It looks like there is still a good amount of pigment on the surface. Maybe buff it really good with a rag or canvas.....

I would like that dinosaur stamp if it is still available.

Not sure what you mean by reversing it out of the machine? Any one of the standard skiver splitters can do what is called a tapered skive. The hand crank machines are made specifically for splitting the whole piece. As jazzbass pointed out...... Knife skills can accomplish a lot of different work.

It's been awhile, but the last time I hand sewed I slowed way down. I took the time to straighten each thread before inserting the needle into the hole. And then, was very careful at the end of the pull making sure the final bit caused the thread to lay flat. It took some extra time, but it did work. I'm sure Mike's idea is much faster.

Well done, Sir.

@Matt S, I hear what you are saying. And, I have considered that route. But, with my current leather room size, even a smaller bearing press is going to be too big. And I may have to go that route. Eating in front of the TV every night, my wife doesn't really need the dining room, right???

@erikdemelo thanks for the r and d insight. From what I see (in my hobby shop) is a need for a clicker priced in the 5-700 dollar range. I'm not knocking development costs or profit margins, but some of the designs out there have been paid off for decades. I recently contacted Wuta leather about bringing one to the American market. Haven't heard back yet. When you look at a 4 ton swing arm press objectively, there just isn't a whole lot of materials going into them. If it wasn't for the tooling needed to process them we would all be making our own. Sure they speed up the process, if you have another 500-1000 to put into dyes. You see the predicament? This is a lot of up front investment for a hobbyist or small business.

Stitching horse from Springfield Leather?
bikermutt07 replied to Mungo's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
There are also some neat acrylic ones out of Russia. They were on eBay for a bit and then (I think) they disappeared. It's been a while. -
Foot for foot, that maybe the heaviest granite I have handled. It felt like it was twice the thickness. We set in place and didn't even bother to silicone it down. I rapped on it a few times to see if it rattled. Just a dead thud. The color is steel grey. I think it is more dense than even absolute black or Galaxy Black.

Aussie Leather Conditioner
bikermutt07 replied to fiftycrushplan's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
For utility items, I dye, buff with a rag, neetsfoot oil, and then I apply the Aussie. Also, I will gently heat with a heat gun. Then buff again and done. You need proper drying times between all these steps. -

I saw it and slapped my forehead. How did none of us come up with that design years ago? -

Check this one out.... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F362351897096 Wuta has one, but it's not in stock. I like Wuta. -
Yeah we crashed for 3 hours in Flagstaff. And that was it. Spent 3 hours in Vegas loading and then straight back.

It was one of those smokin hot deals across the country we sometimes see. A friend helped me fund it and we shot out from Louisiana to Vegas and back in 54 hours. It was a rough trip. But, worth it.

Thanks, this morning I have been going through stuff to sell or get rid of. Seems like I'm not willing to get rid of most of it. Lol

Ok I am finally making some more progress. The desk is gone and now I have a long narrow cutting area. Although it is covered with leather and supplies. Take notice of the french cleats above and storage below. The right corner will become the power tool area, it will have to make do being a multi duty spot. Drill press, snap press, belt sander and the like. Here is a picture of my main work station. Back wall got covered in French cleats. I fabricated this top this morning. It is a super dense piece of steel grey granite. Very heavy even for granite. And finally the consew 206rb-1 and the cowboy 3200. Well, you can't really see them yet, but I promise they are there. Haha

Quite a while I suppose. As long as you keep doing it, it should last.
