Those came out so cool! I love the dragon scales. Nice job!

I love my SK from Leather Wranglers! Paul makes a great knife. I had mine made custom, pyrographed artwork by Britt Nantz. sk-1 sk-2

That's my next step. I bout it over a year ago from OTB. Thanks Bruce!

Hey all, My Osborne Oblong Punch recently failed on me. I used it like normal and one side of the blade edge cracked and sort of folded in on itself. I haven't used this one very much, maybe 50 or so holes. Does anyone know if they carry a warranty? Seems to me these should last forever with proper care but I did nothing out of the ordinary with it. I use a rubber poundo board as a cutting surface.

Very cool Ray! The shop space you built looks amazing! I have mine setup in a corner of the garage where I share it with the wife's car and the kid's bikes. Haha! I do have windows though which is nice but I really envy all the ROOM you have. Cheers!

How to dye like this?
AndyL1 replied to Vo1lok's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use dyes. I have also used a non-traditional method for color by way of Sharpie pens. Excellent control and a ton of colors out there. Check out my Instagram feed @blackthornleather for images. -
How to dye like this?

I follow that artist on Instagram, he's from Russia and I don't know his name (I can't read the language. Haha!) ALWAYS really cool work on there. My guess is dyes expertly painted on, sealed very well with a resist, and antiqued. That's my method anyway. -

$600 is a steal! I think I could get by with the less $$ one for now but would probably grow out of it quick. Have you sent in the blades for sharpening at all? If so, is the turnaround fairly quick?

Thanks all for the insight! I'm leaning towards the more expensive one at the moment. I understand it's less expensive buying through Weaver with a wholesale account.

Hey all, I'm considering buying a Weaver EZ Strap edger. Either the one that trims all four corners at once or the far less expensive machine that does two at a time. Has anyone had experience with either and possibly recommend which one I should get? The four blade model is quite expensive compared to the two. I don't know if the extra cost is justified. Thanks for any input!

Is this still for sale?

That came out awesome! Are you going to dye/antique it or leave as is?

Excellent mod! I think I found the spring on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/16mmx65mm-Chromium-Lightest-Spring-Yellow/dp/B018RSYE08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478827802&sr=8-1&keywords=16mm+x+8mm+x+65mm+Spiral+Chromium+Alloy+Steel+Stamping+Compression+Die+Spring Thanks for sharing this. I already order the clamp.

I use my shop press to apply my logo to my items. I've been thinking hard about getting one of these: http://brandingirons.com/product-category/products-from-branding-irons-unlimited/electric-drill-press-heating-tools-for-branding-irons/ It would work great on a variety of leathers I expect.

I did one similar to this. Instead of painting in the white just leave the stripes natural and use a diluted dye for the red. Right now your colors are too bright and saturated to give the illusion of something worn out and yellowed. Plus, give your edges a more ragged look. I also made some depressions with a modeling tool so the antiquing would have places to settle in and give a bit of a mottled appearance.

Looks great Karina! I like the all-natural look. I had done the same over Christmas for a few gifts except I dyed them. I do like the veg tan bottom for the extra personalization as well. Awesome gifts! P.S. Disregard the wonky stitching. I pulled it out and restitched before I wrapped it up. Haha! -

Good eye, JLS. My bobbin tension was off, I have since pulled those threads and restitched this one. Thanks! -
A variation on the tray I made a while back. These things are fun to make and are a great, quick gift. Merry Christmas everyone!

Here you go! Just slots cut out on opposing sides. Fold up and snap. Nice Peter! I'm going to do some with a tooled veg tan "patch" sewn into the bottom. This way I can customize them a little more.
