  1. Thanks, I still consider myself a novice at most of the hands on stuff. Although, I think I have reached an intermediate level of understanding of the overall process. That's mostly to do with all the reading and listening I've done here.
  2. @NVLeatherWorx, I'm pretty sure it was you that informed me of that trick.... You said something to the nature of " Only build (keychains?) Until you have perfected keychains, then move on to the next thing. And build it over and over until it's perfect". That's pretty close to what I remember anyway.
  3. Hey David, I'm up here in Bossier. I'm not knocking the guys at the local Tandy, but I'm not sure it would be worth the 2 hour drive. Now, if you are planning to make a decent sized purchase and take a class then it may be. The folks there are real nice. I have wanted to do boots and shoes myself, but it seems that information isn't so readily available. Now there is a group called The Honorable Cordwainers something-rether that does have a significant source of information to dig thru. I think you can find them by searching H.C.C. They are all about preservation of the knowledge. I think I read on there or maybe in a book that the knowledge of lasting has been lost twice already in human history. That seems even more hard to learn about than shoemaking. And yes there are a few places to buy a pair of lasts. However knowing which ones to buy seems to be difficult to find out. If you can make it up this way, I have a few chunks of granite I can send back with you.
  4. I have heard of people using a dummy layer on top of their projects. I haven't tried it myself. Sorry I don't have more to offer.
  5. The bigger the slower. But you need to find out shaft diameters for both pulleys before you order.
  6. I concur with other Matt. Nice looking functional wallet.
  7. Welcome to the most fun frustration available on planet Earth. A simple suggestion. Start things in batches. Small bracelets, card holder wallets, keychains, something small that won't require a lot of leather. Take your group thru the whole process as a batch. This will yield greater improvement with each step in the process with less material. If you build one thing at a time and screw up, you have to start over. But, by doing batches you can continue forward and use the discard pile for tests along the way. I didn't hear about this learning method until I was doing this for two years. Grrrrrr!!! Have fun.
  8. Great find! I'm not familiar with this machine, but I'll share my very limited experience with machines. I have a servo on my consew. It still goes too fast for me. I want it to creep like the cowboy I have. Now, my buddy changed both pulleys on his Adler with a servo and likes it. But, he is way more experienced than I am. Enjoy.
  9. Your stuff looks great. That mask is really cool.
  10. Looks like you're off to a great start. Welcome aboard.
  11. What brand leather and stamps are you using? Stamping came out really crisp. Beautiful piece.
  12. Nice job, glad to see you're still at it.
  13. @YinTx, I agree with everything you just said. The tariffs have to go away, across the board. And, I'm confident they will.
  14. Was Terry Knipshield there?
  15. Looks like a Seiko or consew 206rb-? Or a clone of one. I am mentioning the Seiko or clones due to the color. It looks like my consew 206rb-1, except the color is different. Is there a name/serial# plate on the head anywhere? The clutch motor tag doesn't really tell us anything about the head. It's usually right where that yellow thing is wrapped around. If it is a Seiko or a consew, and is in good working order it will last a long time. And the consew can actually run 207 thread. An expert will be along soon....
  16. Just the other day I was at Home Depot and they had a plastic small tools rack for pegboard. It seemed like it would hold a lot and was only 6 bucks. Check it out.
  17. I'm not finding a Ruger lp9.... Is it a lc9 or maybe a lcp?
  18. If not, old slow has one for sale.
  19. Are you saying he wants like a pioneer type sheath that wraps around the whole knife up to that pommel? If so, that's probably not going to work. Tell him knife design dictates the sheath. This style knife is going to need a pancake or fold over type sheath that stops at the guard and maybe have a strap coming from behind across the guard and down onto the face of the sheath. Plenty of people with more experience than I may chime in, but I think I'm on the right track?
  20. If I am thinking about the same thing..... I got a few from Tandy a few years ago. But, they were on clearance. Have you tried Ohio Travel Bag?
