  1. Ditto to just about everything already said. I admire your spacing.
  2. I never would've thought of doing it that way but I'm glad you did, it looks really cool and the work is neat as well.
  3. Yeah, that is really nice work! The double border is striking. Well done!
  4. I bought Nigel's wallet pattern pack. It isn't patterns though, but a comprehensive guide with measurements on how to make your own. It is great, in my opinion. It takes you to the well, it's up to you to drink and how deep. I'd go as far as to say with some tweaking and a lot of experimenting, it could even show you how to dig your own wells.
  5. @JazzBass, what do you mean by stitch then? Are you asking about slanted stitching holes vs round holes vs diamond holes laying in the direction of the groove/stitch line vs diamond holes laying perpendicular to the groove/stitch line? Admittedly, I'm suddenly confused about what we were talking about. If you are asking about slanted holes, it is for both strength and aesthetics. If you weren't talking about that, I don't think I was picking up what you were putting down.
  6. Look at page 10 of Stohlman though. slanted holes are "right". He isn't stressing straight stitching at all, unless I'm misunderstanding what we're meaning when we say "stitching".
  7. Pulled this straight from JLS's cutesy page, under the "My Bio" section. I thought that the slants were for strength as well and I also thought, for whatever reason, maybe I heard/read it somehwere, that the slant is "English Saddle Stitching". You actually perform the stitch with a pinky lifted in the air
  8. You named a few. There are several posters on here I lump into this category. Not gonna go fanboy on them though but they range from prolific posters to relatively quiet in comparison but all add a good amount of things for me to think about and it all helps me get better.
  9. Aww man, that is tough to hear. They are/were beautiful for sure.
  10. Welcome @SilverForgeStudio. I've been at this for 3 or 4 years now and still contribute to the baby step humor/happy fun time/why did he do that compendium here. Luckily, there are many good folks here that will actually help you take the next step without mocking you in the open forum. There are some world class leather workers here as well. It's funny that novices like a lot of us are able to share the same pages as some of the world's best. I look forward to seeing you progress! Also, the wisdom passed down from @NVLeatherWorx to @bikermutt07 and now to you is pretty invaluable. I took their advice and it cured my stitching inconsistencies I had been struggling with just reading and watching youtube videos. I recommend it. You can see improvement from piece 1 to piece 10.
  11. That is where the magic goes into the recipe....
  12. I may find a different festival to go to but I will price my stuff before I leave the house and hold to it regardless of competitors crap. If nothing else, people can see my wares and take a card for future business.
  13. I use an app called pic resizer that makes quick work of it. @bikermutt07 turned me onto it and it works great.
  14. What leather is that? It looks a little strange and that may be where you are getting the difficulty from.
  15. Way to keep that teensy splash of leather in the shot Is that your wallet?
  16. Funny you bring this up @JLSleather, I was at a festival in TN yesterday and there were a few tables set up selling "genuine leather" stuff, a few belts and bracelets with some beads and metal placards with "belief" or "Faith" or "Love" or "journey" or what have you. They were asking $20.... All of it was clearly mass produced China made trash. Up until then I was thinking about making stuff for the next year and then getting a spot at that festival but how do you compete with crap? I could make and sell real stuff for $20 that would blow that junk away. But by offering superior quality goods for the same price, I feel like that cheapens my work, while upping my price to account for the crap the other vendor is selling just feels wrong too. Am I seeing that right? The leather market is odd. I don't even want to offer my stuff up for purchase there now if the vendors I'd be competing against for the $ would be selling Chinese junk for similar prices. Maybe I should just try it and see but it feels like I'd be selling myself and my stuff short somehow.
  17. Yep, those are cloth. You can find info here on the forum and also on youtube. It's pretty ingenious. A lot of discussion on whether you even need to sew the ribbon or just use glue has been had. Personally, if/when I try it, I'm going to sew and glue.
  18. Great, now I need to start buying liquor by the case. Woe is me
  19. Hello and welcome @Daviddm.
