  1. your keeping it small/short to one step at a time is an awesome idea. I have watched a video of over two hours before but not on leather work lol, rebuilding a 4l60 e tranny, the guy was good!!!! both in his video work , precise and to the point, and his tranny work you could tell he knew his shit and could do it blindfolded.
  2. You did some beautiful work and rethinking of design ideas!!! It wouldn't be hard to change those few pieces to about any critter, a nice puppy or kitty, turtle maybe. lengthen it for a back pack, the sky is the limit! Designing your own patterns is hard. I'm the last to make cookie cutter projects and would rather take a beating than punch out multiple copies of someone else's patterns. it just isn't inspiring IMO in fact I've never done it lol. That being said for those who don't have the knowledge or skill set of making patterns, redesigning a good workable pattern is the logical step it has many more personal benefits it teaches you first off how to make patterns , think outside the box and use your own grey matter to solve problems, what is even more exciting is when you have learned it you don't have to google it or buy it from someone else. Above all there is nothing wrong with pushing your skill level that's what life is about.
  3. very nice!!!! that wasn't a shady deal was it?
  4. buy a good artists quality of white acrylic paint. The better the quality the more pigment making less layers on your work to screw up.
  5. Your gonna make me buy a brisket before this is over lol. They are about 50 bucks here for a whole one. Last night was roast beef I had a ten pound bone in roast in the freezer from the tee bone section, Trimmed out the meat and tied it up, slow roasted, poked some holes in it and stuck in some garlic cloves salt and pepper. dang it was fork tender. We will be having roast beef sandwiches tonight, home made bread and the works lol. the tee bones will be frozen for later stew.
  6. great looking holster I love that color especially! i kind of like the 1911 pattern too.
  7. great repurposing idea indeed well worth the effort too, anything that makes life easier imo.
  8. heck yea go for it. I buy d2 steel rod from grainger for my small tools. i like it because you can use a mapp gas torch to harden it with no need firing up the big forge, and while your at it you can make quite a few other leather tools from it as well.
  9. oh yea I floured and fried a couple of chickens last night over the open fire. man i love cast iron. The wife made potato salad to go with it used those pickled jalapenos in it a darn it was good with that little bit of spice. I wish we had a little moisture its dryer than a popcorn fart here lol and hot.
  10. A good start! here's my two cents. As an old guy you were hard to hear in the beginning, speak up a bit. A hearing impaired plus is you didn't talk and play music together at the same time. I noticed you referenced using a ball point pen in tracing without talking about backing the tracing paper your using, a beginner would print something off on copy paper then sooner or later rip through it and ruin his leather with ink marks. that's the only thing i saw that i would change. I do think the first step is deciding what you are trying to accomplish. education or advertising if education then who? beginners or more learned folks. If you are selling yourself then nice music and some of your awesome tooling, sewing all the cool stuff. with maybe some wording that describes what exactly you do differently. Leave out the tape section put in some more hand tooling work that pushes your skills. if educational then you have a lot more thinking to do comparatively. Making a purse Imo should start with pattern and leather selection with maybe some discussion on leather types and such whys and whatfors. then on to cutting out again why you cut your pieces the size you do, where you cut them from etc. tools you use for each sequence. Then on to your casing and tracing etc. again whys and how's, tool list, what a craft aid is, different methods. Any way i'm sure your getting the drift of my comment each segment should have a common denominator of how you do each step so as folks watch they get used to your methods, for example a quick tool list at the beginning, a quick rundown of what its about and then just right into the work. A guy can literally spend hours just perusing the youtubes on leather work let alone watching them i think a series would work well for keeping your audience. All the comments on this thread are great i hope i have added some food for thought also. i sincerely wish you all the Good luck !!!!! My last thought if you decide on educational videos for beginers find a friend who doesn't know s*#t about leather work and let him make something using only your videos. it will become apparent really fast what you need to work on.
  11. i usually use my round knife in open air for cutting the larger pieces, i found leather cuts much easier if its not laying flat on something. i use an old kitchen cutting board and a different knife for anything laying on the table
  12. you nailed it! one of the best i have ever seen for sure.
  13. that's really cool tell us how its sealed, leather weight ,forming please. Exceptional work!!
  14. revolvers work! both patterns are very good My 44 needs one or two of those lol.
  15. good luck friend!!! let us know how it turns out.
  16. very cool block dying would look good too.
  17. its more like a hip bag worn in front, multiple layers of pockets for your weapons with a thin belt, the round part on lower right is for the knife or sword.
  18. google ottoman weapons belt you can get a load of pictures of them.
  19. if you can find the country it is from and about the century it was made then i'm sure there are illustrations somewhere. Pretty easy to make a pattern then i do it all the time for my holsters. looks like some basic conchoes and some lacing , a little tooling pattern on about 4 oz or so.
  20. You rock man anyone that makes their own patterns plus pull them of as nice as you did is a true leather craftsman. IMO
  21. I like it!! i made mine from stainless all thread but its a smaller version. Making the tools is half the fun.
  22. must be something to do with our super secret and noticeably unique moniker. lol. i have no doubt its being worked on.
  23. I'm thinking maybe just antique wiped off real quick on the high spots.
