  1. You had me with the gold Vader skull. Shop = complete.
  2. Yin, that looks pretty terrific man! Well done. I haven't made it even close to that and I need to throw some time at it, time I don't have lately.
  3. I have been trying Tan-Kote for resisting and not having much luck. It barely resists against Eco-Flo Saddle Tan antique gel. I'm going to give the Mop n Glo a shot on the next piece I do.
  4. I started one a month ago and am still super resistant to it. I just can't seem to embrace it.
  5. I'd say that worked out damn well. I picked up a bottle of mop and glo a while back but have yet to try it but I'm going to soon.
  6. That is a gorgeous piece of work! I can't help but wonder what they will be wearing for pants though.
  7. I think with practice you'll get a lot of the issues figured out. Smoothing is the first word that came to mind when I saw it though. I'm still a fledgling at carving so I can only really help a little in saying that casing and a sharp knife are key to crisp tooling work.
  8. See, I would have way over stamped the background.... You sir, did not. I think that looks great. How thick is it in total, two layers of 8 oz summing to 16 or around there? It's a beast and looks great. I have one in work awaiting thread, it's my first so I'm just keeping it simple with a belt and a liner.
  9. Sheathes look great but I'm totally digging the rasp knife.
  10. Those are super cool and they look solid. I got nothing new to add other than what folks have already said. Try making or getting into some carpentry groups on Facebook to get the word out too. I loathe social media but made a profile specifically for pushing my stuff, not that I've gotten around to making it function yet...
  11. I was just thinking about how may hands would be protesting with all the backgrounding. Gotta take it in small bites! Looks good
  12. With that list of problems, it had to have been that hornets nest inside her keeping her going. Sucks for her but glad you're getting your kid back home @Mattsbagger. My son joined the Navy a year and a few months ago and I miss that shithead everyday! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for some nice and mild medical disqualifiers...
  13. I need to get a laser cutter. Really nice looking work @andrewsejlv!
  14. Good to know, I think Mrs. Munky is on the list, I know I've seen Joann coupons before. Thanks for drawing my attention to it!
  15. If you are looking to compete with "Made in China" type goods, you need bulk buys, automation, cheap labor, a political system that allows you to get away with all sorts of things. Here in America you can't compete with China, so most of us here don't and I can't speak for the rest of the markets. Many of us opt to go higher end and higher quality and try and support a niche. I don't know if too many local leather shops are competing with big retailers and Chinese made items, it is hard to price that low and make anything other than a heart attack and/or a broken life.
  16. That looks great! I just made my first one earlier today and they are pretty fun and a really simple design. I hand sew too and it is a pretty good amount of sewing on the fingers and hands so I too couldn't imagine doing that trim work without a machine. I need to makes some of those finger tip gloves....
  17. Yep, now imagine if I could see! One day I'll actually make more than one nice thing in a row! I really want an Ott Lite but The Ott family seems to be really proud of their stuff. I've watched a few reviews and it seems like phenomenal lighting though. I may have to get one of those LED light bars you mention and see how it goes. Chuck Dorset (with Weaver Leather Supply) has a video of a few of those aluminum bell clamp lights with some opaque diffusing material over them for stamping. Those can be had for about $20 so I may add them on with the LED light bar.
  18. Semper Fi Jo! He's certainly gonna be glad to see his momma. And cheeseburgers. They had a Burger King right down from 2nd Battalion chow hall when I was there back in '94. If the wind was blowing the wrong way, we could smell it. We dreamed of cheeseburgers. Not until graduation day did we ever see the BK though. We missed our mommas too
  19. Updating. I added a backstop so I could move stuff from my benchtop and gain back working area. I need to get my lighting squared away. I have a clamp light and a desk lamp along with light from the windows but it ain't near enough. I moved all my thread up onto some PVC pipe and ran that along the span of the width of the bench.
  20. I love the crazing on the leather. Your design looks really clean as well. A lot of character and still retains a clean look, well done....again!
  21. I opted for Leathergoods when I made my name so I guess Leatherworks would work. Not sure if there is a right or wrong. English is too difficult which is why I went for engineering!
