  1. Glad to have you, Spence. There are quite a few people here who do braiding, and also many who are interested in learning more about it. This is a great place for both learning and sharing. Look forward to seeing some of your work! Kate
  2. That is so cool!!! Lots of nice detail touches, like the engraved manufacturer logo and model number across the top. Kate
  3. And I was just at their store in Salina, KS and picked up one of these. I did see the edger/groover tool assortment. The Tandy ones are somewhat better quality, but they looked like they would do the job. Those airbrushes they sell are great for people who just want to give it a try to see how it works out, and even if you upgrade later, the low-end tools are still useful for some jobs. Kate
  4. Wow! I've never had that much trouble getting packing tape to come free of the leather. I use 3M or Staples "long-life" packing tape most of the time. I've used the cheaper stuff, and it tends to leave adhesive behind, whereas the long-life storage tape comes off clean for me every time. Then I just wax the backs (if I'm not lining it) and rub the fuzz smooth with a burnisher. Kate
  5. I always have tape going past the edges, and fold it over to keep it from sticking to my hands when I'm trying to work. That makes it easy to grab hold of it and peel it off when you're finished working on it. Kate
  6. That is beautiful work, Brent. Kate
  7. I like your dragon, and how the gold leafing turned out. I'm going to have to try that. If you like metallic colors, the Createx pearlized colors are also very nice. What did you use for a finish on this? Thanks for posting! Kate
  8. That brought back some memories! Nice work, by the way. That is just the sort of thing my dad liked to do. There were lots of examples of English-style leather work around our house, since we once lived in England. He was also a fan of Leika cameras, whose optics are included in the Lumix camera you have pictured. I have a Lumix FZ-8, and I love it! Kate

Have you tried calling them to get the status of your order? Kate
  10. I do now! If I find anything in my archives that isn't posted there, I'll post it, then. Kate
  11. I remember when 2-Shews first posted his photo of that piece. I believe it was around late 2003 to early 2004. I lost the original posting I had of it. Correct me if I recall wrongly, but I believe he said that was his first attempt at Sheridan-style floral carving. Anyway, I've got a TON of images he posted of his work on another list I subscribed to between mid-2004 to mid-2005. I'm sure everyone would LOVE to see it. Any way to contact him for his permission to post it? Kate
  12. Definitions of 'iconic' (ī-kŏńĭk) Dictionary.com · The American Heritage® Dictionary - (2 definitions) (adjective) 1. Of, relating to, or having the character of an icon. 2. Having a conventional formulaic style. Used of certain memorial statues and busts. (derivatives) íco·nići·ty noun For purposes of this discussion, I believe Andy is looking for a symbol that is most universally recognized to represent leather work. I think a head knife comes the closest, since part cutting is something that is in common with virtually every leather project, even though many of us do not use a round knife for cutting. All the other tools mentioned (including the swivel knife) may or may not be required. Whether the general public would recognize that as a symbol for leather work is unsure. But since the general public knows little about leather work, that could be questionable with whatever you use. Kate
  13. Hi Ben, THAT'S what I call WINNING. Now would you kindly pass the kleenex? Kate
  14. It looks great, Freki, along with all the other pieces you have posted photos of. I think the ??? that JustWakinUp is posing is, how do you get the collar on or off if there is no way of opening it. My guess is, these collars work like chain collars. They are just loose enough to fit over the dog's head to get it on and off. The neutral fit is somewhat loose. A leash can be attached to the outer ring, and when the dog pulls the leash too tight, it sends him/her a signal to ease off. Very pretty/handsome dogs, by the way. Kate
  15. Oh, I can definitely sympathize. We have summers like that in Kansas, USA, occasionally. But it seems they were more frequent when I lived closer to the middle of the state. (Salina and/or Wichita) Hang in there... it passes eventually, always. Kate
  16. What a gem! Both mom and child are beautiful! Congratulations! Kate
  17. I've rented a couple of videos from this site. AWESOME resource! And don't just look at the leather working videos (although there is a good assortment of them). Also take a look at engraving and some of the other categories. There are several on the topic of creating your own artwork and patterns, and you never know what you find in other art mediums that you can apply to leather work. Kate
  18. Great bag, Andy! I like that a lot. Looks like you've got the rugged look down cold. Kate
  19. Have you tried Duro All-Purpose Spray Adhesive? I have used that to permanently attach a rubber surface onto a draft table. The package says: - Clear, works fast, bonds strong. - PERMANENT Bond - spray BOTH surfaces. - REPOSITIONABLE Bond - spray ONE surface. Adhesive remains tacky. Works on: paper, fabrics, leather, cardboard, foil, foams, metal, wood, plastics, rubber, felt, and cork. Kate
  20. There are spray adhesives you can buy, which would probably be perfect for that. Just look in the adhesive section of your local craft store. I've also used a stick adhesive called a Craft Stick, which has stronger adhesive than a regular glue stick, and that also will not saturate a light, thin fabric. It dries clear and flexible. Kate
  21. Here's what arrived in my mailbox today from rawhide1 (aka Mike), this very nicely braided bracelet: I hope the pictures do justice to it. I took a photo with it on my wrist (yes, Mike, it fits perfectly!) just to give you an idea how tight the braid is. Also note the clever enclosure using those tiny little turk's head knots. Thanks very much, Mike. I love the style and the workmanship. This is one bracelet that is going to get worn! Kate
  22. Well, maybe we should pass this requirement along to our suppliers. Just a thought... Kate
  23. Nice inverted carving on that tree! It really has character. And the quilt design is very clever. I love to see the melding of various arts to create something unique. Kate
