I ended up getting the line 20 and 24 Barry King setters. They work great.

Fiebings Pro Dye vs Feibings Leather Dye
Mattsbagger replied to ewayne53's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Just to start. The carrier in both are the same. Alcohol. The difference is the pigment base. In the Pro dye it’s oil based in the regular it’s a powder. I have better luck with the Pro as the pigment doesn’t seem to build up on the surface as much as regular. I also airbrush my dye on. -
My take on a Western Gun Rig
Mattsbagger replied to KrisQ's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Just plain beautiful. Nuff said. -
I was confused about not knowing if the guns would fit. Then I saw you were in Australia. I made my dad a belt and holster for his Peacemaker clone. Had to hope it fit as he lives a 1000 miles away. Used the El Dorado Rig pattern pack and it fit perfect.

Just a plain saddle stitch should be used whenever you have a liner. Your whip stitch is gonna take a lot of abuse and break I fear. Basically I stitch the entire perimeter of holster if lined.

Looks pretty nice to me. I don’t tool but love how it looks and can appreciate the skill and work that goes into it. -
They brought it back about a year ago. I think it’s water based now though. https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/eco-flo-tandy-neat-lac-8-fl-oz-237-ml

I saw on Facebook a few weeks ago they were closing down. I don’t use machines so that’s as much as I noticed. -
Long Wallet
Mattsbagger replied to cbossio's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Casing the leather is one of the most important things. Too wet mushy impressions. To dry doesn’t stamp. Yours looks to dry to my. I don’t tool but stamp a fair amount. And I use a lot of $3.99 stamps from Tandy. -
Tiger thread is flat braided. It lays awesome. But in the end the look is up to you. Cheap chisels are hard to get good results with. Check out Nigel Armitage Leather on YouTube he has a LOT of stitching videos and reviews of different chisels and irons if you want to stitch with an awl.

Nope I only use pre waxed and dyed Tiger thread and nothing that big. I’ve ordered supplies from all over the world on Etsy with no problems and shipping is usually fairly quick.

I’d stitch it. It will probably separate eventually without it. A dog lead is gonna be a heavy use item that will probably get wet and dry a lot over its lifetime.

Thank you guys.

Sorry I just noticed this. Thank you.

Looks great! Speed isn’t the objective but quality. IMHO
