  1. That's pretty cool! Would you happen to know where to get a punch to create the flower pattern common on toe caps?
  2. That is awesome! Love the different shapes you made. I'd like to retract my reply above! Haha!
  3. That's a great wallet pattern! Love the leather too, I need to try some of that out soon. My only critique would be to skive your edges down a bit as they look a little thick when layered up. Nice work!
  4. This tool might be worth it if you're planning on doing more. Pair this with an X-Acto knife and you'd have nice circles. http://windfiredesigns.com/Tools/CircleTool/index.html Maybe a less expensive route is cut around some big fender washers from the hardware store?
  5. Nice stitching for sure. I may suggest gluing the pieces together first so when you burnish the edges you won't have the separation I see.
  6. You'll need to make the card slot pieces shape like a "T", as in notch the sides and stack them that way... kind of hard to explain without photos but there are threads on the topic within the forum. This way your pockets are all one layer of leather. Aside from that, nice job!
  7. I feel ya! I use the "light" brown a majority of the time. I cut it 2:1 with denatured alcohol. After I antique, it ends up the perfect color for my needs.
  8. Aw man... you're really over-thinking it. I make all my bags with a rounded corner as it's easier to sew up. I just do the even simpler 2nd grade math of doubling the height and adding the width, then add an inch or so for a slight bit at the end. Attach, cut off the extra, sew. EDIT: If you really want to know the exact length you need, use a tailor's tape. This isn't rocket surgery here. ;-)
  9. Lol! Seriously man... enough with the math. It's not complicated... just make it double height+width, attach and cut off the excess.
  10. Mine is currently about 2" across. I want to have a smaller one made but I think I'd have to drop "leather" from the bottom as it would be too small to show up nicely.
  11. Update: I finally got my maul in the mail yesterday. I have to say it is very nice. Still doesn't have my engraved cap, hoping that will come later and I can attach it to the top. So after a FOUR month wait, I have a beautiful, incomplete tool to use. Wish I could have been a little more excited when opening the box but the whole experience took the wind out my sail. Beary did give me a nice little gift to make amends so that makes up for a lot. These guys do quality work for sure. The maul is really a beautiful thing and the burnishers are perfect too. Definitely can't fault on the craftsmanship, but be prepared to wait a long time.
  12. Well I've bought a burnisher from them in the past and the quality is awesome. I can't say enough about that thing. The maul I'm sure is/will be equally nice... once I get it. I have a strong feeling this isn't the "day job" so I can understand life getting in the way of production. So... I'm HOPING this is out of the ordinary. Take your chances I guess. Still haven't gotten mine or even an email letting me know it was sent out. Maybe he's holding out for his engraver to finish the cap (fingers crossed). Good news! Mine is only 8 weeks (and counting) late. Yeah, poor customer service at best.
  13. Well I finally got some feedback. It was supposed to have shipped yesterday. No email with a tracking number as of yet. Also I sent artwork for a custom engraved cap. They were having issues and never got the cap back from the engraver after several weeks (in my mind, USE A DIFFERENT #$%!!@@ ENGRAVER!) So, now the plan is I will have my maul and once the cap is (hopefully) engraved it will be sent out to me and I will attach it. I'm hoping it's not another round of frustration getting the cap to me. This whole process has been frustrating with the lack of communication and incredibly long lead time. I do wish them the best and no ill will. Hope it's just a stumbling block in their business.
  14. Came out really nice! I'd suggest spray adhesive for gluing the liner next time. I'm sure brushing on the Weldwood was a chore. Good job! Andy
  15. Hey did you ever get your maul? I'm about ready to throw in the towel and demand a refund. Last email I got was very apologetic and it would ship very soon... that was several weeks ago! I've been very nice and patient in my emails but now public flaming on this forum is starting to be in order. My ship date was supposed to be the end of July. Seriously Ed and Beary if you read this your business(?) is starting to seem quite shady.
  16. Hey all, Just finished this nice little bracer up for a customer in Luxembourg. A Pictish mermaid from an ancient stone carving found in Scotland decorates the front, three roller buckles on straps keep it on the wrist. Lined with pigskin for comfort. Main panel is 8-9oz veg, straps are 6-7. Dyed with Fiebings Pro Oil in light brown (diluted down with denatured alcohol since their dye tends to be very dark.) Measures 10cm wide and fits an 18cm wrist. My customer said he recently had wrist surgery and wanted something in leather to be supportive. Comments and critiques are welcome! Cheers, Andy
  17. I've had several made from Texas Custom Dies. I use a modified shop press as a clicker and they work great. They also make mallet dies as far as I know. http://www.texascustomdies.com/ -Andy
  18. I don't see why you couldn't do something similar to that press. I had a buddy of mine do the welding, I bet you could hit up any capable shop to do it. Or, maybe there's a workaround of some kind for bolting it up. Welding the plates would be the best option though. I went with the larger 12 ton press as the area between the rails allowed for a more comfortable work space and my cutting dies need more room as well.
  19. If you have the space I'd say a modified shop press from Harbor Freight would be the way to go. I use mine as a clicker as well as pressing in stamps. For a stamp as large as yours you'd need some surface area for even stamping. Here's mine in this thread: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=53195#entry341404 Andy
  20. Hey all, I ordered a Bear Maul from Beary over there a couple of months ago now, had okay communication when I placed the order. Going in he told me towards the end of July for a lead time which I was okay with; I don't mind waiting for awesome work! Anyway, I emailed a few times the past couple of weeks and have gotten zero feedback. Anybody know if they're doing okay and maybe just can't respond for a time? It's been two months since I last chatted with him about my order. Hoping nothing has gone south in his business and/or health or something. Calling out to Ed or Beary if they happen to see this post! Thanks, Andy
  21. I'm assuming this had a brown antiquing solution applied to it and not black. Tandy and I think Fiebings both have brown antique.
  22. Thanks Roger! Be sure to post photos of yours when it's done. I know I'd like to see it!
  23. Thanks all! Now I need to make one for myself! Everybody's got nice stuff but me. Lol!
  24. Hey all, I made this belt for Dug at a great organization called The Oasis Project. They organize hikes and adventures to raise money and awareness to help victims of human trafficking. Dug is going to be doing the Three Peaks Challenge while wearing a Utilikilt and needed a solid belt to go with it! Made from 9/10 veg tan. The wider part is 2.25" and tapers down to 1.5" straps. Dyed with Eco-Flo Timber brown, antiqued, oiled, and sealed with 50/50 water and Resolene. Buckle by www.etsy.com/shop/ironartcanada http://www.oasisprojekt.org/ Cheers, Andy
