  1. Tandy strap cutter works fine for me.
  2. Tandy has bag/oblong punches I use for belt slots. And my belts are 10 oz. IF chisels making to big of hole maybe use a bigger thread.
  3. I have used the cheap plastic yellow mallet and the black 1lbs maul. Both from Tandy. Both get good impressions on well cased veg tan. The yellow mallet can have a little jump on the stamp so I only use for tooling stamps. Like the beveler and the like.
  4. As for cutting the slots. My only suggestion is to get a bag/oblong punch. IF You layout the lines for the slots you can use a 3/4 in bag punch to cut any length slot you want. IF ya get what I mean. As to stitching I couldn't get the ask work down so I changed to chisels. Ta. Matt.
  5. I know I'm new to this. I ship most things ordered within 7 days. Next day if it's a ready made item.
  6. I use chisels. It gives ME an even look. My ask stitching is not good. Good chisels don't make to big a hole IF you match thread to stitch. IMHO.
  7. I do them \. IF You look at the top of this section there are 2 tutorials on doing angled basket weave. But with most stamping I think it's what you like and what works.lol
  8. Basically the way I understand it is. European style is marking and hand stitching with an awl. Japanese is to pre punch with a chisel and then hand stitch. Ian Atkinson also has some good hand stitching videos. Leodis Leather. He uses chisels. I have the Craftool Pro 3mm and 4mm. Work very nice. Gives a 8spi and 10spi roughly.
  9. We're you using the black Craftool or the Pro set?
  10. 4mm roughly 8 dpi. 5mm roughly 6spi.3mm roughly 10 dpi.
  11. YouTube can be your friend on a lot of stuff with leather. There is some not worth watching but quite a few guys on this site have made videos and tutorials on how to do stuff. Have fun.
  12. I just saw Nigel Armitage was sent some and seems to like at the first go. He will probably do a video on them soon. He has a bunch of review videos on pricing irons and stitching chisels.
  13. They are pretty easy for a basic one. Look on YouTube there are quite a few videos on how to make one. A 6 foot 1X4 in oak and a 6 inch piece of 2×4 . A few screws, bolt with wing nut or clamp and some leather to wrap the end so you dont mar up your projects. I used a piece of cedar fence board.lol
  14. I've never bought the euro bend. But I did notice most of the have man made holes. Must be part of the tanning process.
  15. I remember him posting a few months ago about a burglary.
  16. It's really more of anew accent panel than reinforcement panel IMO. If you cover the trigger guard it will be harder to get good boning to hold the gun won't it?
  17. Looks good. Interesting combo. But it works. Would have not thought of that.
  18. They are t nuts with 6/32 screws. You can get them at Home Depot or the such. As for the pull the dot snaps check out HolsterSmith.com. I would not use any kind magnets in my opinion. Pull the dot snaps are 1 way snaps and use a setter for them alone. They are they size of line 24 snaps.
  19. I got some weldwood and it seems to work good. Not as strong smelling as the Barge.
  20. Check out the sharpening tutorials on this site and some on YouTube also. Be a good start.
  21. The reason I quit use in Edge Kote is it can scratch off. YMMV. You can get hole punches and wood chisels at Harbor Freight to do belt slots also.
  22. Looks good for a first go. I started out using Edge Kote but changed to dying my edges. Practice your stitching and edging on the small wallets that Jeff has on his site with his holsters. They use minimum amount of leather and help nail down the techniques. He also is a font of information and advise. Keep on keeping on. Ta. Matt.
