  2. Our ' Mothers Day' is not until May here in Oz, but challenge accepted Might make a coaster or something to hang up , .......or a giant fridge magnet would be even better cos the ones she has on the fridge are crap, stuff just falls off . Yep, a fridge magnet it is HS
  3. I enjoy carving horses. But my 'better' works are often on scraps, but when I put a horse onto a project, my 'doodles' on scraps look better...go figure? I guess the moral of this, is , do try so hard? Your work looks great btw HS
  4. And for those that don't have FB, like me: Heres another version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiJ8tolOTKw Its a very fascinating process. I've also seen a vid on how base balls are made, amazing stuff HS
  5. Agreed. Looks kinda ' retro' , looks comfy too . Wouldn't take me long to fall asleeeee..... HS
  6. Thats looks quite neat and a fine job you've done on the basket weave . ...and, I'm not the only one that uses those paper clips, love em' HS
  7. If I was to charge the true price, I wouldn't sell a damn thing. I know my market. I'm sure this has been discussed before on here. HS
  8. Depending on the pattern , I have used drawing pins in the leather where its not going to be seen, dyed or its going to be ' stamped out ' . HS
  9. @flyingpirate Is it me, or does the needle look a little blunt? That too can make a difference . HS
  10. Perhaps a bunch of flowers & and a box of chocolates wouldn't go astray either HS
  11. In all honesty, it doesn't look that bad. By trying to remove them may make it look worse and even cause more damage. Your choice, but I'd be leaving it alone. HS
  12. Well, after 18 years ( this April) , I must be doing something right I think this is one of those discussions that will keep going..and going HS
  13. Its very rare, but do you have any white dye?...or perhaps bleach ? or, try a little white leather paint? Its a long shot, Just sayin' I only have a very small amount of white dye left, and very sparingly used. HS
  14. One very smart looking rig, the signature is a nice touch HS
  15. @chuck123wapati "lol if i had an extra 12 k to spend I would be setting in an ice hut drinking hot toddies and jigging for walleyes and buyin my leather goods already made." If I had spare $12k, I'd fix up one of my old ' Landys' and disappear into the bush, cook up a few snags ( sausages) on a open fire washed down with a few beers & sip JD's . " Byeeeeeeee suckers , don't call me, I'll call you !!!!" No harm in dreamin' eh? LOL HS
  16. Unless something has to be glued, I always dye and seal the inside ( flesh side) of everything I make. Always have done. HS
  17. One of my friends is a ' quilter' and she showed me her very ex$y machine, around the $12-14k mark. OMG !! Very impressive. She does it as business and does great work and just one quilt could be in the hundreds. The machines I could buy with $12k?? HS
  18. Heres a link...I think: https://www.leathermag.com/features/featurerusskaya-kozha-finishing-plant-opens-in-lorca/ It does reference ' concerie cogolo' , third paragraph You could also try searching: 'concerie cogolo tanneries' as I did. HS
  19. Is it just me , or does that ' ink stain' look like a foot print?? What was it resting against in the closet?
  20. That would be quite a comfy reliable vehicle to drive The down side of old ' Landys' , they ain't comfy. They're not built for speed or comfort , just work, but they do have a good low range. . After a weekend of 4 wheel driving ( back in the day ) it feels like I've done a workout at the gym . Heavy clutch ,and steering , no luxury of power steering. But if it gets a few dents, get a hammer, bang 'em back out again. If the battery is low, use a crank handle to start it. Can't do that these days. No way would I take a fancy latest model modern 4WD in the bush, too much to go wrong, and one scratch and its devalued by $5K lol . HS
  21. and thats a discussion we've all had before, one of the many reasons why I love this site
  22. Thank you to you both. @Frodo You really have opened up a can of worms HS
  23. Can't you be artistic with stamping tools as well? The stamping took a good few hours to do, and the design is my own . The sky really is the limit . HS
  24. When it comes to carving or stamping, the sky is the limit . You can be artistic with either. You can incorporate both if you wish. I often doodle with tools on scraps with designs( either carved or stamped) that I thought of. If they look good , I go with it. Theres certainly a sense of individuality when you come up with your own designs. Its yours, and no one elses HS
