  1. Make it big so hell grow into it. I havnt gotten a oblong punch yet and just use the two hole punch with a chisel method but soon Ill be getting the oblong punch as it makes it easier. Thats all the advice I got lol.
  2. When you say add to the draw I am not fully understanding this. When you are doing a holster like this usually you outline the gun, then take the width of the gun and cut that in half, now add this (half the width) measurement to the stitchline. So basically your stitchline will be the outline of the gun plus half the width of the gun. When you wet form the holster this should make it nice and tight atleast in my limited experience.
  3. The only hardware I use on mine are chicago screws. Other then that unless you need to buy the actually attachment hardware for the rifle itself I am not sure. That would be probably gun supply stores or the manufacturer.
  4. Very nicely done.
  5. Thats one kickass looking strap dude. Great job all around in construction, style, and carving.
  6. Thats what I have used on mine. Not sure if its the best thing to use but I have not had any complaints. Ofcourse I have sold most of the slings on ebay when I got a chance to make one so you usually dont get any good feedback later on down the road. So far I have only lined the portion that is padded that goes over the shoulder. I use 1/8" neoprene covered in the suede. Works pretty good.
  7. Lucky man, thats a nice piece for sure.
  8. Those look really good imo. I really like your choice of leather gives it a very cool look.
  9. Pretty good looking seat. Braiding isnt to bad and overall looks good for your second seat. Be sure to tamp the lacing when your done to smooth it out, I use the mallot for this job. I love the vinegaroon too. Work on your wet molding a little bit to smooth it out some. Depending on what foam is underneath this can be easier said then done. Be sure to practice your tooling as well, you could use a little depth, check out paul barnetts tutorials on tooling, it will help out alot. Overall turned out nice though.
  10. Thats the thing with the bikes you gotta take a look at it or get some measurements and see what will work. For the toolbag I made for a buddies roadking windsheild I used the same design as the fork bag but we made a aluminum bracket that I covered with leather and put some strap loops on it. It worked out pretty good. Be a little inventive and figure out what will work best for the application.
  11. If you can get the motorcycle pattern set from tandy and then you can use that as your basis. Also take a look around here on this section for the bags and see what others have done. There is also a great video someone did Ill have to link to if I can remember where its at. Found it, Ian did it, couldnt remember which motorcycle guru did it lol. Read thru this thread. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14271&st=0&p=87016&hl=tool%20bag&fromsearch=1entry87016
  12. Haha great work Tim. Both projects turned out looking very good.
  13. Great looking case, I would like to see the back as well since IM working on a similer one myself. Excellent stitching.
  14. Great looking belt, dig the belt buckle also.
  15. Great looking knife and sheath, you and your Buddie did a outstanding job with it.
  16. Thats a pretty cool idea. Neat looking design and art work. Good job with it.
  17. I looked hard on google when they came out and the words "Damascus style" just keep glaring at me. Why do they ad style to the word? Everything that I found was chef knives, basically for a medium end knife this was the steel that was used. Everyone of them listed it as Damascus style also instead of just calling it damascus which you would think they would if it was a true to the design. I have no doubt it will cut good when sharp and maybe it will hold a edge for a while which is all ya can ask for I guess. I tell ya one knife I wont ever consider and that is the regular al stohlman brand, I got that thing before I new anything and must say it doesnt hold a edge to save its life.
  18. Yeah if I had a old style revolver that had true blueing or a really old gun with older steel I probably wouldnt but the newer guns are a different story IMO. Besides nothing has happened to it yet so I cant say as Im to worried about it. If it does show signs of rust or anything else Ill be the first to admit to it and kick my own butt lol.
  19. I dont know if the chrome tan guys will ruin guns but the veg tan stuff I have not had any issues with. Now that being said I dont have a standard blue gun you would say. I have my taurus pt145 pro that is stored in its bianchi holster that is vegtan. Ive had it like that for 3 years, its either in the holster put up or IWB in the holster. Now the high points have gradually started to show some wear but I would expect that with any gun that sees use and is not just kept in the dresser all its life.
  20. Good looking work, nicely done with the paints (I assume those are acrylics). Best of all Im sure both of them are gonna see alot of use.
  21. Since this thread started I did end up picking up some of the barbours thread (6 cord). I also got myself some rosin and made a rosin bees wax mix to use. Must say it is a great combo. No more of the ultra waxy stuff that you get prewaxed and the rosin wax mix is a joy to work with. It is just sticky enough to hold everything good and tight when you pull it. The thread lays wonderfully as well. Im finding it hard to use up my prewaxed stuff that I have quiet a bit left of. To anyone that hand sews this is definatly the way to go. A little more time involved but well worth it. Thanks Chuck for the suggestion. Ive started dyeing some of the stuff and it turns out pretty good. Pretty much do exactly what you suggest.
  22. Welcome to the forum. Youve come to the right place to learn alot and further your skill. For your age and Im guessing experience your kicking butt so far. I would try getting the shape to the pan a little better either by wet forming and making sure your padding is shaped well. Tooling looks nicely drawn out and pretty good. Some depth in the tooling will make it really stand out. Looks like ya got the art skills now make sure you hang out here and check out all the info this forum has to offer. Farther down the list is some instruction by paul barnett that will help alot. Lacing looks good to me, make sure if you havnt allready take your maul or whatever and tamp the lacing. This will help it lay down and smooth out. Do this after your finished. Overall looks really good though. Just trying to throw some advice your way that I have picked up here.
  23. Looks good I ecspecially think the oak leaves turned out very well. Good job.
  24. Thanks for the info. Ill probably start doing that also as my schedule doesnt allow for alot of things and keeping the leather wet inbetween casings is one of them. I usually end up trying to do all my tooling at one sitting and sometimes I just dont have the hours to sit and tool at one time period.
  25. Great work and yeah thats cool would make christmas shopping alot easier.
