  1. and you don't need it for the out side either just cut rectangles form a piece of strap, punch and cut your tang holes then glue, press and shape with a sander.
  2. you dont need a big punch if if your tang is rectangle punch two holes, one at each end the same width as your tang then cut them out creating a slot the correct size. if you watched forged in fire then forget everything you saw. don't use epoxy to glue them together use contact cement to do the laminations. you can use epoxy in the slot when you glue it up but not for each piece of leather. after your contact cement dries then wet your leather and compress it and let it dry. i used my vice and did mine in sections. make your slot as close as possible to the correct size or you will run the risk of cutting or sanding through. last of all be sure to post a picture of your awesome knife.
  3. lol ! Great looking holster my friend.
  4. lol i will tell you why we still use Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. 12 above zero sounds al lot better than 11 below zero. bbq sounds awesome !! We are having breakfast for supper tonight, Steaks, eggs and hash brown potatoes.
  5. you will be lucky if you can find one piece of 20 oz of any type let alone enough to make you a millionaire on your super secret patent. Animal hide is a natural product it only comes in certain thicknesses depending on the type of animal. But i wish you all the luck in the world
  6. very nice !! no wonder your fingers hurt thats a lot of sewing for any shape.
  7. 10 oz or the thickest you can get. I made one about a month ago.
  8. Mother nature is not so nice here lol we are on our third day of winter storm with two more days to go, the roads were closed yesterday and when the wind comes up probably again today. 14*f for the high today with six inches of snow so far lol. Folks get plumb crazy on Christmas gifts they don't realize custom hand made stuff isn't setting in a bin somewhere waiting for them to figure out what day it is lol. But it makes for a nice income for a guy if he has the time. Hope you and your folks are doing well too my friend and good luck on your market!!
  9. use your favorite shoe care products on your shoes. no need to overthink this.
  10. some really cool vintage patterns in some of these books, its amazing how the art has changed over the years. i love the 30s and 40s art deco style examples in some of these books.

  15. i would look for leather craftspeople in your area that could cut and dye it for you. you will also have to find rivets to replace the brass thingy.
  16. very cool idea!!!!!!
  17. Wow what a wonderful firearm and holster!!! First question are you going to use it or fix it just for show? Some choices, keep it a collectable which means don't mess with it or you will ruin any collectors value. Or repair to use it. That being said you can also copy the pattern without damaging it and build a complete new one or you can repair the flap and enjoy it as is. Here's is the deal with collectability, its damaged so its not pristine so its not as "collectable" as one that is pristine but it is still over 100 yrs old. What will you lose by repairing it compared to building a new one and saving this one. If you do repair it so you can carry it also have the holster loop replaced as it is very important to have good leather there and your holster is over 100 years old so there may be some issues such as dry rot. it could be that rot will make your leather tear at the old stitch line when you try to re-sew it there, something to think about. Personally i would build, or have one made, a whole new copy and leave that old leather just like it is or you are going to end up with a modified holster that is still over 100 years old so no collectors value and not good leather either.
  18. yup they allowed this type of shit!
  19. i love the history of watches and the expertise it used to take to make them, like sewing machines they were one of the great drivers of the machine age for sure!! They remain a wonderment for me as their tiny little mechanisms seem almost magic. I haven't wore or owned a working one for years lol, since i retired. We still have my dads service watch, 7 jewels i think and radioactive glo in the dark hands and all, it is only right twice a day however.
  20. i do the same then i cut out my final pattern from heavy card stock to reuse and save. i also scan it and save on the computer to reprint if needed.
  21. it is either a m1909 or an m1917 depending on the caliber. either way its a colt model that has had its barrel shortened. It started as an earlier model,m1909 in 45lc, that was modified to take the 45 acp cartridge that was in use for the model 1911. There were not enough Remington 1911s so they also used these. They didn't replace anything they filled a manufacturing void out of necessity. Very cool revolver indeed. btw the Remington 1911 was also made by companies such as rand typewriter co, and even Singer sewing machine co. during the push for armament. They didn't call these trench guns, that name was given to 12 gauge shotguns shortened and fitted with bayonets. Remington model 10s or Winchester model 1897s. which btw the Germans hated and even tried to get them banned from use.
  22. its at the bottom right side, i couldn't find it either for a while.
  23. i have looked at this for hours it seems. I'm awestruck! your tooling is fantastic.
