  1. Rubber cement/Tanner's Bond type stuff works reeeeally well. I'd imagine it would hold pretty well and for a long time. I'd do it before dying it. Maybe a stitch or two could be used without detracting from the piece as well, a talking point perhaps? It'd all depend on the customer I suppose.
  2. That's a tough question. I'd suggest doing some Googling and see what the range is and go somewhere in there. I think I saw one with a loose handle for $160 the other day. If that one is good and tight, I'd guess a little north of that perhaps?
  3. Careful what you take for that....Rose's command a bit of cash.
  4. I picked up an old iron and painted it so it wouldn't discolor the leather and I use it as a heavy weight to hold down my tooling. I also glued a piece of leather to the bottom for good measure. I think it was $6 at the antique store.
  5. Yeah, it all comes down to how one gets to Carnegie Hall. Also, watch a ton of YouTube, Johann Portgeiter is great for stamping and he isn't a perfectionist and his stuff still looks super cool.
  6. I just made a fold over sheath and instead of making a loop that runs like a "normal" sheath, I made a strap like in the pic. This allows you you scout carry for either strong or weak side. It is actually pretty comfortable when worn in the small of the back. Make it wet formed and most knives shouldn't even need a retaining strap.
  7. You know, I bet you could "persuade" that to look a little more joined with some love from a modeling spoon on those little bits where they connect. Soooo close though!
  8. Yeah, that is a pickle. I think it came out ok. Do you have any pics without the ruler in them?
  9. I feel similarly and hope that perhaps since the OP does have some pretty interesting looks to their wallets that they'll actually interact more though.
  10. Good for you both @OLDNSLOW. I reeeeeally wanted to find a way to make it happen for me. Glad someone put me out of my misery
  11. That is Serge Volken, a.k.a. Bigfoot! Check him out on YT, he is good to learn from. I think Mike is the middle one in the 5th pic down.
  12. Clean as a whistle! I really like the natural leather and the red thread, it works well.
  13. I think it looks pretty good. I tried molding some tooled leather once and it didn't look like that when I finished
  14. I ordered one of the 2 lb rawhide mauls from them just the other day.
  15. That looks great! Whatever finish you used looks really nice!
  16. That looked super fun and intimidating. All that leathery talent all in one place. Her tiger she made you is incredible Mike.
  17. None of my edgers round my edges so I end up with that profile to them until I sand them down. I basically have to sand down the roofline in that pic to get mine round. Well, there are two rooflines really, that need sanding since the edger take of the roofline above and replaces it with two. I'm confusing myself now.
  18. I sand after I bevel. Sometimes the beveler leaves a bit of an edge so I end up with a mastaba kind of shape so I either use a belt sander or an orbital sander, depending on size of the object, and work them that way. Then I slick them and then dye them usually. Every once in a while I dye before slicking.
  19. Yeah, I agree, really nice job on the carving!
  20. The knife looks really cool man. That is on my to-do list, make knives. You can add a dangler to that, just get something to act as a link whether it is leather or a wide ring or something. Your sheath is very usable, just mod it. I love the way a dangler carries, either that or scout carry. Did you make it with a welt?
  21. I got nothing. Have you tried searching in Youtube to see if anyone else is doing it and the result they are getting?
  22. Oh man, you gotta show us the blade! Advice wise, it looks pretty good, maybe some more detailed pics and I can criticize better. Your stitches look a little wide and I'm always nervous of retaining loops that high up because the blade can fall out.
  23. I use a wing divider to make my stitch line an appropiate distance of my edge given the thickness of my leather. I then mark my holes with pricking irons or an overstitch wheel, then I poke my holes with a rediculously sharp diamond awl. I usually use 3/4 oz veg tan or higher but have use 2/3 oz chrome before with decent success. You got any pics? We may be able to help with some more detail.
