OMG! Sheep PONG!I took your advice on putting my coffee down before opening that movie, but you never warned me about passing donut through my nose!

Yes, he does do excellent scroll work, and superb finger cutting!

I turn the XM up, since it's in the kitchen, and I work in the dining room. I get myself a big cup of coffee with a cover, 'cuz I hate spills. I never eat while I work - greasy finger prints don't work well with dye. And you'd be surprized just how fast leather absorbs odors. If it's my own stuff, then fine, but if it's for a customer or not for me, I wouldn't burn anything nearby... Sometimes I forego the coffee, and do a couple of Coronas with lime. Note: Beer doesn't stain like coffee

Sounds like the packages of beef I get from the store... Product of U.S.A., Canada, Mexico. Wow, THAT narrows it down!

Great looking necklace, Tom! I'll PM you with my mailing address so you'll know where to send it! Hilly

Heh. Try driving a school bus during a full moon.

I feel your pain, man! I've been sort of drooling over them myself. If they had a layaway program, I'd gladly start making payments on a new machine. Oh well, their loss. Try and cheer up, and maybe use some of that tax return $$$ and buy yourself a 6-pack to drown your sorrows with. Make it Corona with a slice of lime, and have one or two many for me, too

Just got my "Tandymail", tried going to the website, and guess what? I can't get in now, either. Seems Tandy has some "issues" to work out.

I was just there with no problems. Try going there again. Maybe it's some setting in your computer?

what stain or dye to use

Hi Tom. That's a really nice looking job you did! I've taken projects and applied a light coat of neatsfoot oil, and layed my stuff out in full sun for a day or maybe 2. It gives the most beautiful suntan to the leather! Then I use another light coat of oil because I feel the sun dries the leather out a bit. Waited overnight, did a resist, and then antiqued with med brown antique. I was very pleased with the results. Maybe try it with some scrap, and see whatcha think? Hilly -
Clay, I really like this piece! Your attention to detail really makes the difference! I especially like the texture of the cattail! It looks so soft. Thanks for sharing. Hilly

Or you can go to a place that makes custom counter tops, and get granite sink cutouts for free.

Is there a way that someone here that braids could do a youtube video demonstrating from beginning to end, beginning with the side of rawhide, when it arrives at your home? The proper consistency to cut into circles, and demonstrate cutting, beveling and splitting of strings, and maybe doing a simple round braid? It could really help beginners to understand what the books can't show you. I really hope one of you fine braiders will find some time to dust off your video camera and help out the newbies. Hilly

It may sound strange, but in the book "The Art of Making Leather Cases" Vol.II by Al Stohlman, the tecnique for making round handles with hidden seam is covered. I think this technique could also apply to collars, eh? Also, instructions on how to make your own "rounder" are included in the same book. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps you a little. Hilly

Trooper Chuck, I don't think setting a good example in this world will get you anywhere, either. Just think of all us who pay our taxes, work every day, take responsibilitiey for our actions, make our house payments on time, pay our debts, and mind our own business. Where is it getting us? It's sad but true.

Common sense and logic? Ummm, you forgot to mention MORALS.

Who the heck are you, and what have you done with Jaybird? My gosh, that looks fantastic! Hilly

I agree with you on a lot of what you said (not all), and go further to add that in being able to discuss things we disagree on here, it may help us to understand the "others" view point a little, and maybe find some common ground. When it comes to talk radio show hosts (like Mark Levin, for example) yelling and pounding their fists on the table, calling people schmucks, well, I just view that as entertainment value, and nothing more. Don't worry though, it won't happen for much longer. Soon the fairness doctrine will be put back into effect, and our freedom of speech will be taken away.

What happened to all the free patterns from Tandy?
Hilly replied to Hilly's topic in Patterns and Templates
Thank you Shane! That was exactly what I was looking for! Hilly -
I'm wondering what happened to all the free patterns that Tandy had on their website? I KNEW I should've saved a couple of my favorites, but never did. I figured they'd always be there when I needed them. What WAS I thinking! Now I'd really like the pattern for the catalog cover of the eagle perched on a branch... If anyone has this pattern to share, could you please PM me? Hilly

Hi Mark. Beautiful work! I might not know what the first picture is, but it's still a beautiful bit of work LOL! (Sorry, I'm ignorant about cowboy stuff.) The picture of the little guy with the taps looks like it belongs in a magazine! Hilly

"How to"
Hilly replied to honestswede's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I had the same problem with my dyes being too dark until I began spraying my dye on instead of using a dauber. Makes for a easily controlled color and even coverage with no streaking. You can get inexpensive sprayers with a glass jar and a bottle of propellant to spray your dye like this one, or you can use a compressor and a spray gun. I use an HVLP gun or an airbrush to spray my dyes, but many people don't have that kind of luxury. Hope this helped some. Hilly -
You'd understand if you lived in Wisconsin. Really.

Can't help you out with the rawhide part, but if you're simply looking to learn the very basics of braiding, then this might help you out. Pretty easy to follow instructions, and I think braiding roo and rawhide would be similar? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
