Tool Case
battlemunky replied to arrudad's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That is really nice. I hope the Woodpecker can last as long as it does. Ridiculously classy pants for the Woodpecker -
....I usually end up carrying it like a newborn. My fingers are too big depending on the idiotically small handle on the growler. I should just make a growler/squealer hauler.

AM Leathercraft is where I got mine. He is out of Vietnam and his prices are fair. Shipping is a bit slow so if you need it in a hurry, he may not be for you but his work is good to go and he is a great person to deal with as well.

Anyone Read Don Gonzales's Floral Design eBook?
battlemunky replied to GatoGordo's topic in Resources
I have one of Don's freebie floral patterns and it is pretty good at illustrating flow. If his book is even close it'd be worth the $20 methinks. I'm a bit of a fanboy though, I really appreciate Don's YT channel and the way he teaches. I can see background because of that guy. That is a gift I picked up for free from watching his videos. I'm similarly gun shy about paying for instruction online. There are few names I trust and I still like to try and glean what I can from their free stuff. It usually takes a good bit of interest on my part to pry the electrons from my paypal account. -
Another cool growler holder man! I didn't notice it before but that pike border with the interlaced pikes being antiqued vs dyed is pretty neat. How'd you pull that off?

Triweave Belt, Black OVER Tan
battlemunky replied to Albob's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Wow. That pops! I just watched Serge Volken's 7th youtube video where he does a similar thing. He uses a block to go over the top similar to your sponging it on. Yours happens in a bit different in order and looks like all dye, his was dye and acrylic. I think it looks great man, good job! -
Wallet with coin pocket
battlemunky replied to ABHandmade's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
There is so much to love about this wallet @ABHandmade! It looks perfect but the thing that gets me and has had me curious for years is the bark on the tree.....how do you do it? I've been trying to figure out a way to make some sort of stamp, never thought of carving it or anything. -
Yep, ^^^^^is exactly what I do. Strategic clamping. Not a lot that can hurt the work inside the pony and the leather should be able to bend a good amount without issue.
-
I've done both ways. I always just figured it was a PITA and that it is just dealt with using a pony/clamp/clamps/clips or some sort.

Sheath for my bowie
battlemunky replied to Albob's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That is totally the knife Mick Dundee dreams of in the "THIS is a knife" scene from Crocodile Dundee. Mighty fine looking pig sticker. -

Edges - Alcohol/Oil dyes and Resolene/Sealers
battlemunky replied to samNZJP's topic in How Do I Do That?
Super not the same @samNZJP. Use sanding as your prep before slicking; try and get the edges as close to where you want them with sandpaper (150 grit, 300 grit, 600 grit is probably good, 1,000 grit with almost slick it on its own) Then use gum trag/tokonole/water as your slicking agent/agents. these are similar to one another Then dye your edges. Then use resolene/mop & glo/tan kote/etc as your last step to seal the edge after the slicking is done. these are similar to one another Also, I made the assumption that you are doing most of the work by hand as well. I have no idea how well the stuff I've said will work with machines. I only do the really rough sanding with a belt sander, the rest is by hand. Should be similar but machines can generate some heat which is a variable I haven't messed with yet. -
Gettin there Mutt!

Edges - Alcohol/Oil dyes and Resolene/Sealers
battlemunky replied to samNZJP's topic in How Do I Do That?
I think real edges look better than painted edges most often. I've seen really nice painted edges but I've seen a lot more really nice real edges.I think that a similar amount of work goes into both of them in order to get them nice so the paint is just adding another ingredient/treatment. Its a to each their own kinda thing. I have gotten to where I trim and sand my edges and then slick them with water (using a cocobolo or antler as a slicker), then gum trag (I think tokonole is really similar to gum trag), and then buff with some denim, t-shirt, or canvas, whatever is laying around, and then I'll dye them with whatever color of Fiebings Pro dye I feel is right for the piece. If you step up through a few grits of sandpaper and get the edge nice and smooth, it almost takes care of itself. Then I'll use some beeswax to seal it. I only have a little of the not Pro Dye left and because of that Weaver video have begun to phase it out and am going strictly with Pro dye. -
Another Stohlman floral HW75 pnuematic airgun and F1 sheath

Looks good Plink! -
Yeah, I would like to echo the awl comment from @koreric75 above. The sooner you get your awl figured out, the sooner you can reduce quite a few tools. I, for one, love tools. I have a fair amount but it's a typical noob inclination to tool up too heavily when you really only need about a tenth of what you'll buy at the outset. Now that I know how to use awls I really only use my irons to set spacing and then use my awl to make the hole. It takes some practice but it is pretty cool when it comes together.

Dopp kit. They are fun, fast, utilitarian, and it doesn't matter if it's chrome tanned. Or a tote? There have been some really handsome totes posted up lately too. What color is it? Any picks?

Clearly that is not a toaster over, it is a Kydex warmer. Highly scientific piece of equipment!

Feedback on our Leathergoods website
battlemunky replied to NickPol's topic in Marketing and Advertising
I love the reason behind your site and would probably buy something from you if I couldn't replicate it myself. I imagine others who aren't up to snuff on their leather skills would buy stuff from you. The site looks great. I think @bikermutt07 hit on a few things regarding your products though. I know putting more time into each product lowers the value to you but I would think that just a few small finishing touches would square you away. I don't know if those will push a bunch of traffic or business your way but it would sure complete the package.
