This is one I just did. How would you do the corner with camouflage tool facing other way around? My border put on with dividers not knife.
-
Ya i think so. He ain't been here in a cpl days but he will be back.lol I'm not sure how big a hurry OP is in.
-
I'm actually not anymore if it is backwards. My 1 hr stamping class at Tandy taught me the WRONG way to do a basket weave. So maybe taught the camouflage stamp wrong too. Lol it still is awesome looking. Way better than the one I did yesterday.

Check out the for sale section on here. JLSleather has a bunch of HO plain embossed and drum dyed blanks for sale. Or did he was moving and didn't wanna pack everything. He might not have them up anymore. He also is real good to deal with. Free shipping and fast. I'd message him and see.

The reason people don't like to use belly is that it is stretchy. The dye job looks nice. If it were me I would do a few more of the wallets just the same. And practice stitching and burnishing to nail down stitching and edges. Then start with using a better leather. Better leather makes for better end projects. And it looks like your off to a real good start. Other people can give you better idea of "best" leathers to use.

Are you talking on the same piece? Or one dye to do different shades on different pieces? I just got some Show Brown fishing pro dye. Its nice and dark no orange. The dark brown is Good too. I HATED the light brown never looked good on ANYTHING.
-
Question. Did you use the camoflauge tool backwards on purpose? Personally to me it still looks good to me.
-
Looking good. I want someone to build me the one in the AL Stohlman books. Lol Are you gonna put leather or something else on jaws?
-
Pretty good start. It's not as easy as it looks. 1/16 of a inch is a big thing.lol Keep on keepin on is all I can say. Ta. Matt.

Sorry taking about Herman Oak Leather as opposed to Tandy dying better. Idk about lazer engraving. Painting with acrylics or using antique is only way ik how to make any marking in the leather "pop". There are a few tutorials on here and YouTube showing both. The gel is very thick because you put a resist on probably more than 1 coat. Let dry well. Then using a damp sponge and WAY more than think of the gel work in good over entire piece. It will get down in all impressions in the leather. Wipe excess off with a DRY paper towel. 90 percent will come off raised leather. I will slightly darken the un tooled portions. You can the VERY CAREFULLY use a damp not wet sponge and remove a little more. Don't press hard or you will pull color out of the engraved portions. Hope that makes sense. Check out a bunch of videos is my advice and what I rambled on about here will make more sense. Lol Look up Hidepounder on here and check his stuff. He teaches classes at Prescott and Sheridan at the expo's. Good luck.

Holster for an Anaconda

Look at the Sam Andrews Carjacker on Andrews leather. Might fit the bill of easy reach and comfort. Not western but an idea to look at. -
Need heat with chrome tan. See embossing. You need to wet veg tan. See tooling/stamping. I BELIEVE but not positive heat also works on veg tan.

Those do look pretty cool. I'm a hobbiest mainly. Can they be had in smaller quantity and a one way snap (pull the dot I think it's called) style?
-
Yep it probably is,being the Tandy one. I'm sure there are better ones made by better makers. But for some Tandy is all they have access to or can afford. A $700 dollar adjustable soldering iron with multiple tips just aint in my budget. As this is a hobby for me not my living.
-
The pic of adjustable creaser I posted is the original heated creaser if you have a candle handy.lol

New but here are my experiences.Granted I use Fiebings spirit dyes. Tandy leather sometimes has a coating on it to make it look better cover some flaws. You need to clean before dying with oxcilic acid expecially if any tooling was done. HO leather dyes a lot nicer. All leather will dye different due to different density in different places. An airbrush seems to be the easiest way to get an even finish. Dyeing is an art not a science. Best advice is experiment on scraps from same hide and cut the closest to where you cut your work piece from. Mixing water stain and antique gel probably possible but don't know why want to. They are both water based but are to achieve different things. You can apply multiple coats of the gel to get a richer solid color BUT you will lose the highlight effects in your tooling.Mixing the water stains to get different colors is pretty common and in a Tandy video on using eco flo water stain he does mix them. Good luck. Ta. Matt.

You might want to put this in the sewing leather section. It might get seen by people who hand stitch easier. I only have used Tandy and now use Tiger. Idk anything about linen so can't help you there. Good luck. Matt.

Pretty cool. A lot of time and love into that.
-
Sorry pic looked like it was rolled on my phone.
-
Same thing. Rolled edge and a creaser run down the top edge.
-
Also need a very thin leather and skiving. It's probably chrome tan leather too.
