  1. Here, its $16 per kilo, not sure what that equates to over there. The size of the brisket was just a bit over a kilo. It has a bit more fat than gravy or chuck steak...equates to more flavour . I also put in a few roughly chopped potatoes & a large carrot chopped up. Came out quite good My next culinary ' adventure' will be butter chicken . HS
  2. It went well . I didn't go overboard with the 'spice' , but delish, but next time I'll put a bit extra paste in the mix. Thai curry pastes can have quite a kick . A different aroma & taste than an Indian curry . The brisket was soooooo tender with a lot of flavour . HS
  3. We have the complete opposite, heaps of rain. Even worse in the east....floods. Thankfully no markets or events this weekend. I've seen the bush fires in the UK and everywhere else. The UK is just not used to those conditions. Heartbreaking to see, but sadly , something we're all too familiar with here in Oz. The chooks sound so good, and yes, theres something about cooking on a open fire, the flavour is totally different. The jalapenos sound really spicy . Yummy Potato salads, very common at just about every party, and BBQ here. Not complete without it. I sometimes watch ' Korean Street food ' on 'youtoobalicious ' . May not look all that healthy, but looks tasty HS
  4. Found that belt...on my phone . Its the only belt I have made using white dye. I sold it pretty quick from memory . HS
  5. @chuck123wapati Hope your foodie journey is going well. Massaman curry is on the menu Saturday night . Got the paste yesterday . Never had a Massaman before . Its a Thai curry. Its a bit sweeter than a regular Indian style curry ....apparently . I'll be using brisket, thawing out as I type, it'll go on about mid-day and cook all through the day , nice and s-l-o-w I'll see how it goes . I just need a few more papadums from the supermarket . HS *PS : I am >> this<< close to getting my tractor started, everything is ready...I just need some dry weather , Mother Nature is making me wait. *
  6. Yes I have . I did make a belt using the white leather dye in the pic , I'll try and find it. The makers in the pics no longer exist . The dyes were just in with some (old) stuff that someone gave me . But it does stink either due to its age, or chemical make up...or both. I had to put quite a few coats on to get the required finish. It was more like a 'white wash' than a dye. IMO, not worth the bother, nor have I have any demand for white leather products. I have white kangaroo leather if I do. HS
  7. This has come up once before on this forum hasn't it ?? But I can't remember who had the same problem? Could make the leather into ' cat pee purses ' ??? Ha !! sorry HS
  8. @Affaltar I did have a quick look around , but I think it will be a tall order to find a pattern for that . https://tr.pinterest.com/altemur/ottoman-firearms/ Perhaps if you contact the gent in the link, or get him to take some extra pics of the holster you wish to make so you can copy it? Or he may have more info? Good luck HS
  9. I use the same ( leather) needle for both leather & canvas . Too much down time forever changing needles . Doesn't look any different HS
  10. Thats what makes it so special, not something you can buy . Looks great !! You've probably got more support than you imagined . All good, thats what we're here for HS
  11. Welcome back to leather A pretty good effort since you haven't done it in 30 years. Well done. I have all 3 volumes of those books, and many more of 'Al Stohlmans books. Some date back to the mid 50's . They're looking their age, but forever helpful. HS
  12. Can't help but think that an air brush was also used in the process, especially the darker section near the bone? Just a thought . HS
  13. All good down here in upside down land. Its gremlins. I had a few issues with my 'eftpos' at the weekend . turn on///turn off.... etc. press a button/s...and hey presto... its alive !! Signals not always good out here in the bush either. But not as simple as that I'm guessing? This bourbon is going down nicely though.....just sayin' HS
  14. I couldn't help myself but see how thick it can sew when I first got mine . I just wanted to see if the ad in the magazine matched the performance....and the chunk of leather under the foot when it arrived ..Yup around the 21-22mm . Ye Gods !!! .... it blew me away . I went slow . I've never had a job that needed that thickness, but nice to know it can do it. Although I don't have a servo, I have found that it will turn better after use ( warmed up perhaps? ) but harder to turn when cold. Strange. Have fun HS
  15. Yep, Thats what I use. I apply it with ' Q' tips, ... cotton earbuds, to put the CC precisely where I want it to go . They're cheap & disposable . Yep, that too Using adhesives is like having an extra pair of hands, holding stuff while sewing etc. HS
  16. Its ' camouflaged' in with the black fabric . Should have gone to ' spec savers' HS
