  3. Looks like you have a tremendous amount of hours in this one. I've never tooled, so can't be a judge, but I really like the way it came out. YinTx

Only thing left is the edge coating. I have done the first coat, but more to go. Learned a lot on this one. Mainly, that I need more practice!

  7. Made a significant amount of progress yesterday. Still need to finish edging, and made plenty of errors, so pretty much a practice prototype. Stitching on suede I have discovered is difficult, as well as soft chrome tan leather (the pink material). Small stuff, like the stitched chocolate dyed tabs, really highlight inconsistencies. I am wondering, since I used the same thread throughout, and the veg tanned section looks larger than the chrome tanned section, if I should have used different sized threads to try to make it look the same? The topside. I used the same thread on the edging as I did on the chocolate dyed veg tan tab, yet the stitching came out looking like two entirely different sizes of thread. Is it normal to use different sizes in this situation to try to get them to look similar? YinTx

I had a difficult time keeping the back of the stitching straight with the suede. This is the first time I've stitched suede, and only the second time I've used the Barbour linen thread. Both are different to manage than what I am used to. Chalk it up to a practice piece! YinTx

Just put a watch for size reference. The chocolate strap is smaller than a watch strap: maybe I should have used smaller thread? YinTx

Fought with the needle awl and thread some today. Decided to use a linen Barbour thread, a different animal. I think it will come out ok. YinTx

  15. Thank you all kindly. Still working to go neatly around corners, it was difficult on this one, there was a bag stiffener inside. I think I'll avoid using that stuff in the future. YinTx

Robbied, I have been using some nylon webbing! It has worked great, I've been using it for about a month now. It is so much better than the little stitching pony I had. Not the most comfortable thing to sit on for 7 hours at a time, but very functional. YinTx

  20. I wanted to practice hand stitching with my new tools, so I made a guitar strap. It is lined and has about 11 feet of stitching, so plenty of practice! It is the first guitar strap I have made, so please let me know what you think. I still have to put the slots on each end... Finished with the lined and hand stitched guitar strap, using Hermann Oak 3/4 oz leather and pigskin liner per request. A very lightweight guitar strap. 0.6mm Tiger thread. YinTx

  24. Is that crocodile or Caimen Alligator? I have some Caimen, and I am trying to figure out how to finish it, it has a very dull look like a veg tanned leather. How did you finish yours? Thanks, YinTx
