New Clock face for an old clock
battlemunky replied to corkscrew's topic in Furniture: Inlays and Upholstery
Thanks @corkscrew! -
Uhm, gross. I'm just spit balling here but I wonder if you hosed it down and scrubbed it with a brush and some saddle soap and then oiled it if that would do something to displace the rat pee smell. Sunlight may help some too but will likely darken the leather too. Maybe using Sno-Seal or NFO/beeswax and just stuff it and stuff it and stuff it will force out the pee? I dunno. I want to see if anyone has any other ideas.

I've had this happen myself. I think it is just something that happens and is either extremely hard to control 100% or impossible. Sometimes dying is just inconsistent.

I can't see that because facebook. I tried a direct search in YT for "antique brass look on leather" and didn't see anything -
That looks really well done @Gabriel Rasa.

Cleaning leather of dirt and grim? Best recipe?
battlemunky replied to Jarednem's topic in How Do I Do That?
I'd use Dawn, sure. Good enough to clean crude off ducks and otters, should work on a book thingy. -
Agreed wholeheartedly.

I'm 3 hrs from you @OLDNSLOW but I neither have the $ or the desire to machine sew stuff at this point. I am saddened to know another leatherworker won't be in the trade anymore but I respect your decision to get out.

@gengado, you are an inspiration my friend. I've been at this for a few years and it took me a long time to attempt a wallet and it look as good as yours with a good amount of experience. Don't beat yourself up! What you are doing looks pretty good and will likely last for a long time even though it is a bit rough around the edges. Keep at it!

Looks neat and clean! -
There is a dude on YT named Johann Portgeiter that has a ton of useful stuff and doesn't charge a dime. I appreciate him quite often.

I have several old pre-lettered Craftool stamps and they are pretty good back then. I'm assuming Craftool was Tandy back then.

I just ordered one of the 2 lb rawhide ones. Thanks for posting that link. Allllmost grabbed a BK maul. I like the idea of rawhide a bit better than pol, especially since my poly one just chipped.

Business card holder.
battlemunky replied to Mattsbagger's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That is classy as all get out. Looks perfect @Mattsbagger. -
I only have one of those cheap $15 mauls myself and it is pretty poor IMO. It is clackety and it chipped when I was using it last night. The handle is off center so it schifts. I have never heard this about the Barry King mauls. I imagine that is why the cheap ones are $15 bucks and the BKs cost what they do.

Sleighbell Door Hanger Template?
battlemunky replied to superpacker's topic in Patterns and Templates
I think Tandy has a template in the Leathercraft Library. May even be free? -

Super cool, I can't wait to see the belt too. That looks as badass as it should. -
WIP. The first attempt to emboss the human face
battlemunky replied to ABHandmade's topic in Figure Carving
Pretty damned awesome yet again @ABHandmade. -
I'm thinking that since the colors in the lid are the colors of the paint on the exteriors of the case that the blue and the green is paint. They likely painted a bit larger of an area that they knew would show through the window on the section on the inside and then painted the rest with the exterior colors they chose. My guess anyhow.
