than it is worth.
  18. I guess no one told him about the irish spring trick. Put an open bar of irish spring bar soap on each tire and toss one or 2 on the floor of the interior. The mice can't stand the smell for some reason. Plus it smells a heck of allot better than moth balls.
  19. Nice design Holly
  20. Very impressive Beeze.
  21. Who did the bronc rider siloutte with the sheridan design in the center. I really like that portfolio. Thanks for the pics Clay. One day I'll get out there.
  22. Muchos thanks. Sorry for the late response, I've been away from technology for a few days and doing some hardcore visiting with my marble slab. Thanks again!
  23. That is one nice looking whip Victor.
