  1. I send you a box load of my stamps. I'll even deliver them to the big city of B-net!!
  2. That is really beautiful belt. He should be proud to wear it.
  3. I do like the design concept for Al's site. It is very.........leathery.
  4. Denise, I think your point is well taken and described well here in your response, BUT.....we all have to be adults here and take responsibility for our actions. I have been involved in this forum not only as a lurker, but as a participant and I have seen some predatory threads viewing one side or another. I make the decision not to become involved in these discussions and others need to think about what they think of others before they post their responses. Do as most people here do, ignore them and move on to the next thread. Either way, what I like best about this forum is that it is an 'open' form. People usually post what they have learned and at times what they would like to share and yes sometimes what they think of others. I just want to learn and share. I don't care about attacks, personal or physical; been there done that. Can't we all just get along? I guess it is just what it is. What is more important is how you take it. Side note: In regards to the identification of specific individuals that attack; I disagree about the identification (I am sure glad I live in America) I will not allow these individuals (actual words used was deleted) the glory they think they deserve by identifying them. I believe it is an attribute of the high level of restraint that I have not to do such thing. My response is just to point out that I am aware of what they said. It just happened to me this month regarding a picture I posted here regarding one of my very, very few commissions. It was not my design, but another person, yet I got attacked?? I don't know if it was because I posted the picture or did the commission. Go figure. But I turned the cheek and drove on. I did remove the picture so as not continue the fight. Not worth my next breath to continue a useless battle. So, John, my wall is always available to you or anyone else that feels attacked!
  5. I checked out one of the listed site and found several buttons not working? Do you build them and the owner maintains it? Just checking. I cannot stand when a site has broken links links.
  6. I went to Google image and type in this 'wild boar line art' Plenty of design if those who have responsed didn't give you your fill. Good luck.
  7. Just show us what you learned by coming back to post your pictures. I know that it will turn out awesome and something that your wife will be proud of. I just completed another clutch this weekend, hope to post some pixs before she comes to get it (wife's friend). I did go with the old scroll pattern and Chaylor Fennell inside. Good luck.
  8. I have purchased that stuff at the office supply store and it is not the same. The vellum is about 2.1 mm where as the stuff that I would like and gave to Pete was more like 3.2 mm. Plus, the stuff at the office supply will most likely not withstand any with water. I asked the store employee and they didn't know what I was talking about. Right now, I really like the stuff that I get at Hide crafter and the big plus is that I can print or copy a pattern off my scanner/printer. For now, I will stick with this until I achieve success with my dream paper. I am sure that there are some if not many professional makers here that do use the heavier drafting vellum, but again they buy it in a bulk roll or because the buy so much they cannot remember the last time they bought it. I did remember meeting a saddle maker at the boot and saddle shop who uses the thicker drafting vellum for making not only their patterns, but drawing their patterns. The problem with Tandy's stuff is that it is too thin. Nothing against Tandy, but the market they cater to is where I was when I started. As we all progress we seek to find the better tools, better leather and now better drawing tools. Interesting point: My Arichtect friend asked me why I do not use a drawing/drafting program to do my project. I have thought about doing some thing like this, but I am just a hobbyist who has sold about as many products as I have fingers on one hand. I usually give my stuff away or for a very low cost. I am considering going to a CAD technical program through the local college just to develop some skills to do this down the line, but not right now. But thanks.
  9. Do a search in the 'for sale' section and I want to say that there were at least two other members on here who were selling entire collections. I do not know if they are interested in breaking them up. Have you checked the LCSJ site for back issue availability? Good luck.
  10. I know that you ordered yours already, but I have 3 different size stamps and they all came from Brenda at Laser Gift Creations here in Texas. She is a member here on the forum and sells her stamps for $35 plus shipping. No artwork cost involved. She laser cuts the stamps and uses Delrin. The smallest stamp she made me was 3/4" and the largest is 1 1/4" for the clarity. All of my stamps are either words up to words and art work. I absolutely love them. Crisp, clean and right now. at the beginning, I purchased a stamp from Phillips Engraving, but I believe I have that one in a drawer since I get better mark from the Delrin. Now, from what I heard you will not go wrong with Grey Ghost. I also believe that YakLady also has the capability to laser cut Delrin stamps, but you will have to check. If I was in business, I would probably go with Harper's because I have seen them in person and they look awesome. But as a hobbyist, I will stick with what I have for now. Good luck.
  11. Kevin I called an Architect friend of my in California. He gave me his distributor to do some checking. He was telling me that they sell it with borders, non borders, grid lines, etc. He suggested for my craft that I consider 20,000 of an inch. Will hold up and last. I told him that the word I hear is that you have to buy 200 yard rolls....out of my cost range and that would probably last a life time. Now, if you buy 200 yards and sell it in 10 yard rolls, I think you would not be able to hang on to it. Let me check it out and forward you any information. thanks for being an awesome retailer/supplier.