  17. Well done on the ' rescue', looks great I have a used a velveteen type fabric as a liner on handbags, ( it was cheaper) but, when I applied the adhesive , it came through the fabric in some parts. So, the solution to that I found was to use a matt spray finisher as used for sealing drawings etc. I sprayed a good coat on the back of the liner, let dry, and then apply the adhesive . This may not happen to you at all, depending on the fabric and your adhesive. I'm just going by my own experience/ mistakes. Perhaps try a test piece? HS
  18. Yeh, don't we all know it For me, that height is too high, I'm short anyway , but a chair or stool will come in handy, as @Dwight mentioned standing up to sew is not good. Get a good strong one ....o'h, and a good adjustable light. Congratulations on your purchase . Good luck and happy sewing with your new machine HS
  19. Its one of "those" jobs I just wish I never started or agreed to . It been hanging around for about 12-18 months. Floor 'real estate' is at a prime as it is . I'll try the sandbag idea. The 'herring bone'/ baseball ' stitch is quite common on steering wheels ? You're very welcome friend HS
  20. You know, I've been thinking about that since yesterday . That seems to be the only viable idea that just may work . Its that damn arm rest bit thats giving me the s*^ts !! Apply adhesive to just that section of the leather and the arm rest...place leather onto armrest , poke, mold , ,shape, smooth ...etc . and put sand bags on the corner sections , let sit for 12 - 24 hrs or so . Next, carefully glue the rest down ....bit by bit ..stretching , pulling, shaping...you know the drill. I always get the "good " jobs I have yet to check out youtoobaloovian . HS
  21. G'Day, Has anyone tried covering auto door skins with leather? I have a job of doing just that, for a vintage BMW , and its one of 'those' jobs that seem to linger around the workshop , take up space, etc. Theres 4 to do. Whats putting me off is trying to cover the arm rest part of the door skin. I have nice piece of black upholstery leather with a milled grain. Enough to do at least 3 skins. The originals were heat pressed rubber/vinyl . Yuk !! If it wasn't for the arm rest component , I'd have them done long ago , as the rest of the skin is fairly straight forward. Have a look at the pic and tell me what you think ?? With vinyl it can be heated up with heat gun, moulded, shaped glued ...and thats it. I was thinking of making a separate arm rest component out of fibre glass, ( I know fibre glass very well ) using the orig. as a template , and cover that in leather, and then fit the covered piece over the orig ? The very top section has another separate piece goes over the top, that I have already covered, piece of cake that was. thanks HS
  22. No, but happy to try. But I am a dab hand at quesadillas, not the Mexican 'ring burners ',( I have 2 oldies to think of * ) but basically wholemeal wraps, , bacon, leak or onion, capsicum ( red peppers) , and a little garlic, cracked pepper..perhaps any left over pizza meat, ..and lashings of cheese Dear God I love cheese !! Thank God for cows The trout looks so damn good !!!!!!!! We're still using the carcasses from the Christmas turkey & ham for hearty soups. We do our best not to waste food. Craw fish look a bit like the English Langoustine, and similar to Yabbies, Jilgies ( pronounced Joogies) and Koonacs here in Oz . They all taste yummy , no matter what they're called We also have Marron ( fresh water crays ) but are protected, and size regulated, and can only be caught at certain times of the year to maintain numbers. Taste is totally different to sea water crays, more ' earthy' . * I actually love a good stinking hot beef or chicken Vindaloo or madras that almost make me sweat . But when you have two oldies with sensitive tum tums, I have to be careful . I've even had curry with chips ( fries) a ' ye olde english' dish .Dips chips in curry sauce...mmmm . HS
  23. I did try to click on the ' green bar' at the top , but it disappeared quicker than I can say, 'Leatherworker.net' . It was there barely a second. Had my little pointer in position ready to click on it too . Must be losing my touch. Does anyone know what it says?? HS
  24. Good food is good for the soul, that and a nice Shiraz I did get a piece of brisket , that will soon be turned into a slow cooked curry in the next week or so. Had nacho's last night, home made taco seasoning , pretty simple . Smoked paprika, cumin, a bit of salt, and some cajun seasoning . Delish !!! No doubt you have the same issue as we have atm with the price of meat going up...and up ( amongst everything else) , so we have to be a bit careful , and go for the cheaper cuts. We're fairly adaptable , we can pretty much make anything out of nothing and turn it into a meal, so long as it tastes good and fills our bellies. HS *quick update on the Fordson, nearly finished. Carby re-built, a few minor bits & bobs to finish, and then...fill up with water and start it. Fingers crossed
