  1. Please tell me the sledge hammer part was a joke lol. That's an awesome holster she looks great!!!! I agree on the thicker leather I'll be making a couple this next week or so for a Glock 43 and a Taurus g3. I use a hole punch and 1" wood chisel for my slots found that method before I could afford the oval punch and after a few years of practice I wont change they look just as good and i can make any size slots.
  2. You know why you cant find rednecks in Canada..... Because you cant find a decent Beer, a home cooked meal, an intelligent conversation, or a warm piece of ass in the whole country.
  3. lol they sound like the Finches we have in our yard, mean lil buggers indeed they run off every bird no matter the size and the squirrels too. I love to watch them there is a small hole in our green house the they can get in and they eat the rabbits food we keep inside during the winter. Birds are awesome to watch they are so intelligent we have tried unsuccessfully to plug that hole but they keep finding ways to get in.
  4. a lot of the time I just use my hands. Especially on small stuff, sometimes a piece of paper towel folded up, sometimes a piece of cotton rag.
  5. actually its one of the few that look good on the front.
  6. I like it too.
  7. Nope IMO. If there was it would be widely used, and very well known already the practice of sewing leather is thousands of years old.
  8. yup even beveling takes a lot of practice I wish I were that good.
  9. a swivel knife a creaser or groover whichever you prefer. a smooth beveller two sets of letter stamps a sharp knife to cut the leather one of several ways to form the stitch holes. Needles and thread to hand sew it up. or a sewing machine dye and paint and glue it looks more complicated than it is.
  10. i pushed the button before finishing lol. Details ? its way to thin to tool or stamp if that's what you mean. The natives dyed it, painted it or added designs in other ways with other materials. As far as holding up it would depend on its use, a knife sheath for example would last a life time treated right while mocs probably wouldn't.
  11. it depends on how it was tanned. Veg tanned i would think yes however i have never tried any I knew personally was veg tanned. Brain tanned yes if it hasn't been smoked to much. I have some bought years ago I have no idea the tanning method but that piece wont wet mold at all I feel its chrome tanned. We tan our deer and elk with the brains and they will harden up if not worked until dry then smoked. If you have a piece then cut off a small piece and try it.
  12. i think i can see what you are getting at, I'll give her a go.
  13. That is very cool work!!
  14. nail clippers and no burn. pull the stitch up tight and snip it close.
  15. you better get busy!! times a wastin.
  16. did you read Frodo's post ? your not getting a blue gun for 8 bucks anywhere. And really cheap if they were your kids Christmas present ten years ago or you bought them at some local yard sale plus they are more fun to shoot than blue guns.
  17. A side has one shoulder so yea its equivalent i guess the butt is thicker if I remember right the belly is loose, stretchy and thin. Most folks buy shoulders because they don't want to pay for belly leather. You can use either, the side will have some belly that is not good for strength but you can use it for linings and such. sometimes the shoulders have more fat lines. I don't think a double shoulder would build all of those and a side would be iffy too. my recommendation is to buy a side that way you can learn about the whole thing at once and how to use it. I feel you will need more than one of either so learn with the side first, the belly isn't a waste it is good practice stuff and for other things as well. But remember your sheaths , belts and holsters may need to be different thicknesses and that's the next quandary.
  18. that's gonna get stolen!
  19. What kind of holsters and sheathes and how many? with a belt? lined? western? concealed? small knives? large guns? there are many variables IMO lol I buy sides so I have my bases covered and I found out over the years that I can make other stuff too.
  20. that is top notch my friend, i love it.
  21. Finishing off the turkey today, it was 21 pounds, with a big pot of turkey and home made noodles. My favorite The wife makes noodles as my mom taught her years ago.
  22. I certainly am blessed, thank you, this is a beautiful area still relatively unknown by the masses, while millions stand in line in Yellowstone the majority of Wyoming remains virtually wilderness with very few outsiders exploring it. We have had some outside travelers however as they have created a new fad, walking the continental divide trail which runs directly through our county and town. I love to talk to them and ask about walking a good hundred mile plus trek through the high desert, it surprises them to no end and is a very dangerous part of the route. Many of them end up hitch hiking through this part lol.
  23. that is cool as he**!!!! where and how much was the drive unit?
  24. These have to be pretty caliber specific also, you have to figure in the length and diameter I'm sure a few may interchange like 270s and 30 06, 7mm 06.
  25. yea I've seen that on older bullet loops and some of my knives fitted with brass. Must be the tannins or maybe the pickling salts.
