  1. This is another style. Flat piece sew pocket in middle. Fold over and sew closed. It is either riveted or sewn to another flat panel then that is sew to the main body. These are called floating pockets I believe. Or Japanese style long wallets. There is a document pocket behind the zipper pocket also.this is 6 pieces of leather not counting the liner on this one.
  2. Lady at work wanted a quiver for husbands birthday. This pattern is one I got on etsy. They called it a Weaver Style. The mouth piece is not as light as it looks in the pics.
  3. Well I broke down and got the 8 inch harbor frieght drill press and a sanding drum kit. What is the best speed to run it for burnishing? I have one of the white plastic "slickers"/ pully.lol I put a 4 inch bolt and nuts and washers on it. I'm not worried about getting edges done fast just done well. This is about less pain than speed to me.
  4. Me to i hate it.lol I've owned 3 KW over the years but when a company driver you drive what they give you.
  5. The base part of the snap. So there is a flat side where the leather folds instead of round.
  6. This is the one from Makesupply. It comes with a zippered pocket too. Didn't have a zipper when I made it. I have made a couple with pockets now will send if can find pic of those. He has a YouTube video on how to make it too. I lined this one with pigskin. It's very stiff and needed the strap to keep it closed. It's edged with Tandy pro edge paint. I like it but overall I do like the unlined ones better. I have a more roper style pattern I got off etsy too. If look at my chain driven wallet post. Also the Makesupply one can be digital download or order a acrylic template. https://www.etsy.com/listing/458845044/leather-patterns-projects-vol-1-iss-4 This is the other pattern I used call a pocket secretary.
  7. Good enough for me Dwight. Do you thin or use straight?
  8. I'm just about out of my quart of Barge and I notice only now that apparently you are opposed to thin it. Here's my questions. Is weldwood as good? I know it's much cheaper. Do you think Weldwood? If so with what? Ta all. Matt
  9. Tru dat. He even explains why he snips one side of a snap under a fold so it doesn't wear. Uses the same hand rivet and snap setters I have too! Lol That sewing machine of his is a beast! He says it won't go through his stainless reinforcement pieces. But I'm not to sure it wont.
  10. I have .8 and 1mm. Use .8 for 8spi and 1 for 6 spi. I have some .6 for 10 spi too. But in the end it's all about what YOU think looks best.
  11. Ya i just came across it. Lots of hardware attached. I did find it interesting that he uses neetsfoot compound cause he likes the color of is sun tanned holsters better. As most people on here say it's the Debel.(As the water boy says). Also has a clicker for his most popular stuff. But says it just speeds the process up and only need about 5 tools to do basic leather work.
  12. Almost impossible to stop wet transfer. Even as on way more experienced member said once. Even the most expensive Italian shoes will transfer dye if you get it wet. If you get no transfer when buffing the .... out of it dry I'd say you are doing the best you can.
  13. Do you use a layout pattern or just a line like a basket weave stamp?
  14. Yes 8 spi is 3mm ish 6 spi is 5mm ish. Basically do what looks best to you. Also thread size has a lot to do with your stitching. I use Tiger thread. More stitches=smaller thread. I use .8mm and 1mm.
  15. 8/9 is a pretty heavy leather for note covers and stuff. I use 4/5 for wallet body and 2/3 for pockets. I use 7/8 for holsters. 6 spi for holsters and 8 spi on wallets is my rule of thumb. I threw my light brown non pro Fiebings dye away because never could get a decent color. I've made messenger bags out of 3/4 flexible but sturdy enough to hold its shape. The bend is generally the "best" most uniform cut. It's rare to get good leather at Tandy. NEVER buy there craftsman grade. It might look ok but will never dye uniform and all kinds of scars and "fixes" will show up when you try to dye it. This is what I've learned in 5 months of doing leather. Save the Tandy leather for practice pieces. I know there are plenty of people on here with way more experience than me who can chime in with better advise.Good luck in your journey.
  16. You can use antique after dye. You just have to resist first. It will slightly darken the whole project. Use black probably. Check the how to do section there is an instruction on how to antique also there are quite a few videos on YouTube.
  17. He has an Etsy store too just a fyi.
  18. Ah yes but I have 5 and 3 in stock.
  19. Cool. Fanks as they say in London.
  20. I was thinking that about the rigidity. I have noticed when glued 2 pieces together seemed stiffer than equal weight of single. Now would I have to adjust my stitch line is the 1 million dollar question?
  21. Good deal. Thanks everyone.
  22. Would gluing a 5oz and a 3oz together making the holster smooth inside and out. Should be a decent weight. Retention should still be good due to wet forming. Or is my thinking off?I know some line with suede .
