  1. Here is my second floral pattern that I designed for a thermos water bottle for my niece. I will be designing one for my sister's matching bottle. Any critiques are welcome!
  2. thanks for the comments. I will be posting another one up here soon.
  3. I thought about that and may have to relook at the design again. There will be a fold at the single flower in the center. thanks.

  5. One of my big adventures for 2010 is to teach myself how to design my own patterns. After much research and reading, I decided to venture out and give it a try. A few days later, this is what I came up with. It is rough looking, but I have a ways to go. BTW, this is a pattern for an eyeglass case for the other half. Thanks for any pointers!
  6. Wow...First I am sorry you had some problems at the end of this project. I know first hand how frustrating it can be. I haven't tried to airbrush any dye though I have one. I am still trying to learn how to hand dye my stuff. Better master one then be a loser at two. I know that one of the things that work for me, others may disagree, but for me. I will wringe out a wet sponge and wipe the leather that I am about to dye or finish coat. As the color disappears, I will begin to apply the dye with a piece of sheeps wools in a pattern and even. I will allow it to set in for up to 30 minutes before I judge my try at dyeing. Now, I have to admit that I have tried this the last 2-3 times and it has worked out so far. Better than what my results were before this process. good luck.
  7. I'll chime in and I may be wrong, but it appears that the seedpod is embossed? As for the center, Storm suggested some good tools to use. I use the E294 a lot and really like it. I haven't used the one on the upper left though. Good luck
  8. Okay, I am a little confused. What streaked? The "dye" or the Super Sheen?
  9. Larry Good work for your first time. Don't worry about your tooling sequence at this time. Pay more attention to your swivel knife work. That is where your gold is. Send me your email address again in a PM and I will forward you some reading material to help you understand the sequence. It is something we used when we put on our Basic Floral Carving class through our leather guild. Note: As long as "she" is happy, that's all that counts!
  10. Beautiful work. You are catching that designing stuff quickly. Thanks for sharing!
  11. How wet is your leather? I keep my leather wet (darker). After applying water, I allow it to sit about 5-10 minutes. I do what TimD suggests everytime. I always get a good impression unless parts of the leather did not take water well. Good luck

  19. Just a note. The closer you get to the belly the more stretch you will get. For belts and holders, I like to stick with the upper portion of the hide, towards the back. Shoulders are okay for me. I have seen a lot of stretch marks aroudn the shoulder. But then again, I like these characteristics, especially, when they are finished. It adds a nice texture. I have bought my hides from Stevenson Paxton at $99 a side and I have yet to be dissatisfied with S&P leather in Corona, CA. Now, I have also bought some of Springfield Leather (special listed in the banner above) Hermann Oak, cost a bit more, but great customer service. Good luck
