  1. This is a pretty good machine f/leather & should use up to #138,some people use a size smaller in the bobbin & that works best if your sewing something & want a large thread for the look. Usually you should use the same size top & bottom. We do stock & can order all the parts for it. Bob
  2. FWIW both the 145 & 545 have gear drives in them for the hook, the 1245 has the drive belt & just a set of gears below the bobbin. Art is correct too! I just ordered a set of gears for under the bobbin f/a 145 & they are $120.00.the hook(a good brand) runs around $200.00,most of the feet, feed dog, needle plate are after market & less than $20.00 ea. Bob
  3. Trox, Years ago we used to import 45K's & other machines from England & they seemed to be of good quality.Maybe some other models were made in lower quality factories?
  4. Yes,it will work. When you get it you might have to loosen the tensions both on the bobbincase & top thread & then it work great. Bob

  6. The first machines in the 1850's were all bullet shuttle until Wilson invented the rotary shuttle, which is faster & smoother running than then the bullet style,as to way Singer made them both I'd say that he felt that's all some people would buy since that's what they are used to & then some people are open to the lastest & greatest. Singer ended up buying out Wison & refined his machine & that is how we know have the 111w ,144w & countless other models.
  7. That's really neat,I scrolled down & found this on the same site http://www.chholderby.com/tips-tricks-and-help/lockstitch-formation/ It might help people understand why the have to hold the first couple of stitches when they start sewing.
  8. Morrie, If you want to give me a call I'll be able to help you with your Adler 220. Bob
  9. Yes,there is different chainstitchs,on jeans they use 2-threads,there a looper underneath that has a thread on it. Bob
  10. Hello Dan, Oops I looked @ the video again alittle closer this time & seen the Union,it makes sense too that they'd need a stronger seam on the NFL balls. Sandy, over here Puritan is the brand name. Bob
  11. No,but guess what they do @ this factory @ breaktime?
  12. I delivered a machine there about 10 yrs ago,it's a very interesting place.
  13. You might need to oil it to get it to free up,the foot lifts up when the needle pulls the leather back, then comes down as the needle pulls out. These machine are fun to play with & will run pretty fast. look here to see one sewing
  14. Sandy, It looks like a Puritan to me.It uses a single needle, cotton thread(needs to be lubed)but it makes a chainstitch meaning there's loops of thread showing on the bottom. These amchine are used for horse collars, footballs & once ib a while for boat anchors. Bob
  15. Thanks Greg,we got lucky & got er done! Bob
  16. Your lucky it takes me a good 2 days to get there! Here's a link to the webpage. http://www.bootandsaddlemakertradeshow.com/
  17. Knut, If your machine has the larger one like a #230 in it & you put in a smaller needle you'll be ok except it might skip on thicker material. Now if you have a #180 shim in your machine it only has the clearance or opening for the 180 needle & when you go larger like a #230 you'll damage the point of your hook real quick because it wider than the gap.SO you might want to take the 2-screws out & see what # of shim you have they have the # on them. Adler uses a slotted head screw for the shim screws this pic is from a Cowboy 205 Bob
  18. I have to agree with Jim,the 205 might look a little nicer but it doesn't sew any different than the 441's,also when you change needle size on a 205 you have to change the shim on the shuttle, which can get annoying after while. Bob
  19. The 112 is a double needle version of the 111w,same as the 212 a double needle 211,the 211 is a redesigned 111 but most people will agree the 211 in no way sews or stands up like a 111w does. Bob
  20. Yes, the K60 is a large bobbin. Bob
  21. Welcome to the board, Nice work there. Bob
  22. Welcome to the group here.I just thought I'd let you know there's a Boot & Saddlemakers show on Sept30&Oct 1 in Whichta Falls. There will be alot of leather, tool, machines & related leatherworking supplies there. Bob
  23. I've found that you really have to tighten the top thread alot to get 138 to work & then it still might give you problems,so I recommend size 92 as the largest for a 29-4.What happens is all the parts in the shuttle drive system end up getting alttie play in each part that transfer to alot of play at the shuttle that it doesn't go all the way around to realease the thread like it should.Usually the newer 29's like 29K58,70,71 & all the big bobbin machines can handle the 138 better. Bob
  24. Watchouit they might take it then you'll have another $250.00 in shpg. Bob
  25. I doubt if they will ever get that much for it either,we usually sell that model for $1,00.00 less than they want. Bob
