  1. Thank you soooo much everyone :-) Dyeing on leather is not that easy cuz, it "sticks" at the same second the dye hits the leather surface. My way is to delute the dye (a lot) and paint it on layer by layer...This gives me way more control over the whole process even if it takes a longer time.
  2. I made this one a while back and the bummer is...I forgot to take a picture of the backside *Grrr* It has some nice inlay there of phyton, well that's life. It's all dyed with Angelus spirit dye and some white acrylic paint. Ontop I have used the old type of Tandys medium brown antiquing.

I hava the Stohlman book mensioned in this topic and if you like (and the pattern is there, I'm to lacy to go down in the basement right now to check), I can scan it and send it to you in a mail...Let me know//Tina

ps...Your mask hangs beautifully in my new house :-)

  4. ALL Angelus dyes are very pigment strong, you have to delute them and apply layer by layer, this way the dye also lasts soooo much longer. I personally do not have the orange one, I mix my own orange with yellow and the smallest amount of red/pink and loads of spirit to delute the mix. I enclose a picture of a collage with loads of orange tones that I have painted with Angelus dyes...
  5. Many, many people is artistically challenged and would probbably not ask for alreaddy made patterns if they could draw and feel comfortable with it...
  6. Dye would be the best choise but Angelus makes a paint made for leather...It does flex and so far I have not got any cracking from teh paint. Do some image searches on Google with "Angelus leather paint" and you'll see many of those shoepainter artist is actually using it :-)
  7. There is manny old big patterns, handbags, travelbags etc around, every now and again you'll find them on Ebay. Some of them do not come cheap but you can always resell them (after making your own copy of course). I have one for a saddle as well so keep your eyes open and I wish you Good Luck :-)
  8. Because I'm also interested in art in general, this is what I hope I can remeber... The image with horns on the viking helmets is said to be from : Romanticised ideas from artists painting vinkings and it showed up in the 19th (?) century. I hope I remembered the right century, I do not remember if it was here in Sweden but that might sound right :-)
  9. I have to ask....Where do I get myself one of these hammers (raven sledgehammer) ???? Att frysa inför första skärningen är inget ovanligt bara något man måste ta sig igenom, önskar dig all lycka till :-)
  10. Your description sounds just like a leather I use to buy when I lived in the US...Black crome tanned and drummed dried latigo, I got it from HideHouse in CA and it's not cheap :-)
  11. Letaher Wranglers SK3...Make a search on the forum and you'll find loads of people loving these knifes. Paul makes them and is a member here on LW.
  12. I have a few dremels at home and the one I never pick up is a cordless version...The batteries dies to soon and is not worth my time. Any of the others will do fine for edges, find one that feels good in your hand.
  13. This winter...I agree! (touch wood) I would not like a winter again as the last two ones, then the winter was just that, cold, a massive amounts of nasty white fluff falling from the skies and, did I mentioned cold? People do move down here to get away from the winters as much as possible, I love it

I'm giggling like a kid again...Your work is truley wonderful
  20. You can delute the alcohol based dyes as much as you like but: One thing I have noticed is that the more deluted the dye is = it will be more tricky to get an even layer on the leather.
