  1. Yeah, that is quite striking dye work. I am thinking a brush was used as well. No indecisiveness, just load it and go with confidence and whatever comes out of the brush is what you get and that particular "get" is really nice, and the finish on it does it complete justice. I want to dye like that when I grow up!
  2. If you search "casing" you will get a load of info and techniques as well. A general guideline though is to spray it or sponge water on and let it sit until is soaks in and then with the back of your hand it should be cool to the touch.
  3. I think they look great and I love the color choice of the leather!
  4. Also, there are Craftaids with woodgrain that you just press into the work and voila, instant woodgrain. The one I have isn't very big though.
  5. Really good work yet again Ryan! I picked up some bison remnants and I didn't like it for making wallets. I totally see where they'd make a good garment or bag though being pretty soft temper and all.
  6. That looks great. I have triweave on my list of things to learn. I'll check out youtube for the instruction.
  7. Pretty cool design and I think it looks great both in the light and in the dark. Good to know about the 10 year life on the glow paint as well. That holster will be alive far longer than the paint.
  8. I can see why....that is a game changer. Looks great and the creativity is really cool.
  9. I would'nt feel too bad about it looking "washed out" I think it looks great and the welt looks good tucked down in there like that.
  10. you can resize them and they'll post just fine. Took me a while to get the knack of pic posting. Welcome to the forum!
  11. Pretty cool! Sadie says to pack it full, she'll figure out what to do with them!
  12. I wish I had some advice to share but I'm gonna have to sit back and hope alongside you for a solution. There are tons of knowledge and years of experience on here so if there is an answer I'm sure it'll come along shortly. Sucks to hear that it happened in the first place What a pain.
  13. That is great! I think all the colors compliment each other and the work is really clean! Your nephew will be thrilled I'm sure! The hop looks pretty cool as well.
  14. That looks really cool. You can probably use that sheath still even and just add a welt to it. Did you glue/cement them together?
  15. Lee Marvin was a Marine. As accomplished as he was as an actor, he opted to be remembered as a jarhead on his headstone. I think that is pretty cool. Could've afforded a huge fancy headstone, etc., but went for the VA provided headstone.
  16. That'll do for sure. Corners can be kept sharp, no need to round them. For a class, those should be fine, no need to get crazy technical about it until/if an interest to do more is shown.
  17. I too get a bit edgy seeing 1911s cocked and holstered but I am mainly ignorant to them. Regarding the OP's work, it is really nice. Is that double stitched or some fat thread? Also, those hidden loops are really nice. I don't know if I've seen them before but it adds a different bit of flash to a holster.
  18. Agreed. That is why I felt so bad. My dog-nephew got this really solid gift from his people-uncle and it messed him up. He's all healed up like nothing ever happened and we know he can't have veg-tan directly on him.
  19. Oh yeah man, that is great looking work! My brother is a corrections officer....I need one of his badges.....
  20. Agreed, looks ok to me, especially for a first piece! Oscar has to feel special! I made a collar for my sister's dog and it turned out to be allergic to veg-tan It tore his neck up and all the hair fell out and was raw. I felt horrible although it was no fault of mine.
  21. That is a bolt head @kiwican. I guess a nut could get a similar result but it's inside and outside diameters will be pretty thick where the bolt head is far thinner. Just something to keep in mind depending on what your honeycomb looks like in your mind
  22. And go with a small hole punch for the stitching holes. Diamond awls are about the most dangerous thing in my shop and I get bitten from time to time with a few years of experience. A small hole punch will be far safer, IMO. Since you will be lacing, maybe you could grab a set of diamond chisels along with the lacing chisels. Your progression seems pretty good, there is no wrong way and you have it set up for crawling before walking.
  23. I have nothing to add to help with your questions but those are adorable little pouches. I could see those selling well when you are happy with them.
