    baby food jars

I have a small box of baby jars. I use them to store my mixed dyes and also use them on the desk when I am painting or dyeing something. Great to have around.
  2. 15 min... wow and its good. You would not want to see my 15 min job lol Thanks for sharing. Thats some thing I would love to learn more about. I have a air brush but not that good at it. Probably if I did that paint job they would want 600. from me. lol ( for damages )
  3. hi papa. I read that where they told us how to do it so.... I got me some vinigar and a rusty chain.. let it sit for 3 weeks. Got a scrap of leather and put it in the leather and let it soak it up a bit. It came out black... if the solution is not strong it will come out merky looking and then later turn black...then I waited till 3 weeks and out it came totally black. I oiled it and then dipped it in my soda solution real good. Looked great and it was fun. by the way a big thanks to everyone that gave that instructions.
  4. I agree, I also like the one on the left. I like your philip screw heads on there. That is a great idea. They look great.

    Bulldog mask

Wow, it looks good .... that is super good. I really like that. And I am like the others...Please share your other masks as you get them done. and thank you for the pattern.
  8. I bought a biker wallet and carved a eagle pattern on the front of it that Jim had drawn. After that I got some leather that I have here in my shop and it was twice the thickness and used it to cut out for the dragon billfold insides. The leather I used was just a little thick...nothing bad but thinner would be better. They use about a 2 or 3oz leather and mine was about 4 to 5 oz. I made the liner by making templates from the measurements from the tandy liner then marked and cut out the sections. I had to keep looking at the eagle billfold to see how to sew the dragon liner.. but it came out ok. As with any first one ..you always see things you want to change on your next. I made a card slot section to go where the top snaps are and a flap to go over to keep them in place but backed out at the last min. I think I'll put it in my next one to see if its ok.
  9. I had a person ask me to make one for them but it looked really tough to do so I backed down. The price of these were up there. I to would like to see this.
  10. Thanks everyone for all the kind words. The one thing I did was use just a little bit over heavy leather on the insides. So I'll get some lighter leather for the insides. Again, thanks for the kind words.
  11. wow thats nice.... That is SO nice. Look at all the tooling and done so nice. I like the birds in white... sets the back off perfectly...
  12. I read some where that someone stored thier veg tan in plastic pvc pipes, (cut about 4 foot), with lids at both ends.... So away the wife and I went to Lowes and I got several of them and I roll up my veg tan and cap the pipe, then labeled. Keep them in a large wheel around trash can with my latigo just rolled in the trash can. So far its worked great. I hope this is ok???
  13. That is one very very nice vest. I also followed your tutorial and its great. Thanks
  14. Finished this biker wallet. I decided to use my dragon tearing the leather and I completed the insides for the first time. The insides are the same as tandy has, I used that as a pattern to make mine. I seen several in this group doing the insides to thier wallets and I had to try. Anyway...thought I would share this with all of you. If you see something I should of done different or improve on, please tell me... never to old to learn.

    HIDECRAFTERS

Glad you asked that Billy. I was just looking at my old cataloge and wondering if anyone got any new information from them. I'll wait and see what you find out.
  17. Well, my solution had sit awhile and I needed to dye a small item black so..... I dipped it in the vinegar 3 times and let it soak up good. then worked some oil into it. It was still gray looking so dipped it 3 times in the water and soda and I looked at it and it was black all the way threw. I really liked the color.. made it look old and no mess. Thanks for sharing this idea with us.
  18. Life is like you guys say it is. What bothers me is when a leather worker passes on, all his or her skills goes away with the person. Its bad enough that the person moves on but even the skills go and that to me, makes it worse. I still have the value of the person on my mind, please don't think that I am ignoring that, but after that, I move to all the skills that are gone. I am glad I read this thread... now I need to get to work because I do put off things. I also believe that you have to deal with life with the cards it deals you. So far my cards have been good but I am 60 and that could change this afternoon, never know. I guess thats why some have a good garden..... suppose to take some of the extra tomatoes next door to help out.
  19. I went to walmart and got one of the small cutting boards made from a plastic, I think. Then cut it in half and rounded the edges of both with my sander. Works great and I have two for the price of one.lol Boy, if walmart knew that they would charge me double. hahaha I guess this is ok.. Seems to work fine. Would glass work better than this?
  20. I wonder if thats what I am dealing with.. Thanks Bob, I'll do that Not all the tools are perfect so that makes perfect sense. After all......... It can't be me hahahahaha
