  1. Sheridan Leather is having their get together on Thursday night.
  2. I'll be there also. I have the privilege of teaching a class on Friday afternoon but will be over at the Best Western. Won't be in until mid morning on Friday and leaving on Saturday afternoon. I like the idea of name tags. Last year, Mark told me he had a handlebar mustache and I told him I would be wearing a black Stetson. We found each other so it really is not that hard to do. Lets keep this going as it is only a few weeks away. Sounds like something Friday night would work best for me but let me know.
  3. The LCSJ is the Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal. I believe teh web site is leathercrafters.com. Not positive, but if you google it you will find it. They put on the show in Sheridan, WY and Wickenburg, AZ. I happen to have an article on braiding a 16 strand belt in the current issue.
  4. Absolutely beautiful. Great work, Brian. Anyone who can make some of these knots has to be crazy. How else could you follow the instructions? Do you plan on sharing the written instructions? Would be a good article in the LCSJ before Christmas. Well before Christmas so we have time to make them. Once again, beautiful work, Brian.
  5. When I buy pre-cut roo lace I go to Barb at Y-Knot Lace. By the way, she is supplying the lace for my "Begining Leather Braiding" class is Sheridan in May. When I cut my own lace I get the roo hides from Midwest Whips. Paul is a wealth of information and fair on prices. I cut my lace with a Dene Williams strander and after stretching it, I use Beven's tool to cut to size and bevel. I also admit that I need to learn the best way to use his beveler but that is another story.
  6. Make horse shoeing aprons with it. Works great for that.
  7. Did you find someone to do this for you? If not, PM me and we can chat. I am willing to do this on an as needed basis for you. We would have to work out some details bu tI am pretty sure we can make it work.
  8. Thank you ferg. I never thought about doing a web search. Yea, what was I thinking? I'll look in to finding more info. Again, thank you
  9. I had a lady bring me an old book missing it's cover. She wants me to make a leather cover. I have a few questions. First and foremost, will it decrease the value of the book if it is covered in leather? Not sure she is worried about that but I am. Second, I am thinking that I make the cover, including the title on binding and front cover, gouge the lines where it will fold and glue the spine of the book to the leather. Also any suggestions on what weight of leather would be helpful. I am thinking of 7-8 oz skirting leather. In other words,HELP!!!!!! Does this sound reasonable? I have not done one of these before and not sure what to do. As always, any and all suggestions are welcome and thank you very much for the help. God Bless
  10. Had a great time in chat last night. Feel sorry for those that missed out. Stay warm.

  11. Also, will you let us know where you get your magnetic clasps? Very nice work.
  12. Very nice. But you realize, we expect this caliber of work from you all the time.
  13. I also think this is a great idea. I guess I third it.
  14. House sitter is arranged and we are getting ready to head to Nebraska. High winds and snow. Should be an interesting dirve.

  15. Here is a 16 strand belt of kangaroo lace. Tried something for a pattern I have not seen but probably done many times over. Comments and critiques welcome
  16. Beautiful work, Bob. When I grow up, I want to be able to tool half that good.
  17. The LCSJ is probably the only magazine of its kind here. I would highly recommend subscribing to it. If you are interestedin braiding, you can check out the Australian Plaiters and Whipmakers Association at www.apwa.org.au They try to produce a Journal 4 times a year. They have great articles about braiding and whipmaking. Many members world wide. Like the LCSJ they are always looking for members to send in how-to articles and such.
  18. Very nice work, Brian.
  19. Very nice. How many ways can it be said?

    Grrrr

I have to agree with the two colors. That is about the only way I can get that done right.
  21. When I start braiding rawhide, if I have to set it down for a day or more, I will store my rawhide in the freezer. Works great. Just don't let your cased and wet leather freeze.
  22. Temperature 1 degree wind at about 15 mph means wind chill -13 degrees. Work should be fun today.

  23. While in Australia in 1988, I bought a Ron Edwards book. I started braiding belts there. In 1993, my wife got me the Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding by Bruce Grant. In it I found Mary Fields who lived about 15 miles from me. I met her and see "took me under her wing" and taught me how to make and braid rawhide. In 2004 a friend talked me into going to Saddle Building School. My employer gave me a 6 week leave of absence to attend. I was blessed with most of the equipment I have also. Been doing leatherwork since 2004.
  24. Very nice, Josh. If you keep inproving you will run out of spare time and be doing the leatherwork full time. Merry Christmas to you also.
  25. Very nice Rob. I have to agree about the colors of the bosalita. Nice contrast but look great together.
