Beautiful work. -
Great find. The original maker would have surely repaired it as necessary, had he outlived it.

Needle-Feed Cylinder Arm Machines
bullmoosepaddles replied to Ogoki's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@Wizcrafts Above you mentioned a Singer 45k. What is the sewing thickness? If i may ask. There is a 45k25 for sale near me. It is $1200 and comes on a treadle stand. Just curious, I am sure its being sold by a local dealer. I do love some old cast iron. But know I am not always able and willing to sustain it. Thak you. -
How does one find Kevinlee4426, or a list of the available tools? Thank you

@Mjolinir Thank you. I promise to post a picture when we finish the wifes hammer.

I do have a question if you will answer it please. How did you secure the copper in the handle?

You gone and done it now. My wife wants her mallet handle sanded down and me to make strands and braid hers. She can do her own burning. Great job Sir. Beautiful and creative work. Thank you for sharing. I love having customized tools in my shop. Makes them a pleasure to use and shows pride in oneself.

Wizcrafts, Thank you kindly. A short while ago I read the etiquette about using older post. Point taken. Thank you for the help. Hope you have a great day. .

I know this is an older thread. But it came up in the search I did this morning. I have a consew 206-rb. Does the bobbin accept the thicker threads without modification. I wish to sew bonded 138 top and bottom. Making small heavy duty pouches, My wish is to have the thread look identical on both sides. I have been using it with only 69 so far. Thank you for the time and consideration. You guys help the rest of us so much.

Need pyrography help... razertip pen and nibs
bullmoosepaddles replied to monicaj's topic in How Do I Do That?
The misses and I both burn wood. Last year we had the same problem from one of our tips. We took the Colwood unit/tips ect. we own to a local retired engineer who repairs pretty much anything electrical for local craftsmen. His assessment was the handpiece had gone bad and we could buy a new one for less than his hourly rate to rebuild ours. If you have another handpiece and the tip is replaceable try changing to a new handpiece, if it's a fixed tip, then try a new handpiece unit. We clean our tips on course denim while in use and polish them after use when they are cool.- 15 replies

Cuttin' Leather With A Bandsaw
bullmoosepaddles replied to snubbyfan's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
The link listed above has options for blade type: This band knife blade is designed with its “razor-edge” available in straight, scallop or wavy cutting edges and a single or double edge bevel. The Razor-Edge band knife by Starrett is ideal for cutting foam, rubber, cork, cardboard, paper and soft plastic. May I ask which of these is the better blade? -
Dye/stains For Chrome Tanned Leathers
bullmoosepaddles replied to backtobasic's topic in How Do I Do That?
You may want to do a google search on the difference between chrome tanned leather and veg tanned leather. It should also help you to determine which you have and how to best look for what you want in the future. I am sorry not to give you an answer, But veg tanned and chrome tanned leathers are vastly different materials. Veg tanned will usually take both dyes and stains readily. While chrome tanned may accept some sort of shading, but not well due to the fact it has already been dye once. Experiment on a small amount of the material you have and see if you can duplicate the look you want, also make sure it is color fast. after being dyed. -
I like this. Especially the use of snaps for flattening during travel. Great piece. Thank you for sharing.

Oak Leaf Holster
bullmoosepaddles replied to Rohn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I love your work. The old work I did 30 years ago was all Stolman/Sheridan stuff. It speaks to my first impressions of leather work. You offered to answer questions, I have often wondered what you use for lace, and do you cut and make your own? Thank you Sir. -
Rose Head Knife Clean Up And Repair
bullmoosepaddles replied to Oldtoolsniper's topic in Leather Tools
Oldtoolsniper, Thank you. I do have the tools from years of woodworking. Its just I have read articles where one person seems to have the idea that an old oval or round makers mark are better than the others. I wanted to try to buy the best rehab I could. This will not be a business venture. I want a few good ones for myself. After that I am done. If I need advice I will certainly ask. Your reworks are things of beauty.- 23 replies

Rose Head Knife Clean Up And Repair
bullmoosepaddles replied to Oldtoolsniper's topic in Leather Tools
Several of you folks have mentioned restoring old tools. How is it you know how to tell the difference between more and less desirable Osborne knives? I wish to try this for myself and while I understand there is a learning curve, I would rather rework a knife that will give me better service than the Tandy model I currently on.- 23 replies

Rotary Blade Sharpener - Does It Work?
bullmoosepaddles replied to kjcreamer's topic in Leather Tools
I had one, like was said above. It is marginal. I use a rotary one like listed below. I does good job for me http://www.staples.com/Orbital-Rotary-Blade-Sharpener/product_291202?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:291202&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=291202&KPID=291202&gclid=Cj0KEQjwg9-vBRCK7L7wmO2u0JcBEiQA_tzoaDyp0qZx_A6I3CccYcC5peQUztJEH_plbF0iZ59z00gaAjzJ8P8HAQ&kpid=291202 Good luck -
What Is The Point Of A Head/round Knife?
bullmoosepaddles replied to Windrider30's topic in How Do I Do That?
@RStevenson I know this is a step away from the original question. But I sharpen my rotary knife blades on one of these. It holds up well and I have been using the original 5 blade pack I bought for over 5 years now. I have a head knife. If nothing else this discussion has lead me to the point of sharpening it, getting over the fear and using it. The Stanley is becoming frustrating as I find myself with more work and less time. The one inch cut is impressive I just trimmed some 3/8" thick glue ups last night. The Stanley sucked at keeping straight edges. Thank you all for an interesting read. http://www.staples.com/Orbital-Rotary-Blade-Sharpener/product_291202?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:291202&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=291202&KPID=291202&gclid=Cj0KEQjwvdSvBRDahavi3KPGrvUBEiQATZ9v0IZl1sqZQMgPqK-V8h59VcwtoVHpnpoDIQE1diuMeg8aAu_W8P8HAQ&kpid=291202 -
I have a 4 inch model. If you can sharpen the blade it works great on small projects. We use it to pare down the thickness of straps. So it works great for us. But it will need sharpening out of the box. That I assure you.

Alcohol/spirit Lamp/burner For Heating Leather Crease Tools?
bullmoosepaddles replied to Tannin's topic in Leather Tools
LumpenDoodle2, It must be time I learned this. I, by chance, ran across another thread on using electronic soldering irons as creasers yesterday. I now have a much better understanding. Thank you kindly for your reply.
