I believe the 69-72 takes needle system# 135. Sizes up to #120 The 69-73 takes up to #14-160 I believe. Good machine. Just take the feed dog out and enlarge the hole with a Dremel and carbide tool or Mitchell Cord. These are good machines. If you can go on the sew24bogspot.com, it may have the original brochure on the machine that explains the sub classes. I have it but have to find it. glenn

Bob Kovar probably will not have the feed dog. I think those are made by Weaver as an exclusive. Silver solder still cheaper and easy to file once soldered. Just my 2 cents. glenn

Where to source Pfaff 138 knurled nuts?
shoepatcher replied to Paxman's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
College Sewing in England. Might try them. glenn How about any dealer in Germany? -
silver solder works better. glenn

No I believe the 69-72 does not have 4 motion drop feed like the 69-372, 373. It was used for binding. The difference between the 69-372 and 69-373 was that the 69-372 was made for smaller threads and needles. Normally the hole is smaller in the feed dog and the balance wheel on the two machines may or may not be different diameters. Same with model 69-72 and 69-73. Smaller hole in the feed dog. Adler also might have changed a part or two inside the machine to accommodate heavier thread and sew thicker materials. They had a lot of sub classes. glenn

No. The groove in the feed dog was for the threads to go in. If sewing leather, you want an ungrooved feed dog to push the bottom thread back into the leather. You can either fill it in with silver solder or contact Weaver Leather in Ohio. They have ungrooved feed dogs for sewing leather for sale. They sold more of these machines than anyone else in the world. Ask for Allen Burkholder. He is in on Monday and Tuesdays. glenn

shoepatcher replied to Paxman's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Contact Luke at MJ Foley in Detroit. At one time, they were the largest Pfaff dealer in the US. Do you have the part numbers? Their telephone number is 5869486070. glenn -

Yet another which machine to buy topic
shoepatcher replied to katit's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
That machine was probably made in China. The older Pfaff machines will say made in Germany. The newer ones do not say made in Germany. Still, a very good machine. Label seems to be beat up which could come from the handling of the machine. Head looks good otherwise and it is a Pfaff. glenn -
Yet another which machine to buy topic
shoepatcher replied to katit's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I am wrong. It is a Pfaff. I just did not see any Pfaff logos or labels and I know that machine has been knocked off in clones. A Pfaff even made in China is a good machine!!!! glenn -
That spring is not working quite correctly in the video. The spring works twice when it is only supposed to work once. Watch the take up spring. glenn

Yet another which machine to buy topic
shoepatcher replied to katit's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
That machine is a clone of a 1245. It is not a genuine Pfaff. Good copy though at least in appearance. Chinese have done a very good job in a lot of cases of copying PROVEN genuine machines. Only test is to sew on it and see how it feels and sews. the real test is the tolerances and the steel they used in making it. Genuine Pfaff's are some of the smoothest machines out there even over Adler and Juki's. I have owned a few of each and just bought a new D/A 669 which is a beast. glenn -
4-button servo controller instructions
shoepatcher replied to alex11's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Artisan should provide you with a set of English instructions for the motor. If they do not, let everyone on this board know! That is poor customer service. glenn -
Prices seem high to me. There are no new parts available special to the 29-4 now that Pilgrim Shoe Machinery has closed in May of this year. glenn

Contact Luke at M.J.Foley. They are the master distributor for Juki in America. They have or can get you the mechanic's manual. I believe their Phone number is 1-586 948 6070. glenn

running #138 on top and #92 on the bobbin is fine. We do that in hockey all the time and the bobbin on the Adler 69 is the older smaller one which was the same size as an earlier Pfaff 335 before they went to the G bobbin on the newer machines. glenn

singer 111G156 '0' stitch length?
shoepatcher replied to davemac2's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Yes. O Stitch length means the needle just goes up and down without any stitch length produced. Also , the stitch gauge which is a round disc on the main shaft may be off. There are 1 or 2 screws that hold it to the main shaft. Loosen these and you can rotate the stitch length to be right on. Go to maximum stitch length in your case 5 SPI and adjust the gauge to read 5 in the access window. Go to 32 SPI which should be zero. To my knowledge, Singer never had a zero on the stitch gauge. glenn -
A Pfaff 335G-6/01 can sew up to #138 thread. That is all on use on mine. Like Constabulary and Wizcraft said, only the needle and feed dog restricts the use. In my case, I went to a #23 needle and enlarged the needle hole in the feed dog. If you are buying it new from a dealer, have them set it up to sew #138 thread. Not a big deal. glenn

Need some explaining did please. Singer 111-151
shoepatcher replied to Stetson912's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
This is not a true walking foot machine. A walking foot machine is better for sewing leather especially if you are going over seams and splines. Just my tow cents. glenn -

Singer 7-34 Manual and Needle Type
shoepatcher replied to Sambishop16's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
The 794 needle system is about the same as the 7x1,7x2 needles. I think they are better because they have the needle scarf above the eye that allow you to get the hook closer to the needle, hence less missed stitches. The system 794 are available in a lot of sizes and they make different leather tips as well. I guess the round points are now available in titanium coating which really makes sense. glenn- 4 replies

Cylinder Bed Needle Feed Nakajima 321L on CL Seattle
shoepatcher replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Well, this means Nakajima built the 321L and it became the Juki LS-321. Probably the same for the LS-341 as well. Name changed when Juki bought them out and tweaked the specs on the machines just a little bit to make them better. I did not know that Nakajima designed these two machines. What many people may not know is that it was Nakajima who originally designed and built the 441 which became the Juki TSC-441, the machine that so many clones have been built off of. When I was in British Columbia from 1986-1990, there was a dealer selling a lot of 441 Nakajima machines and had been selling them for a couple of years. Learn something new every day. glenn -
Service & Repair manual Singer 29
shoepatcher replied to chrisash's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
To my knowledge, Singer never produced a service manual for the 29K machines. Believe, I have looked for one for almost 40 years. Adler did produce one for the 30-10. 50, 70. A lot of that info can be used on the singers. glenn