  12. If you in for just information, you can go to our leather guild website and send our webmaster a message. Tell him I sent you and that you want information only. BTW he does web designing, but he is a wealth of knowledge and he also does leathercraft as a hobby. I believe he is a 1st leather resident. or You can do a web-by the following www.1and1.com and take a gander. you might find what you are looking for. Later.
  13. I had scheduled to complete my collection by buying most of Allan S. collection, but then Christmas and kids showed up. I was able to purchase one load, but by all means contact Allan on here for this remainding stock. His place is ALS leathercraft and he is a member here. Good luck hunting.
  14. I say screw'em if they can't take a joke. Everyone needs to just take a break and worry about their own problems. This is a forum, and by its definition, it an open discussion area (within the guidelines we agree to). Not everyone learned everything about this craft from one person and it probably will never happen. One thing is for sure, there will be MANY who will stand out in our beloved craft and yes some will make notable history, such as Al Stohlman. I had the pleasure of having a conversation in great lengths with Al & Ann Stohlman 'handler' while he worked for Tandy many, many years ago. I learned many things about Mr. Stohlman from this person, as well as, Mrs. Stohlman. A plain fact was that he loved to teach and create, which is why some of the industry leaders created the coveted Stohlman Award, for those that give to this craft because they love it, not because she seek riches. Another interesting note, is that close to his end, Mr. Stohlman was quoted as saying the he was a little sad as he aged because he had enough information to fill 30 more books that he wanted to write so others like myself could learn and build my skills. Here is a man that was getting older and all he could think of was the knowledge he still had and wanted desperately to share with others. Wow! As for Mrs. Ann Stohlman, I can only repeat the words of her lovely husband and teacher. She was described as the 'best' student. I do feel some sadness myself, it was only because of an almost life ending incident that brought me to this craft, 30 years too late. I have had many hobbys in my life and I do not believe I have met so many wonderful and thoroughly dedicated fellow artisans as in leathercraft. A craft that was and in some instances still secreative (to a certain) extent, we find ourselves in a group of enthusists who love their craft and are willing to share. Yes, I have found some artisans who found me intrusive when I show some interest in their work and started my merage of questions. I soon found myself backing off and leaving well enough alone. Someone asked me recently why I enjoy giving or sending things to others beginning this craft (and other who are involved already) and expect nothing in return. I think it is my way of giving back to this craft. Even though I have been in this craft in such a short time. So, John, if you run out wall space as you go along; come over to my wall and do your thing. Speak your mind, of course.....man get your mind out of the gutter guys. Lighten up, live long! So, Git R' Done!
  15. Luis Paulo Keep it up......Ben Moody once said that best idea to get better is to practice, practice, practice. Sign and date that piece and put it away. Do not look at it again until 6 months from now, then 1 year now and so on. You will see the different every time. Good luck.
  16. Very nice gifts! I really like the 'Carlos' border around your maker stamp. Very.....hummmmm....Professional! Yea, that's the word I was looking for. Have a great night!
  17. Send it to someone like 'Hidepounder,' YakLady, Big Papa, etc. Just kidding. Exactly what was already said.
  18. Google: Buckaroo gear. I was doing some research yesterday on Vintage Vaquero Tooled saddles and found some gear that look a lot like this. Of course, some braiders on here may chime in.
  19. Do according to the advice you get here, on the streets, your own testing/demos and projects. Isn't this place awesome. Good luck.
  20. try to find a large lid, like a coffee can, veg jar, etc. Use it as a template and cut slowly and carefully. I use those folding box cutting knifes from Harbor Frieght and strop the blade before and after use. Also, with a lot of practice, you can also use a 'head' knife to make a clean cut. good luck
  21. Let me look in my file cabinet. Project #1: I made some little 'chaps' out of some scrap chrome tan and used a single ruby color spot where the buckle would be. Down each side of the 'chaps' I placed small chrome/gold spots for bling. I purchased some lapel pins from Hobby Lobby and glued them to the back for the women receipients. For the guys that received these, it was outfitted for a scarf. It was really simple, very low cost and highly regarded by the receipients. Less than $5 bucks to make and within an hour of my time each. Project #2: One of the guild project that I did for the members was a vest cover key chain made out veg tan for a small bottle of hand sanitizer. It is quick and easy. A small piece of veg tan, two rivets, one line 20 snap, one key ring and a small bottle of sanitizer. Send me your email via a PM and I can forward the pattern when I find it. Good luck.
  22. PM your email and I will send you the actual drawing pattern instead of you trying to do it yourself. No need to try it. As for the magnets??? I have never used them. The wife wanted a snap so it would not come loose on its own. Her purse, her decision. Later.
  23. Oh yea, almost forgot. before you glue the two together, conduct a semi dry run on how much stuff your wife will carry to determine where you are going to have your magnets set up. don't do like I did....with my wife's purse, she grew out of it as soon as she moved it. I would have set the snap back a bit had I thought of this before. Learn from my mistakes. Once you are glued together, before you lace or sew, do another semi dry run to make sure. Okay...good luck.
  24. that's it. It is place in storage and in brand new condition. I would consider selling it to you for your research if you are interested. PM me.
