Check some of the sewing machines in the for sale area on this site. There is a guy who sells many machines out of southern California usually for around 750 (head only) shipping included. Can't remember his user name, but he pops up with 2 or 3 every other month or so. If you can actually go see him I bet you could get even a better deal. I'll see if I can find him real quick.

Excellent idea and execution.

That and his book Leather Tools How to use How to Sharpen. You will gain a wealth of information from just those two. Oh and 3mm chisels may be a bit small for .8 tiger. Try 4mm or at least the 3.85mm.

That looks really good. Nice straight line. Tension looks even as well.

Well you are off to a great start. Welcome aboard.

For what you want to see a consew 206rb should fit the bill. They may have another number behind that name such as a 1 up thru 5. Any would fit the bill. Mine is a 206rb-1. It has no oil pump. But Sewing leather I don't really speed it up enough to have a pump lubricate it. So, the wicking system is a good fit. It also runs the m style larger bobbin mentioned above. Also, I am no expert. I'm just a few years ahead of you on research. I just got mine a few months ago and I still need the speed reducer.

I would guess the top is probably a garment leather with the tool bags being veg tan in fiebings chocolate. Not that they used fiebings, that was part of the suggestion. On the second seat it appears to be a nubuck type leather. But the picture is a little fuzzy. Nubuck is a chrome tanned flesh out style leather used in things like boots. Similar to suede.

Oh, I haven't tried a zipper yet, much less one that goes all the way around. And the idea of tooling a big ole piece of leather is kind of terrifying to me. But, I did at least buy some 6 inch zippers last week.

I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Cool.

It looks awesome. There are several things on this I haven't even dared to think about trying.

Basically, yes. Don't be too jealous. The room is only 8x9. -

Welcome back, Dun. I too am just now getting back to making. We'll relearn together. -
This thread was a good read. Great job guys. I noticed a few days ago that Wuta has some beginners kits on eBay. I have always had good luck with his stuff.

I did some more digging at Goldstar and found that they have adapters to fit their dies to other presses and vice versa. I ordered some bag hardware, swivels, square d rings, and the like. It arrived today and looks pretty nice. It was really inexpensive.

Thanks for the honorable mention, @NVLeatherWorx. I try to pass along what I can. You mentioned coming down to Vegas sometime and that would be awesome, but I don't live there. You may have seen me mention buying a sewing machine from there, but that was a 54 hour hotshot trip from Shreveport, Louisiana. But, who knows where this crazy blue ball will carry us someday.

@NVLeatherWorx, you should copy and paste that post somewhere for the future. It covers a lot of bases for newcomers. To the Op. We all started out with little to go on making things for ourselves, family, and friends. If you are just looking to make some extra money with your first projects then you are not ready to commit to leather crafting. If you want to have some fun while you learn a craft, that could eventually lead to some income, then give it a try.

How to Dilute Pro Dye with water (use Borax)
bikermutt07 replied to Marpy's topic in How Do I Do That?
This is correct according to an email I received from fiebings when I asked the question. Same same. -
Exactly.
-
Ha! Guy from Vegas gave me a mess of em when I bought the cowboy.
-
That is awesome. So glad I could help.

I also have more lighting to hang once I settle in. I have found you can't get too much light.
