  1. I like it --- sometimes this can be a tough crowd... As long as you like it, and it serves the purpose, nothing else is necessary...
  2. The main thing is you are having fun and learning a new craft --- do what you like, and if someone else likes it, OK --- if they don't, that's OK also --- we all have different tastes...
  3. This is a patch I did for my son, I used Fiebings antique paste (Black) with tan-kote as a final finish --- I used leather balm with atom wax as a resistor to get some highlights, and Fiebings professional oil dye for the black areas. This may not be a good look for some tastes, but it gave me the old, rugged, worn look I was after...
  4. Welcome to LW.net --- To answer your question, I believe just about any normal top coat will work with this product, Super sheen, leather balm with atom wax, etc... For more info you can read this thread... http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=34586
  5. Divafnk, Just use a larger needle and thread, even if you could somehow pull it off, what would be the purpose? As already stated, those machines will sew very heavy thread...
  6. Lmao, no problem! Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative... sometimes... lol
  7. I have listened to both songs and those are two totally separate pieces of music --- the riff in "Taurus" is just an Am descending riff that has been used in many songs, including "Dream On", and "Something" by the beatles... If Spirit had truly felt "Stairway" was a ripoff they wouldn't have waited 42 years to bring a copyright lawsuit... "Stairway" is an original composition by Jimmy Page that was truly a work of art.
  8. New and original works of art are being created all the time --- even with the limited number of musical chords and notes, musicians still come up with new compositions regularly. As technology advances, people are able to create new things that only a few years before were unheard of... Find me another song that sounds like "Stairway to Heaven".
  9. I have no experience with this machine, but I don't think it is designed to sew 16 oz of leather... It is also bottom feed only which will not be optimum for sewing multiple layers of leather.
  10. My son is happy --- it turned out just like he, I mean, I wanted it to...
  11. Good job, I am partial to skull designs...
  12. I just recently had this discussion with Brad at Barry King tools --- he recommended a 16 oz maul for tooling, and a minimum 32 oz maul for setting snaps and punching holes... The straight, or tapered head is just a matter of personal preference...
  13. I agree with Mike, you are going to be somewhat limited by your budget...
  14. That cat looks just like mine --- I have a work area in my "Man Cave" in addition to my leather shop behind the house, and my cat's love to play around every time I am working in the house --- they love the thread and leather strips that fall on the floor...
  15. You're welcome, looking forward to seeing your work...
  16. This is a patch I am making for my son --- it isn't finished, but he wanted me to post it... This is a variation of a patch design I helped to create in collaboration with a major patch maker --- it is a copyrighted design.
  17. Welcome to the forum --- there is lots of great stuff on here, and don't be afraid to ask questions --- there is always someone willing to help, or at least give you their opinion...
  18. I recommend 2-3 oz for leather shirts (.7mm-.9mm) Optimum 3 -4 oz for Vests, Jackets, and Pants (1.2mm-1,3mm) Optimum 4- 5 oz for Chaps (1.4mm-1.6mm) Optimum All Full-Grain Leather...
